Chapter 38 - Unknown Mask

After four more days, Astrick has been here for 10 days now, meaning he has 20 more days before he'll have to go back to the fallen world.

It also means the duration of his main Quest will continue leaving him about 10 days in the fallen world's time before having to fight Jack and completing his Quest.

'Thinking about this won't help right now, I'll worry about this when the time comes... '

Astrick pushed this subject to the back of his mind as he continued to hit the wooden dummy with his full force.

Since his fight with Conor, he had been using this wooden dummy trying to redo the same moves Conor did when he saw him for the first time, but no matter how hard he tried, he always felt like something was missing as his punches weren't as fast as Conor's nor did they have the same power hidden behind them.

Astrick couldn't understand what he was doing wrong as he believed he was doing the exact same moves he saw Conor doing but the results were, for some reason, completely different.

"Ugh... This is useless, I'm not doing any progress"

After going on for a little bit more Astrick finally decided to stop his ineffective attempts of copying Conor's fighting style as he chose to just ask Conor to teach him once he's awake.

'Speaking of Conor, I should go visit him, shouldn't I? '

Astrick thought to himself as he recalled that he hadn't visited Conor in the past three days, he remembered that should also get something for him when he wakes up...

Leaving the dojo, Astrick started wandering around the base looking for something to buy for Conor. He found out that money, which is as worthless as dust at the end of the world is still used here in this base, though it's a different currency to avoid some problems, it's still impressive that it's somehow working.

It made Astrick even more curious about the identity of the leader of this base and his great leadership skills.

Walking through the lively streets of the base, Astrick saw some little children playing around and laughing together, unaware of the great dangers behind these walls.

The pure innocent smiles on their faces created a cute smile on Astrick's face, without his awareness he kept standing there looking at the kids for a while, he kept staring at them for a long time not realizing the weird looks people were giving him.

The kids were playing some game similar to tag, but as they were running, a 6--8-year-old girl crashed into Astrick's leg as she fell on her back getting Astrick out of his daydreams...

"I... I... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to... "

Looking up at the man she dashed into, the girl's face turned pale losing all colour as she struggled to get out her words of apology.

Astrick thought the girl looked so cute as he got down on his knee to be at her height level.

"It's okay little girl, I'm not mad... can you tell me your name? "

Patting the little girl's head, Astrick tried to start a conversation, but for some reason he didn't know, his words seemed to turn the girl's skin even paler.

Wondering about the reason for the girl's weird reaction, Astrick looked around them as he finally saw the strange way others were looking at him...

No, not just him, there were also some looks of empathy and pity towards the little girl.

Astrick was so confused about the reason for these people's reactions as he thought to himself...

'Is there something on my face!? '

While he was trying to figure out why people were giving him such strange looks, Astrick noticed many of the people here are wearing dirty choppy clothes which probably means this is a poor area.

This made Astrick assume that people thought he was some kind of royal person considering his clean clothes and his good looks paired with his nice black leather jacket ...

While Astrick was lost in his assumptions, a woman ran in and held the little girl putting her behind her as if she was trying to protect her from Astrick, she seemed to be either the girl's mother or older sister...

Seeing this Astrick let out a long sigh as he got up and walked away slowly, he knew that he was probably not welcomed in such a place as poor people always blame those who are above them for their bad circumstances and conditions.

As he kept on moving while looking for something nice to buy for Conor as he originally planned...

After a long time of walking Astrick started to notice the streets getting more and more empty as he kept walking down that road...

After a while of walking aimlessly, he found a lonely old building that seemed to sell various stuff including swords, masks and many other things.

Astrick didn't know why but he felt some sort of an instinctive feeling that told him to go inside and before you know it, his legs were already leading him inside as he opened the shop's dusty door...

*Ding

A sound of a bell ringing was heard as Astrick entered the store with a curious look on his face.

The store was so quiet and looked like it didn't have a single customer in it for a while... Forget customers, Astrick suspected the store had any soul inside of it for a long time as spider webs were filling the place alongside the dust that was cramming the air inside.

Astrick thought he entered an abandoned place or something as he wondered who in the world owned this place and decided to let it get this dusty...

Coughing a few times Astrick waved his hand trying to keep the dust away from his nose in a useless attempt of keeping it out of his lungs...

After getting a bit used to the air inside the shop, Astrick moved his legs watching the merchandise shown on the shelves around the store...

When Astrick was wandering around the store he saw something that caught his eye's attention, he could see a half-red, half-blue demon mask, the mask had some tinges of white and silver lines adding more beauty to the mask...

Staring at the mask inserted some sort of a deep feeling of dread into Astrick as he took a step back away from the mask...

But he stopped backing up all of a sudden as he thought to himself...

'Am I afraid of a simple mask?'

Astrick felt some shame realizing that he was afraid of a non-living object as he walked forward towards the mask while his instincts were screaming at him to get away from it...

Standing next to the mask, Astrick raised his hand as he slowly moved it towards the mask, and once his hand made contact with it...

His vision had gone dark....
