The next morning was swathed in a soft orange hue, casting gentle rays into Orion's room. He groggily pushed the sheets aside and stood, stretching his arms above his head. "Another day, another adventure," he mumbled to himself, referencing the whirlwind nature of his anime mash-up life.
Making his way to the kitchen, the aromatic scent of coffee mixed with fresh pastries welcomed him. His mothers, Elara and Selene, bustled around, preparing breakfast. "Morning, Orion," Elara greeted, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. Her soft voice always carried an endearing maternal warmth.
Selene smiled, placing a cup of freshly brewed coffee in front of him. "You ready for another long day at school, sweetheart?"
Orion smirked, taking a sip of the steaming beverage. "With Kakashi in PE? Always."
Luna and Aurora were already seated, engrossed in a conversation. "You know," Luna began, her tone light and teasing, "I heard Kakashi has a new challenge for everyone today."
Aurora rolled her eyes, playfully nudging Luna. "It can't be worse than last week's football," she remarked.
After a hearty meal, Orion stood, pushing back his chair. Extending both his hands towards his sisters, they interlaced their fingers with his, ready to start their day. They'd always walked to school together, a cherished routine.
As they exited their home, Orion mused aloud, "So, PE first, huh?" The anticipation evident in his voice.
Luna giggled. "I hope you're ready. I've been practicing."
Aurora smirked. "You? Practice? Now that's news."
Orion couldn't help but laugh. Their banter always set a positive tone for his day.
The trio approached the school's gymnasium, the sound of shoes squeaking and balls bouncing growing louder. Kakashi stood, clipboard in hand, a mysterious smile playing under his mask. "Ah, Orion, Luna, Aurora," he greeted, not looking up from his board. "I hope you three are prepared."
"Always am, Sensei," Orion replied confidently.
The PE session was intense. Kakashi had devised a relay race with a twist. Each student was paired with another, their legs tied together. Orion paired up with Morgiana, Luna with Levy, and Aurora with Mikasa. The course was riddled with obstacles, from hurdles to crawling spaces.
With the pairs formed, the starting line was buzzing with tension. Students stretched their tied legs, taking tentative practice steps, gauging their coordination. Among them, Orion and Morgiana were already attracting attention.
"Why'd he pair with Morgiana?" Hinata whispered to Orihime, pouting, "Her legs are strong, and Orion's just as athletic. They'll be trying to outdo each other. Orion would be better with me."
Lucy leaned over to Levy, "I can see them already butting heads, both wanting to take charge."
Morgiana flashed a confident grin. "You better keep up, Orion."
Orion smirked back, "Oh, I plan to. Just try not to trip us."
And then Kakashi's whistle blew, echoing through the gymnasium. Pairs lunged forward, some stumbling, others darting ahead with surprising synchronization. Orion and Morgiana's initial steps were in sync, but that quickly dissolved into a tug of war of dominance. Both exerting forward force, they misstepped, causing them to veer off the intended path.
"Left, left!" Orion grumbled, pulling slightly.
"I'm leading! Right!" Morgiana shot back.
Their competitiveness made them slow down as both struggled for control. Aurora and Mikasa were leading, followed closely by Luna and Levy.
Orion and Morgiana stumbled again, their clashing rhythms evident. Every few steps, there was a slight delay, a misjudgment, resulting in jerky movements.
Morgiana huffed. "You're so stubborn!"
"Coming from you? That's rich," Orion shot back, his eyes focused on the path ahead. Their combined competitiveness was a disadvantage. Instead of moving as a cohesive unit, they were trying to outdo one another.
As they tried to leap over the first hurdle, they miscalculated the jump. Orion went too high while Morgiana aimed too low, causing them to knock the hurdle down. Orion grumbled under his breath, "This would've been easier solo."
Morgiana's cheeks reddened, partially out of embarrassment and partly due to being so close to him. "Okay, look," she whispered, her grip tightening on his hand, "I'll lead for the first half. Just trust me."
Orion raised an eyebrow, "Trust you?"
Before Morgiana could reply, Luna and Levy shot past them with a seamless maneuver. The two laughed, "Maybe try not fighting each other!" Luna teased.
Aurora and Mikasa were a little ahead, their synchronicity almost natural. Mikasa, with her strong will, effortlessly took charge while Aurora seemed content in following.
However, things began to take a surprising turn for other pairs.
Hinata, who had paired with Orihime, was distracted by Orion's struggle. As a result, they stumbled and almost face-planted, but Orihime managed to catch them at the last second. Winry and Yachiru were bickering, causing them to accidentally step into a puddle, making their next few steps slippery. Vivi and Ririchiyo, lost in their own thoughts, missed a hurdle entirely.
Yuuki whispered something to Alice, which seemed to be a strategy. But in the next moment, they tripped over their own feet, laughing at their misfortune. Nezuko and Tatsumaki, both fiercely independent, faced similar issues to Orion and Morgiana, each trying to dominate.
Morgiana, taking her newfound leadership role seriously, expertly navigated the tight crawling spaces. Orion, trusting her, followed suit. Their synchronization improved slightly. However, as they emerged from the tight crawl, they bumped heads.
"Ow," Morgiana mumbled, rubbing her head.
Orion smirked, "See? I told you."
Morgiana shot him a look but couldn't help a small smile. Their brief moment was interrupted by Lucy and Akeno, both of whom sped past them. "Better luck next time!" Akeno teased, her voice light.
Saeko whispered words of encouragement to Mizore, ensuring they remained focused. They were now leading the pack, with Aurora and Mikasa in close pursuit.
The finish line was nearing, and Morgiana and Orion were nowhere near the lead. Morgiana looked into Orion's eyes, her determination evident. "We can still win this," she whispered.
Orion, his competitive nature ignited, nodded. "Let's do it."
Using a sudden burst of speed, the pair sprinted forward, their strides now perfectly in sync. They managed to surpass Hinata and Orihime, then Vivi and Ririchiyo.
Saeko and Mizore were now behind Orion and Morgiana. Luna and Levy, seeing the sudden surge from Orion and Morgiana, tried to push harder but tripped over a stray ball, laughing as they went down.
Orion and Morgiana were now neck and neck with Aurora and Mikasa. As the finish line loomed, a loose shoelace caused Mikasa to falter, slowing them down.
Using this chance, Orion and Morgiana crossed the line, panting heavily but victorious.
Kakashi, always observing, nodded in approval. "Interesting," he commented.
Orion looked at Morgiana, his smirk evident. "I guess we make a good team, after all."
Morgiana blushed, rolling her eyes but agreeing, "Only when you listen."
Aurora and Luna approached, laughing, "Never doubted you two for a second," Aurora teased.
Luna winked at Morgiana, "You've got your hands full with this one."
Morgiana laughed, "You have no idea."
Orion, always ready for a challenge, took Morgiana's hand, squeezing it gently. "Ready for round two?"
Morgiana's eyes sparkled, "Always."
