"Dimitri, this mission is doomed to fail. I'm retreating."
Dane's expression darkened as soon as he heard Romnick's jagged announcement. Doomed to fail? For his trusted henchman to say something like that, something must have gone horribly wrong.
But what was it? What did Dane miss before planning this attack?
Dane and Dragon had been partners for years now. He knew how the latter operated and how cunning Dragon could be. However, because Dane studied Dragon so well throughout the years, he was confident he had considered whatever card his former partner had on his sleeve.
Silence dominated the line momentarily before Romnick's jagged voice was heard again.
"That guy… is he working for Dragon now? I don't think so. He almost killed the both of us."
Deep lines appeared between Dane as he subconsciously glanced to his right. It seemed Romnick was talking to himself and by the sound of it, he was running and in pain.
