CHAPTER 52

GREG STOPPED PEOPLE from approaching the body of Ben Morant lying motionless on the floor in front of him.

— Greg, what did you do? — Noah Hughes asked — Why?

Greg opened his arms showing that there would be no resistance on his part, he knew it had to be done.

— I did what had to be done, Prime Minister, it was him or the twelve up there, including your brother, now that we saved twelve innocent people in exchange for one, we have to go in search of the cause of all this ASAP.

Noah Hughes approached him, startled, but nodded with the detective.

— I don't know what kind of weight you will carry on your back, Mr. Evans, is something unimaginable for normal people like us.

Greg gave a smile pitying the Prime Minister's attitude, he knew better than anyone that being a police officer was not a job for everyone, you had to be cold— blooded and sometimes not even have a heart.

— From the first day I joined the police I had to understand that sometimes to save one life, we have to sacrifice another, there is no easy path in our career, sir, I just ask you to trust us, always trust your best men who everything will turn out well, you know better than anyone that there is no glory without sacrifices.

— I believe, Mr. Evans, you can be sure that I trust and put all my hopes in my men.

The cops were going to arrest Greg, but Noah initially reached out to stop them, that was too difficult a decision to make right now, it could cause diplomatic stress with the last country he wanted to confront.

— Are you sure you can arrest this maniac, Mr. Evans?

— You have to trust that this case is in the hands of the best people in the world, Prime Minister...

Greg looked at Ben Morant lying down and saw Igor Zumerick checking the carotid artery, making a negative sign with his head, after which he said:

— All is not what it seems, sir, just trust me.

— I trust...

Noah Hughes nodded and motioned for his men to arrest Gregory Evans.
