Midnight laid curled up in her bed. She was thinking of what she wanted to do today when she heard her owners pouring food into her bowl. She decided she could go back to thinking later and went to eat the brown pellets. They were so tiny.
She yawned after eating and went to the door. She scratched at it a bit before one of her owners came over and opened it. She slipped outside and explored the yard. She wanted to explore the forest but she wasn't allowed to.
The backyard had a tree growing in it. There was a bird feeder hung from the tree and she would often try to catch birds or squirrels that went up to it. There were none, of course, since it was winter. The grass was soft beneath her paws. She walked through the grass to the willow tree, climbing up into it's branches like she usually would. She sat on a branch, looking around at the nearby yards and, most importantly, the forest.
She badly wanted to explore it. BADLY.
She wished she could just go down there and explore. She'd be back by sunset... Maybe.
That's when she saw a cream colored cat walking along the fence. She leaped down from the branch, landing on the fence gracefully. The cat had a black splat on it's left eye and legs that faded from brown in front to cream in the back. He had no collar.
"Hello!" Midnight meowed kindly.
"Hey," the cat said in response.
"What are you doing here?" she asked. "I've never seen you around before."
"I'm looking for a cat that wants to join my group," he answered truthfully.
Midnight jumped down. "I'm Midnight, by the way."
"Spot," the cat meowed. "Nice to meet you."
She examined Spot. "So, I'd join but my owners wouldn't appreciate that."
"Who cares?" Spot eyed her curiously. "You're a cat. Not some submissive dog."
"Hmm," Midnight wondered aloud. "I guess I can technically do whatever I want!"
"Yeah, so do you want to join or not?"
"Show me the way," Midnight said.
And Spot padded off torwards the smell of the river.
