Sovereign of Magic(Reworked)

The year is 2056 with Sam doing some paperwork in his office behind mountains of stacked papers when he heard a knock on his door and said as he stamped a document

"Enter"

Sam heard the door open with his secretary and sister Lilly placing another mountainous pile of papers on Sam's desk before she said as he also place a hot bowl of soup in front of him

"These are the last documents regarding the level-5 outbreaks for loot distributions and I'm guessing you haven't eaten all day so I made my special soup"

Sam grunted and said as he looked at all the paperwork he had to complete

"Thanks Lilly you can go now"

Lilly was about to leave when she noticed a framed photo of her and sam with another elderly man smiling and said as she picked up the photo

"I miss gramps"

Sam frowned a little and said as he took the picture and placed it back on his desk

"Me too Lilly, what do you say to going for some food later at the burger joint?"

Lilly smiled and nodded before she left and left Sam to enjoy his food before he continued with his paperwork and heard his alarm go off saying it was midnight before he stamped the last paper and put it in a filing cabinet

As soon as Sam left his office he saw the dozens of empty desks while Lilly had just finished making a cup of coffee and said once she notice Sam

"Midnight already? Well we won't get any younger so I'm ready to go when you are"

Sam put on his jacket and satchel before he and Lilly made their way to the lobby and were greeted by the security guard whom they've known for years as he said in a happy and cheerful way

"Hey guys, midnight already? Guess I should get some sleep soon"

Sam and Lilly laughed before they waved goodbye to the security guard and were about to enter the car they both used when Sam realized he left his keys in his office and said as he put his satchel on the car

"I left the keys, I'll go get them"

Lilly knew this would happen as it was a common occurrence for Sam to forget his keys and waved Sam off to get him to hurry up

Once Sam had reached his office he found the desk split in two and documents everywhere and was about to yell before he saw his view spinning till he was an inch from his own feet while he heard a woman's voice yell in anger

"You Idiot! He was the target! Now we've lost all of our jobs and our heads!"

Sam wanted to know more but only saw his vision darken while what little vision he had was red with his blood

Sam's life seemed over but he soon found himself floating in a river unable to move until he heard the sound of a horse trotting closer and closer till he was dragged out of the water by a cloaked man and while Sam wanted to speak he found himself unable to but could hear the figure say with multiple voices overlapping

"/Such a strong and wise Soul. It would be a waste to leave it in the river of the dammed, I hope this mortal can survive to engraving process\"

Sam couldn't move nor speak as the figure took out a knife on its waist and looked at Sam in the eyes

"/if you can hear me then prepare yourself\"

Sam didn't even know what was about to happen before he felt the stranger carve off his skin and started pulling out all of his bones one by one till Sam was no more then a pile of cut up chunks of meat while his head remained on a rock in view of the stranger while his bones were laid out of the ground in front of him before the stranger looked at Sam's head and then took out a wand and said as his bones started twisting and turning in different directions

"/Surely with such a strong soul you can hear me? You shall be given another chance at life while having what you wished for, Magic. but with your affinity for magic you will need help\"

Sam tried his hardest to scream as even though they were not connected to him he still felt his bones breaking and healing as fast they could for what seemed like hours before the stranger placed two jarred eyes in front of Sam's head and said as he pointed at the eye with a golden pupil and then the white pupil eye

"/these are magical eyes, the first one is the eye of remembrance. Any magic you see can be learned while the other one is the magic eye of nullification\"

Sam saw the eyes disappear before he saw dense streaks of blue dust on the air and wanted to cry with joy as he was already aware that the dust in the air were streaks of Mana in the air.

Mana was an odd phenomenon once the monsters appeared as most people thought they were going insane as mages were very rare and the essence of magic was to know the spell you want as well as being able to have the mana to use such a spell such as if a mechanic knew what parts he would need to make a lamp but found it impossible to gather the necessary items or a child who had the parts but didn't know their purpose and toss them away.

But after a few years the few mages who believed in themselves found themselves able to fly in the air or suddenly create a wall of fire and once mages started to grasp what they could do it started a new hunter occupation called Mage researchers where those who could understand magic spells and incantations but were incapable to use said magic could work to create new spells using monster cores to create runes

Sam would have both thanked the stranger who has given him the one thing he wanted and curse at him for the pain he had to endure before he noticed the chunks of meat that were from his body suddenly joined together into a huge ball before the stranger waved his wand as Sam's bones shot into the ball of flesh and said as the flesh and bones started to form the body of a well muscle toned teenager

"/Your new body is nearly ready so now is the last thing before we send you off back to earth so let us begin\"

Sam didn't care how much more pain he would have to endure as he wanted to use magic and was excited as the famous system appeared before his eyes

Sam was named the best mage researcher in the world as most or if not all of them had been used or tested by Sam personally as in his younger years he was driven to explore all magic as he had hundreds or maybe even tens of thousands of pages of spells and incantations he knew appearing one after another as he could hear the stranger panicking

"/how is this possible?! A Human has learned so much magic but could not use it?! It's impossible!\"

However Sam's vision faded once again as he felt as if he was thrown back into the river from when he was first pulled out of before he could very faintly hear Lilly's voice getting louder and louder till he could hear Lilly in his ear scream

"Wake up! We're going to be late!"

Sam was immediately awoken and looked around to see he was in a slightly familiar room before he turned to Lilly and said as he hugged her

"Thank goodness your alright! But how am I here I had my head cut off?"

Lilly looked confused before she said as she pushed sam off of her

"Did you have a nightmare after watching all of the horror movies? I told you not to because I knew this would happen"

Sam was perplexed before he saw a mirror and could clearly see himself in his younger years without the pasty white skin with bags under his eye and fell back on the bed for a moment before he looked for his phone and checked the day

-April 1st 2026-

Sam was stunned before Lilly hit him on the head and left

Sam realized it was no dream and took a deep breath as he said the words

"Open status"

Sam didn't believe reality before his door opened with his grandfather walking through the door holding a spatula and said

"Are you going to make me throw you in the pool just to wake you up? You need to get ready for school"

Sam jumped up and hugged his grandfather and said with tears in his eyes

"Your back! Your really here!"

The old man pulled Sam off and placed the back of his hand on Sam's forehead as he said while checking Sam's temperature

"Do you have a fever or something?… are you doing drugs?"

Sam laughed a little and opened his closet and said as he put on his school uniform

"No I'm not doing drugs but it's going to rain tonight so bring an umbrella when you go to the market"

The old man looked at the clear blue skies and saw no clouds in sight before he turned and saw Sam was gone while a note was on his bed saying

'Got a couple things to take care of, be back in a day or too'

The old man sighed and was about to leave for the market when he stopped at the door and thought about what Sam said before he took an umbrella with him while Sam was in a parking lot leaning on a rail looking over the city

'Looks like I got a second chance and I don't intend to lose it. I got exactly 8 months before the emergence so I got to step up my game to the max'

Sam then looked at his spells and incantations available to him

[Spell:Flame Hands]

(Cause your hands to heat up but is only hot enough to cook a meal)

(Grow claws and slash at a target, however is unlikely to make the target bleed)

(Might find a gem or a simple rock that was coloured)

(Can see mama more clearly then the human eye)

Sam scoured the endless list of available spells and found nothing of value before he took a look at the restricted spells and Incantations and was surprised on some of the ones he had found

Sam knew these spells would be handy for a fight against the monsters to come but knew he had to work his body to the max as he knew he couldn't take it lightly otherwise he was as good as dead but first he had something to do first as he called a cab and as he was waiting he felt a rain drop fall on his head before the rain quickly hit him like a storm

'I sure hopes that gramps won't get upset if I spend a few nights out of the house.'

Sam got into his cab that had pulled up and looked at the cab driver before he said as he passed him a piece of paper

"Take me here as fast as you can"

The cab drove off while Sam rested his head back and closed his eyes while he pictured Lilly and the old man back home

'I promise I'll make sure we stay together'
