Chapter 63 - Understanding What Happened

We stormed out of the restaurant with Becca pulling my arm. She didn't seem to have a specific place she was going, so I turned a corner and entered a small alley.

Becca still looked irritated. I, on the other hand, was breathing heavily and my heart was pounding. The fear and anxiety I felt from that unexpected scene make it so my adrenaline was still pumping even though I was no longer worried.

I took a deep breath and put my hands on Becca's shoulder. I looked her in the eyes and said, "it's okay now. Start from the beginning and let me know what happened."

After I finished my words, Becca's face softened. Then, she started to explain, "while you were in the bathroom, that man walked into the restaurant. The moment he saw me, he walked over and sat in your seat. Apparently, he is a regular at the restaurant. He told me he saw me sitting alone a few times before and decided to come and talk to me the next time he saw me. I didn't think much of it, since we would be leaving in a few minutes after you were back from the bathroom.

However, he all of a sudden put his hand on my shoulder and asked if I wanted to come back to his place. It was revolting! Who does he think I am? How dare he try to pick me up like that! I'm not some cheap whore! I told him the only man who can touch me is my husband and made a big ball of water from my spell to soak him. After he got wet, I still didn't think it was enough for the embarrassment he brought me, so I used the rest of my beer so it would make him sticky also! Are you mad at me for making a scene, Nick?"

Becca looked up at me with worry in her eyes. 'Gosh, this girl is too lovable. How could I get mad at her for putting a flirty guy in his place?' She is nothing like my ex. She cares about me straight forwardly and is fierce enough to fight her own battles. I moved one of my hands to the back of her head and leaned forward. I slowly planted a kiss on her forehead. I left my lips there for a few seconds, so she could feel the emotions I wanted to convey to her. This was the first time I had placed my lips on her since we had been together. She kissed me on the cheek before, so I'm sure she will be fine with this much.

After a few seconds, I pulled away and looked down at Becca. She was obviously stunned. She looked up at me with big wide open eyes and her hand was lightly touching the place I just kissed her.

I couldn't stare at her blank expression all longer, so I pulled her into a hug. "I'm not mad Becca. Actually, when I was walking back and saw a random man touching your shoulder, I wanted to kill him myself. So I'm really happy you made a big scene of rejecting him. Even though I know it's impossible, I was scared for a second that you would to go with him. Because of what happened with my ex, I'm paranoid of people changing their minds all of a sudden…"

Becca squeezed my torso tightly with her arms. "I'm a stubborn woman. Once I have something in my heart, I'm going to stick by it through thick and thin. I'm sure you have noticed with the time we spend together. You are the most important person in my heart, so you have nothing to worry about."

"Thanks Becca. You are in my heart as well… This got too heavy all of a sudden. Let's put this whole thing past us and continue enjoying our date."

"Yes! We still have some time to go check out the water fountain before we have to leave."

We walked through the market hand in hand until we reached the large open resting around. The large water fountain had an outer seating area at the edge of the water, so we found a spot to sit.

I looked into the water and saw the bottom of the water was filled with copper coins. As we were walking up, I had already seen a few families happily throwing in their coins in the hopes of having their wishes fulfilled.

Becca handed me a copper coin herself. "I got some change when I payed for the food while you were in the bathroom. Here, take one and make a wish. I already know what I want to ask for!"

Becca jumped up from her seat, faced the mermaids in the middle of the water fountain, and then closed her eyes and put her hands together to make her wish. I could have started making my wish as well, but I was having too much fun watching Becca. After a minute, she opened her eyes and threw the coin near the middle of the water, creating a nice splash.

Once the water splashed, I clapped my hands in encouragement. "Come on Nick! You need to make your wish too!"

"Alright! Alright!"

I stood up and closed my eyes as well. Even though I didn't believe my wish would magically come true because of throwing my coin in, I seriously thought about how my situation had changed so suddenly and what I truly wished for the most right now. Part of me wanted to wish Becca and I would get officially remarried after our promised 6 months period or that our law changes would be well received, but those were two things that I had control over and believed would work out how I wanted them as long as I put in the effort.

I decided to wish for the one thing that made me feel truly helpless. I wished that I would not be forced to leave this body, whether it be back to my world and body or to a new body in this world. I still had no idea how or why I had changed bodies…No matter how good my relationship with Becca became, it would be useless if I changed bodies and could never see her again. It was something that terrified me every time I got closer to Becca. So let's hope this wishing fountain fixes all my problems! I opened my eyes and threw my copper coin as high up in the air as I could, so it landed with a splash twice as big as Becca's
