Mineah raised an eyebrow at her husband. Like her, Nikolai seemed startled with how he reacted. Quickly composing himself, he tried to relax as he brought his sour and dark frown back into his usual straight expression.
"I mean… I don't like my Scions drinking human blood," he quickly explained with a straight face. "It's not proper for them to drink from their Queen, let alone even get a whiff of your blood."
She couldn't help but faintly smile at his efforts. She found it amusing how her husband was trying hard to remain expressionless. It was only a good thing for her that she could still easily read him. His body and heart surely recognized her well. Of that, she was confident.
"But what can we do when I see hesitation in your eyes?" Mineah hummed. "Your mind can't recognize me, but deep down, I'm sure you're still able to feel the familiarity of my presence, Lai."
