Chapter 9 - The Strangest Thing About The Evening Journal.

"I want to know if you will be willing to speak with me for a few minutes. I have something...…" Beulah gave him an uncomfortable look, picked up her bag and ran back to the hostel without hearing Moore out. "I…..I….. I… " he wished she would just stay with him for one second and listen to what he had to say. He watched her run and the bounce her body gave still made him manage a laugh. "Found ya..." Sola's distant cousin who has a crush on Moore and has known him for many years yet never got her feelings out or had any hope of it being reciprocated startled him. "What the ..., oh, it's you. How have you been? I guess you have been busy with school work. I have not been seeing you around much lately. Why is that?" Moore asked Sharon. "I have been around certain people that I do not intend to let anyone know about them yet" Sharon answered smiling. "Why not? Aren't they your friends? Like good friends? Cause you hang a lot with them right? I see you around them, and I might have taken note more than you think. So, why not?" Moore's defensive mode made it obvious to Sharon that he genuinely cared for her but not as how she wants him to. "Nevermind. I am meeting with the student president of our faculty, I will be getting my blocks' exam results, would you want to accompany me?" Sharon hoped for a Yes and finally got it. "Let's get going, I hope you do better, better than anyone else in your department. " Moore genuinely wished her but she could not take it anymore, she feared he might be disappointed in her if he figured out that she didn't meet his hopes and wishes for her. "What if I do not match your expectations? What if I turn out to be one of the worst scorers?" Sharon asked. "Well….. you will do better next time" Moore wrapped his hands around her shoulder to console her. "At least, there will not be a board display like ours in the computer science department, so brace up". Sharon forced a smile, met with the student president who gave out a brown envelope to each block reps with the numbers of the department's students in her block. "Thanks, see you next week" Sharon held on to Moore with her sweaty palms. He could feel from holding her that she is really struggling to breathe and she is very nervous. He stopped her, brought out an handkerchief from his pocket , took her sweaty palms and wiped it carefully and told her, "it doesn't matter. Whatever you are, whatever you choose to be, what your score is, you can do better, none of these matters. Stay calm, Okay?" Sharon stared into his eyes and wasted no time to give him a kiss on the lips in front of all the students around the school hall. Moore wanted to push her away immediately but because he feared she will be embarrassed, he carefully let go of her but found his roommates. Beulah and few people who knows him made him cringeworthy but Sharon held his hand tight and smiled with her roommates. "Oh,hi Sharon. This was why you would not go find Beulah with me? Such a sly" Blue hit Sharon's head, gave her a wink while she held Beulah's hand and walked past them into the school hall for the Evening Journal. "Hey" Moore let his hand loose from Sharon and tried speaking with Sola but Sola shunned him instead.. "Do not mind him, he is only being dramatic" his other roommates consoled him. Moore wished he could scream, he wondered how everything flipped in just few minutes and he didn't realize it. He wanted to dwell on the fact that he might truly regret escorting Sharon to the school hall but he also truly cared for her but not ever in the way she has always wanted him to.

"She has not called me for days now. I told her to call me two days ago. I have called countlessly, texted her but she would not return my calls. What do I do, Femi? I truly love her. I had to just make ends meet which is why I worked to get a new phone after my first was stolen. She has not even given me the chance to explain." Aramide complained to his cousin. "I am not understanding all of these. Just give her time. If she truly loves you, she will call you soon enough and if not, we could go see her at school if we can" Femi convinced him in minutes. "Wow, my guy. I never thought of that. Thanks so much" Ara hugged Femi so tight that he could not breathe for a while but he bursted into laughter afterwards because he understands how Ara is so much in love with Beulah. "Sorry, I am so sorry. What would you like to eat and drink? I would make it right now. Just name it, anything. I will let you stay back for longer than you planned, you can not be displeased" Ara ran to the kitchen immediately without getting any response from the bewildered Femi. "I hope I get to love someone like this someday" Femi shouted and did not realize Aramide's father is back and can hear everything that was being said. "Who is in love? With who? How and Why?" Mr Jay asked Femi who regrets shouting at that moment. "Why are you not saying anything, Femi?" Mr Jay smiled waiting for a response but Femi would not say a thing. "Alright then, do I get a greeting?" Mr Jay tried to ease the tension. "Good evening, sir. I am really sorry about that" Femi said. "No worries, you are probably only flustered at how I came at you, right?" Mr Jay asked. Ara ran out of the kitchen, "Right, Dad. I....I am …erm... the one in love." Ara stuttered.
