Chapter 11 - chapter 11:Events before the naming ceremony

Seven days has passed since the arrival and celebration of Danddy's baby and today is the eight day.

The eighth day of the life of every male child of Dawanda is a day set aside for his naming , another ceremony that only the male child of Dawanda is entitled to.

This ceremony involves the participation of a priest that name the baby according to the leading of the spirit. it is a general believe in Dawanda that a child's name aid the child in fulfilling his destiny here on earth while the priesthood blessings are to protect and preserve the male child.

Danddy has given the people notice and invitation through the town crier of his daughter's naming ceremony coming up that very day, most people laughed at him at how foolish he was , wasting such resources on a girl child, while others almost fought him for insulting them again, by inviting them to celebrate a common girl.

There were many mixed feelings and reactions coming from the people of Dawanda, which did not bother Danddy in the slightest but rather encourage him to proceed in doing what he was doing.

After the exchange of words that nearly led to a fight between Danddy and Rufus the yam farmer, who found it insulting that Danddy will invite him to celebrate a common girl child , who does he think he is? Did he birth a goddess? Making a fool of me like this?, a whole me?,Rufus said, does he know how many girls I have in my house? he continued.

Rufus had prided himself to be the highest and richest yam farmer in the kingdom with the biggest work force. The work force been his wives and daughters.

So zubi another yam farmer in there midst asked Rufus, how many daughters do you have? Because everybody know how ruthlessly Rufus deals with his wives and daughters.

Exactly my point, Rufus said, I don't know how many they are because it is not necessary, this women has only one purpose and that is to cater to our needs both in bed and in farms, so why should I be invited to celebrate another man's girl child when I don't even care to know the number of the ones in my house let alone their names?

There sole importance is to work and nothing more. Everyone there laughed and cheered him on, except Zubi who has come to the aid of Rufus' wives and daughters a number of times by giving them some food and water on there way home from their father's farm where they had worked all day without having anything to eat. He shook his head and refuse to comment any further.

Danddy left that drinking parlor to go somewhere else to invite more people. On his way he began to wonder how people could treat there flesh and blood in such manner? He couldn't understand how people could do that because he can't imagine doing that to his daughter.

Danddy walked into another drinking parlor and sat down quietly without the waiter noticing him .

He was deep in thought, thinking of his life before the arrival of his daughter. He had sat in the midst of men talking about there wives and daughters, about how they run their homes with iron fist .he remembered how they had said that if you don't show this women there place ,that they will come to question them the men one day, so there is no room for leniency in their houses.

Danddy didn't know that he will come to love his daughter like he does now but he never had any intentions of mistreating his female children even before this one came , he never planned to celebrate her until he laid his eyes on her and asked himself why shouldn't she get the same treatment as the others?

Because in his eyes and heart she is equal to any male child. Though he doesn't have any now but will wait and see but he seriously doubt if anything will ever change he said to himself before calling on the waiter to order something to drink for himself.
