Chapter 87 - Meeting Rebecca’s Brother (Part 1)

Becca's eyes were sparkling as she said, "I'm excited to try syrup with pancakes and other foods. That way the sweet syrup can compliment and enhance a food we didn't think much of before. Nick, what kind of food do you think goes good with syrup?"

"Hmm, mostly breakfast foods like pancakes and french toast. I know they also make maple bacon somehow to make it have a slightly sweet taste. It can also be drizzled on top of deserts or pastries. Honestly, it has a pretty niche amount of uses, but I just like it so much because pancakes are my favorite haha. We can try it on a lot of things to experiment what we personally like the best."

"Ok, we can test some combinations. I personally don't like sweets too much, so hopefully I can find a combination where a savory food just gets a touch of sweeetness like the maple bacon you were talking about."

"Now that I think about it, they also had this syrupy coating they put on popcorn to make sweet kettle corn. Maybe you will like that. But I'm not sure if that is really syrup or some kind of sugar coating."

Helen was in the background with eye's full of wonder. "Wow, there are so many unique foods in foreign Kingdoms…I have never been outside of this county my entire life. At least I get to hear about it from you guys."

I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. Luckily, Helen did not suspect that I knew things from another world, but I felt a little bad for making her think she was missing out on exploring the world because of the recipes I know. "Don't worry, Helen. If you ever have some time off, you are always welcome to come visit us at our manor. That way you can say that you have left the county to travel before."

Helen's eyes lit up. "Really?!"

I smiled and patted Becca's back. "Of course, now that Becca is my wife, you two are no longer master and servant. Instead, you are friends. And I would love my wife's friend to visit from time to time."

Becca reached out and grabbed Helen's hand. "Nick is right. Helen, you are like a sister to me. Thank you for being there for me on my loneliest days. You can write me a letter whenever you want to come and take a trip."

If this was any other noble, I would be shocked at what I was seeing. A noble saying their former servant was like a sister to them was absolutely unheard of in this Kingdom. However, it didn't surprise me one bit. I knew how kind hearted of a person Becca was. She looked at everyone for who they were instead of their title or rank. She never looked down on commoners and treated them as equals.

I got really lucky when I transmigrated. I don't think I would be able to truly open my heart to my wife if she was someone who thought commoners were lesser than her and treated them with no care or respect. She really is one in a million, I need to keep showing her my appreciation!

Helen's eyes were starting to water after hearing our words. "Thank you, both. I don't deserve your friendship. I don't think my words mean much, but I just want to say that after seeing you two interact so in sync, I want to openly give your relationship my blessing. I hope you both continue to have a long and happy married life."

We both responded at the same time, "thanks so much, Helen!"

Afterwards, Becca and I headed back to our room to get ready for our dinner with her whole family. Our clothes from our luggage was now in the room, so we changed into the best evening wear we brought.

I wore a stylish black coat to match my dark black hair. In my left coat pocket, I had a navy blue handkerchief. The handkerchief was to match my outfit with Becca's outfit.

She wore a beautiful navy blue dress. The dress had long sleeves and the bottom was big and poofy. It was a classic fairy tale style dress. In my opinion, it was a little outdated, so I was excited for the time Becca could try out the dresses I prepared for her to see if she liked them. Navy blue was the color of her family's crest, we chose this color to show our respect to her family.

Becca was looking at herself through a full height mirror to complete the finishing touches. After she put on a pair of small dangling blue earrings, I walked behind her and put my arms around her waist.

"You look so beautiful, Becca…"

Becca smiled at me through the mirror. "Thanks, Nick. I want us to look nice for our first full family meal. That way, they know how serious we are."

I shook my head, "I don't really get it…isn't time with family the one time you can dress more comfortably? If I really wanted to impress your family with my clothing, shouldn't I have worn my best when we first met your parents? Now that they already know our story, I doubt the outfits are very necessary…"

Becca put her hand on my arm and patted it. "You don't understand. Trust me, now is the perfect time for us to wear our best outfits."

"Whatever you say, honey. I'll be spending most of my time tonight playing with my nephew-in-law Ron anyways, so I will just go with the flow."

Becca chuckled, "Nick, you still have to continue coaxing my parents. Now that they are giving you a chance, this is the time to get them on your side!"

I quickly came up with an excuse, so that I could do what I really wanted. "And what better way to get your parents on my side than to be friendly and play with Ron?"

Becca rolled her eyes. "Don't think I don't know what you are thinking, Nick."

It looks like I was caught red-handed.

"Umm…"

"But I like the side of you that likes children so much. It makes me confident that you will be a good father."

I squeezed Becca a little bit tighter in my arms. "We can get started on making me a father whenever you are ready…"

Becca blushed brightly and quickly squirmed out of my arms. "Come on Nick! It's time to get going."

I couldn't help smiling from ear to ear because of her reaction. "Yes, let's have a good family gathering."
