Chapter 104 - Chapter 104: Preparation For War I

When Melissa asked this question, Fernanda instinctively turned to look at Sloane who, sighed

"Ah. I really don't want to explain" Sloane mumbled "Do you remember what happened to you?" she asked but Melissa only stared at her

"I have no reason to answer you" Melissa said "But you have every reason to answer me"

"You have the power to rewrite fates, don't you?" Sloane asked as she stretched out her hand "I'm Sloane Michelle and my father's name is Reese while my mother's name is Hailey"

"That's highly impossible" Melissa said

"If you don't believe me, you can check for yourself. From my mother's memories, your ability doesn't work on the spirit seed bearers, and the demon seed bearers. Plus, only the demon generals knew the name of the imperial daughter and the seeds" Sloane said "I suggest you do whatever you want, quickly. Time is of the essence and we're currently in war"

"What?" Melissa let out. She just couldn't believe it but when she stared at Sloane's stretched out hand, her curiosity got the better of her and she took Sloane's hand. Before she could even try to check, it felt like all the nerves in her body were freezing and she flinched while moving her hand away

"Did something happen?" Fernanda asked

"You've really grown, Princess" Melissa said while staring at her hand "I could touch your father, but couldn't rewrite his fate. However, with you, I can't even touch. I wonder if Nathan is just like that"

"Nathan is far more troublesome, when compared to me" Sloane said

"I don't think he'll even let you near him" Fernanda said while dropping the glass of water on the bedside table "Even Kathy who delivered him, is very careful of all her actions"

"So, do you remember what happened to you?" Sloane asked as she dropped her hand beside her

"The whole settlement suddenly went up in flames. Those closest to me had their fates rewritten before we went into battle. Then, we found out that one of our own had betrayed us" Melissa said "While we were handling that matter, I was attacked from behind and got separated from the others. Barbados then used that chance and grabbed me by the neck....that was the last I remember before waking up here"

"That was fourteen years ago" Sloane said "A lot of things happened while you were out of it. And now, we are currently in the South preparing for a counterattack"

"Princess, that's impossible" Melissa said "The North has more numbers than the other three settlements. Even if you try, the numbers are against us"

"I've already worked up a plan in place for that" Sloane said "I'm a very busy person, so Fern and I will be taking our leave for now. We'll see you another time. Please get some rest" she said before leaving with Fernanda

"I completely forgot to ask her about Xavier" Melissa said "He probably slept with Kathy for the Princess' ritual. Even though he's my mate, I can't say anything when it's something that was done to help the Princess" she sighed before laying back down "In the morning, I'll take a few steps outside" she shut her eyes

Sloane and Fernand continued on to the next rooms with Sloane using her magic to burn any impurities among each demons' blood. The demons which were once notably weak, began to open their eyes while regaining their body colour. Then she got their names and had them registered.

Although using so many spells at once, Sloane was not visibly tired as she exited the last room.

"The inside of this hospital is bigger than the outside" Sloane said while stretching her arms

"Thanks for the help" Fernanda said

"No problem. I've gotten the data I needed from them" Sloane said "I'll be on my way" she snapped her fingers and was instantly teleported

"How convenient" Fernanda sighed before heading back to the open area of the hospital

Study room

Sloane appeared on her seat with an exhausted expression on her face while Nathan, Priya and Timothy stared at her.

"You used too much magic again" Nathan scolded

"Is it that obvious?" Sloane asked and the other three nodded. "If that's all, you may leave" she said

"Is something happening tomorrow?" Priya asked

"Why do you ask?" Sloane asked

"I feel like you're about to make a big change to the settlement" Priya replied

"Well, naturally. I have to commence my plans" Sloane said "Other than that, I need you to do something else" she said and Priya raised a brow "The stuff your mother gave you, I need you to start deciphering the written items, tonight"

"Did something happen?" Timothy asked

"Among the things I got from the Connor residence, there was a letter addressed to me from Kenzie's mother. In that letter, Priya's name was clearly stated as the new key bearer, of a mechanism which could move the entirety of Greenwood Springs, or simply hide the whole town from the outside world" Sloane said as she stared at Priya "The key was said to have been passed down to you by the last mage in your family. In other words, your mother, Ria Rodik"

"So, you want me to decipher my mother's books?" Priya asked and Sloane nodded "Judging by the serious and slightly annoyed look on your face, you've been forced to use a different plan instead of Plan A, again. You really hate it when your plans tend to change"

"At least it isn't as bad as yesterday where I was forced to use Snowfall" Sloane said before swiveling her chair and staring out the window "This was a spell I wanted to avoid using at all costs"

"And the new plan?" Nathan asked

"I'll explain it tomorrow" Sloane said "All you need to know is, it involves Greenwood Springs and the humans living within"

"I can already guess what the plan is from just that" Nathan sighed

"Both of you are...surprisingly nuts" Priya said as she stood up "However, an order is an order, so I'll get to it immediately" she turned around and left with Timothy

As soon as they shut the door behind them, Nathan smirked, "I'm surprised she had the guts to call me nuts" he said

"I'm not. She's going to be my advisor in the future" Sloane said "She needs the guts if she wants to survive as the only human among demons. People like you and the former elders shouldn't scare her" she smiled before swiveling back to look at him "Because she's one of my people"

"Let's get back to work. I'll help you do the location finding on the map" Nathan said and Sloane reached into the chest. She took out a journal and gave it to him before pointing at the centre table, and shutting her eyes. He stared at the centre table and noticed the two maps were still sitting there. "How could you carelessly leave something so important to be sitting around like that?" he asked in shock

"There's been a lot of things on my mind" Sloane said "My decisions now affect the entire settlement. They're no longer just my own. One mistake can mean death for everyone" she said while he silently stared at her

"Since you're tired, get some rest" Nathan said as he stood up and headed to the centre table. Sloane's eyes shot open and she stared at him as he walked away, until he was sitting on the sofa

"Y-you really shouldn't" Sloane said as she sat up "I couldn't possibly leave every-"

"I told you once before your Majesty, 'my duty is to lay down my pride to protect and assist you, to the best of my abilities'. It is the duty of the tribe elders when the demon generals are unavailable" Nathan said "Before you are friend, you are still my Queen and deserve the said respect of one" he smiled

The way he said it while having such a look on his face, was enough to make Sloane, blush from embarrassment.

"I get it! I get it, already!! Can you stop that?" She asked hysterically

"As you wish" Nathan said and with his expression going back to being deadpan, he said, "Now, get some rest and let me handle this"

"S-sure" she said as she rested her head on her desk before shutting her eyes 'One day, I really hope I can understand what goes on in Nathan's head' she thought before succumbing to sleep

Hearing her gentle snores, a light smile appeared on Nathan's face, but that also disappeared instantly as he meticulously flipped through each page of the journal and marked the names of certain places, down on the map.
