Shirley was solving a case in Missouri at the St. Charleston High Spirit Week Parade. Shirley approached the person she thought was behind her mystery in disguise. Shirley said, "You got the stuff?" The guy said, "What's your rush?" Shirley said, "This needs to go down. St. Charleston High always wins the football game at the end of Spirit Week." The guy unzipped his backpack and showed Shirley his explosive football and remote. The guy said, "Here it is. Once I replace the real football with this fake one, I'll push this button, and then St. Charleston High will lose to St. Glisten High for the first time." Shirley said, "But don't you think that's unfair to the other team?" The guy said, "Of course, but desperate times call for desperate measures. They're sure to lose."
Shirley removed her wig and sunglasses and showed her authentic self and Toby her badge. Shirley said, "Speaking of losing, game over, Toby. Shirley Hudson, worldwide girl detective." Toby put his hands up in the air and secretly grabbed his backpack with his foot. Toby said, "Oh well, looks like you caught me." Toby kicked his bag in Shirley's face and rode out on his skateboard. Toby said, "Not." Toby rode away with the football, but Shirley got up and chased after him. Shirley stopped when she saw Toby skateboarding out. Shirley then looked to her left and saw a few girls heading for their bikes at the bike rack. Then Shirley took one of their bikes and the helmet. Shirley said, "Sorry, emergency, thank you." Shirley rode the bike after Toby, and Toby saw Shirley chasing him. Shirley then rode right next to Toby. Shirley said, "Give it up, Toby. You're going down." Toby jumped off his skateboard and climbed up into a tree. Shirley stopped her bike and went up into the tree after Toby. Then Toby jumped to the school's roof, and Shirley cornered him. Once Toby saw Shirley, he got up on the roof's edge, showed Shirley the fake football, and Shirley stopped. Toby said, "One false move, and you'll wish I had wings. Leave, and I'll step down." Shirley was having difficulty deciding, and while thinking, Toby started to step off the edge. Shirley came up with an idea and ran up to Toby. Then Toby stepped off the edge, and Shirley grabbed his arm. Shirley said, "I got you." Shirley pulled Toby up, took his football and remote from him, and took him home, where his parents grounded him.
The next day, Toby went to detention at his school. Shirley said, "Your football-sabotaging days are over." Toby said, "Maybe for now, but I can keep trying until I succeed." Shirley said, "That'll never happen with me around." Toby said, "Shut up and leave me here." Shirley left the detention room at St. Glisten and then left the school. Shirley then went to St. Charleston and spoke with Principal Michele, who thanked Shirley for solving the mystery when they met in her office. Principal Michele said, "Thank you, Shirley, you saved the football game." Shirley said, "No problem. I'm just happy to help." Principal Michele said, "Good. Because a lot of people say that you're a great detective." Shirley said, "What they say is true. I can solve any crime." Principal Michele said, "Good, you're free to go." Shirley left Principal Michele's office and drove to her hotel in her car. When Shirley got to her hotel, she went to her hotel room and waited for another mystery. That same night at St. Charleston High, Susan Matane went to see their snake mascot named Slimy. While visiting him, somebody wearing a cloak brought out a flute and started playing Snake Charmer on it. Susan said, "That's odd. Who could be playing a flute at this hour?"
Susan left to see where the music came from but didn't see anybody outside. Then she circled the entire school perimeter but still didn't see anybody. While the music played, somebody stole every book in the town's bookstore without opening the doors or windows. Susan went back inside the school to see Slimy when the music stopped. She saw that he was gone when she got to the room where they kept Slimy. Susan said, "Where's Slimy? WHERE'S SLIMY?" Principal Michele came over to see why Susan was so upset and saw that Slimy was gone. Principal Michele said, "Susan, where's Slimy?" Susan said, "I don't know." Principal Michele said, "This isn't good." Susan said, "Time to call in Shirley Hudson." Principal Michele said, "You're right; she'll solve this crime."
Shirley was reading a magazine when her cell phone started ringing, and she answered it. Shirley said, "Hello." Susan said, "Hello, Shirley." Shirley said, "What?" Susan said, "This is Susan Matane from St. Charleston High." Shirley said, "What's the mystery?" Susan said, "Somebody has stolen our snake mascot." Shirley said, "I'm on it." Shirley drove her car to the high school and went to the crime scene. When she got to the crime scene, she saw Susan and asked her a few questions. Shirley said, "Is this where the crime took place?" Susan said, "Yes. I went outside for five minutes when I heard somebody playing Snake Charmer on the flute. When I came back, he was gone." Shirley said, "Guess I should start here." Shirley used her magnifying glass to check the crime scene for clues but found nothing. Shirley said, "No forced entry, no prints, no clues, nothing." Susan asked, "Are you telling me somebody stole a beloved mascot without leaving any clues?" Shirley said, "It would appear so."
While Shirley was investigating, Principal Michele came into the room madly. Principal Michele said, "Shirley." Shirley said, "Principal Michele." Principal Michele said, "Shirley, Slimy is our mascot. We'll lose if you don't find him by the football game. Now find him." Shirley said, "I will." Principal Michele said, "Good." Susan walked up to Shirley and showed her what she had found. Susan said, "Hey, Shirley. Check this out. I checked Slimy's tank and found this." Susan showed Shirley the note she found, and Shirley read it. Shirley said, "'This Is Just the Beginning.' Well, it's nice of whoever did this to tell me. But the bad news is, they were careful; they cut out all the letters from magazine headlines. No handwriting."
