Chapter 25 - Duel?

"Today you will be learning advanced mathematics alongside mana manipulation before going to weapon arts classes. Please produce your textbooks on equations using algebra. Here Noir since you are new here is a textbook"

The equations were rudimentary with the hardest being moving a letter in a fraction. Since I had basically finished all my classes and tests were coming up this was pretty easy and I was able to move through it like butter. Putting down my pen I flipped through the pages of the textbook. I had finished a quarter of the textbook in the allotted time of the lesson and most students had barely finished a page.

"Noir why have you gone ahead of the page? We're still on page one."

"I finished page one along with the other pages. If you don't believe me look at my book."

Looking down at my book and going through the questions he took his time working then out before he looked back at me.

"Well done Noir. They are correct. May I ask you who had taught you. This is advanced mathematics and even as a teacher I struggle with some of these equations?"

"My old teacher taught a class of promising students the advanced versions of common subjects before he left."

"Surely he is cheating!"

The same kid that told me to stay away from that girl seemed to have an issue with me being skilled. What a wonderful situation to be in, I could put myself in the hierarchy if he dueled me.

"Sir Branson Noir filled the textbook in himself I know since I marked his book with my mana signature. While I was leery of his ways it was indeed his merit that he answered the questions."

"I...I ah I'm sorry I allowed my jealousy to cloud my judgement please forgive me"

"Accepted now class continue to fill out the page while there is time left."

Yes sir!

I could still feel the glare of the kid, hoo boy if looks could kill.

The same thing happened with Language classes and before I knew it, It was time for weapons class. I decided to wear some loose fitting clothes that I had stored from my dungeon adventures. I didn't always use the armour given to me as it would make me dull to the sense of life and death situations, By using loose unarmoured clothes if I got hit it would be bad news allowing me to hone my body and reflexes so that they aligned with my body.

Walking into the stadium, it was decently sized with enough room for our class to spread out widely.

"Class you are allowed to use your personal weapons if they are blunt otherwise use the wooden equipment that is offered to you!"

When I was getting dressed I took out my cane so I already had it on hand. The metal was slightly scraped but with a bit of buffing it would come right out, unfortunately I had little time.

Noir you will be facing me first so that I can get a hint on your strength and combat style, do not worry about hurting me so go all out.

Giving a nod I rushed towards him using my sporadic movements to create an opening. I wouldn't allow what happened last time to happen again. Grabbing the cane with both hands I put more force into the piercing move to which a loud crack was heard throughout the arena. The barrier that I had to use multiple hits to break before was broken in one hit. I wasn't stronger than before but I knew the weakness and integrated it into my attack.

Sliding back from the recoil I grabbed the midsection of the cane again and created a scythe made out of aura. Its form grew out of the handle and took the form of the raven creating a blade from its wings that came together. While smaller than a normal scythe and closer to a sickle I could still use the knowledge that I had gathered in Scythemanship on it.

Taking a stance I let out a slight bloodlust that seemed to shock the teacher however he reacted efficiently by using his magic to coat his body hardening his body and increasing his agility.

Feeling the thirst that my scythe was taking on my aura I pushed in hoping to end this battle quickly. Pushing my body to go faster I used all I had pushing myself onto equal ground. each hit was met by a parry or block while each of our movements were synchronised like a dance. pushing myself further my bones ached as I tried to land a hit against a for who was of higher rank.

Delivering a kick I used his sword as a step to jump and slash using the curve of the blade to go under his sword. I had drawn a line of blood as a gash appeared in his chest. Seemingly upset at my attack our teacher lifted his limit to the next rank and I was pushed back onto the defensive. Each hit caused a bone to crack or break as exhaustion took over my body.

Using the only thing that was left I created magic circles of multiple elements to find which one was his weakness before creating mounds of dirt and rock. Our battleground became a cluster of broken flooring and piles of earth as we battled. Finally I started to feel the adrenaline of the battle that I had with Sephardim Lancaster.

My body was succumbing to its wounds while I hadn't managed to scratch him since, I needed to use my last move and hope it would put us at a time.

Gathering aura into my blade I ran my remaining mana into the runes that I had carved into the cane. They began to glow a deep purple as the ravens eyes began to glow the same hue. Immediately the effects of gravity on my body lessened slightly and each blow sent a shock of mana out of the blade.

Smashing the teacher with the mana bursts I managed to get him to his knees before I ran out of mana and aura. We were both physically exhausted and barely able to move but we pushed for the final blow, However the final blow never came as my weapon was disarmed.

Looking at him he stood up without issue and shrugged off all the dirt from his clothes. Heh I forgot he was a high rank.

"Well done student Noir, I see you have been in many life threatening battles. You are definitely close to the top of the class. Here, have this Stamina potion, I can't do so much for your wounds but this will put you back to fighting shape. "

Grabbing the vial of purple liquid I chugged it down already feeling much better, the aching in my body was slowly disappearing.

"Would anyone like a duel with Noir?"

The room was pin drop silent. Each student just stared at us before trying to not draw attention as they went back to their training. The only people who kept their gaze were the girl with pink hair and the kid.

"Fine since no one wants to duel you, you can do what you want whether it's training or weapon arts."

Walking away our homeroom teacher walked into an office leaving us to our own tendencies.
