After a couple minutes past and the cooked side was checked constantly, Becca was ready to flip her first pancake. She did it too quickly and ended up splattering a lot of the wet batter and the pancake was folding in on itself.
Becca started to panic, but I let her know, "don't worry Becca, as long as you unfold it and make sure all the uncooked batter is touching the skillet, it will still cook all the way. You just don't want to leave any wet parts."
Becca tried her best and eventually the first pancake was cooked. It looked like a squished mess, but I could tell that it was still cooked properly.
Becca turned around to look at me, "Nick, can you do one pancake, so I can see how you are supposed to flip it? It is hard for me to picture it in my head, since I have never seen it before."
"I have an even better idea."
I walked directly behind Becca and put my hands on top of her hands. I rested my chin on her shoulder and explained, "I'll guide your hands, so you can feel how it should be done."
The tips of Becca's ears were slightly red. "Ok, I'll carve this feeling into my brain", she whispered shyly.
I used her hands to pour the right amount of batter onto the skillet and then a minute later I put the spatula in her hand and guided her hand to slip the pancake without making any mess.
A couple minutes later, the second pancake was done and put on the plate with the other pancake. The difference between them was obvious, but they would all taste the same once you ate them.
I gave Becca a quick hug from behind before moving away from her. "Alright, Becca you should be able to flip the pancakes now."
Becca pouted little a spoiled girl and muttered lightly, "even if I know how to flip the pancakes now, you don't have to move away from me."
"I can't stick to you 24/7, people will start thinking I'm really a playboy like the original Nicolas haha"
"You just feel so warm and comfortable. It's really addictive…"
Becca was talking boldly, but her ears were still red. "We will have plenty time for that later, but we need to make these pancakes fast before the rest of your family wakes up!"
Becca's slapped her hand on the table. "I totally forgot about them!"
Becca quickly started cooking the pancakes and soon there were a stack of 10 finished pancakes. She had gotten the hang of it right after I showed her, so they all looked good.
Since she already had the hang of it, I decided to show her something fun. "Hey Becca, can you let me cook a few pancakes?"
Becca turned around to looked at me. "Sure, I don't mind."
She stepped away from the stove, so I could work. "I wanted to show you a few special designs you can make with pancakes once you get the hang of it."
I pour the pancake batter into the shape of an R, then I let it cook for 30 seconds before pour some more batter until it was a circle the same size as the rest of the pancakes.
Becca was staring from the side with interested eyes. Once I flipped the pancake, she saw that the cooked side had the R design cooked in because it was darker than the rest of the pancake.
"I make an R for you Rebecca. This one can be yours."
Becca was surprised. "Wow! I would never have thought to try something like that, but it came out so good! You could really make any shape you want as long as you can control the batter enough."
I nodded my head. "Yeah, I've never gotten good with complex designs, but letter are pretty easy. Here is other way you can change the standard design.
This time, I directly poured the batter into the shape of a heart and flipped it over after a couple of minutes. After it was done, the pancake itself with shaped like a heart instead of a circle.
Becca smiled happily. "That looks nice too. You can make it a ton of different shapes, if you pour it correctly."
"Yeah, this heart shaped pancake can be yours as well."
Becca frowned this time for a second and sighed jokingly. "I know you must have made heart shaped pancakes for your ex-girlfriend before, but I'll gratefully accept that you will only make heart shaped pancakes for me from now on."
I scratched my cheek after being reminded of the past. "Of course they will be exclusive to you from now on. You don't have to worry about that."
I was worried that Becca would be sad, but she really didn't seem to care much. It looked like she had truly accepted my past experiences and would not let it bother her anymore. I was glad she was so mature.
Quiet enough so I couldn't hear, Becca muttered. "That b*tch isn't even in our world, so I won't let it get to me. Honestly, I'm lucky she was stupid enough to let go of such an amazing man."
As the heart-shaped pancake was finished cooking, Helen walked into the kitchen. She called out to us, "I heard from the chef that you two were here making pancakes. If you aren't busy Nick, I can teach you the recipe to make the lemonade that Becca likes?"
I gave Helen a thumbs up. "That's perfect! Becca, you can finish up the rest of the pancakes while I make the lemonade and then we can head out for breakfast."
Becca nodded her head. "Sounds good to me."
Helen brought over all the ingredients and a big jug to put the lemonade in. "The special trick for the type of lemonade Becca likes is that we use more lemons then usual because she prefers it sour."
Laying on the table were 12 medium sized lemons. "We just need to squeeze these with our hands to get all the juice and mix it with the right amount of sugar and water. I've tried a few variations over the years like adding mint or strawberries, but Becca always liked this simple recipe best."
I was surprised by the lack of a lemon juicer. "You have to squeeze the lemons with only your hands? There is no kitchen utensil that can squeeze it easier?"
Helen laughed at my confused look. "A device just for squeezing lemons haha? I have never seen one before. You just need to get your hands dirty. Come on, it won't take that long and it will make your wife very happy to know you squeezed them yourself."
I thought about introducing a lemon juicer to Becca's Father, but what Helen said made sense. A specialized tool like that is not something people in a medieval world would have much demand for. It was only in my world because our technology and wealth advanced to a level that we tried to maximize convenience wherever possible.
Soon, the lemonade and pancakes were ready, so we were ready to head to the dinning room.
"Thanks for the help Helen."
