I died.
It happened suddenly and unexpectedly, just as I was about to complete my mission. One moment, I was crouched on a rooftop, aiming my crossbow at the target below. The next, I felt a sharp pain in my chest, and everything went black.
I woke up in a strange place, surrounded by darkness. At first, I thought I was in some kind of underground cellar, but as my eyes adjusted, I realized that I was floating in space. Stars twinkled in the distance, and a cold wind blew through my hair.
"What the hell is going on?" I muttered to myself.
Just then, a voice spoke to me, echoing through the void.
"Welcome, traveler," the voice said. "You have been chosen to embark on a new journey."
I tried to locate the source of the voice, but it seemed to be coming from all around me.
"Who are you?" I asked, feeling a sense of unease.
"I am the Keeper of the Gate," the voice replied. "You have been given a new chance at life, in a world different from your own. Will you accept this opportunity?"
I hesitated. I didn't know what the Keeper was talking about, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I had already died.
"What do I have to do?" I asked finally.
"Simply accept," the Keeper said. "I will guide you to your new life."
Without any other options, I nodded my head.
"Very well," the Keeper said. "Your journey begins now."
Suddenly, a bright light enveloped me, and I felt my body disintegrating into millions of particles. It was a strange sensation, like being torn apart and put back together again at the same time.
For a moment, I thought I was going to disappear completely.
But then, I opened my eyes to a new world.
I was lying in a grassy field, surrounded by trees and mountains. The sun was shining overhead, and I could hear the sound of a nearby river. I sat up, feeling disoriented and confused.
"What the hell just happened?" I said to myself.
It was only then that I realized that I had been reincarnated in a new body. I looked down at my hands, which were younger and stronger than before. My hair was a different color, and my eyes felt sharper.
But most importantly, I felt a new power coursing through my veins. It was the power of an assassin, honed over years of training and experience.
I smiled to myself. Maybe this wasn't such a bad thing after all.
"Time to start a new life," I said aloud, and stood up to explore my new surroundings.
