Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: A mysterious young boy

I am currently cooking for breakfast, cooked eggs, freshly baked butter bread, and some greens on the side.

I woke up this morning from a good night's rest, it was also accompanied by the good scenery i saw from outside, so i am feeling melancholic.

Until i heard a scream.

"##### I DIED!!!"

The shout of the young boy from upstairs blasted throughout the house.

"Oh!! Oh god!!!"

I exclaimed from the shock his scream brought.

The utensils i was holding all fell on the floor and i rushed towards upstairs and headed to the guest room he was currently at.

He is the young boy we found laying with the debris of a broken carriage on the side of the cliff last night during a storm.

--FLASHBACK--

*BGSSHHHHK

A loud thunderclap sounded all over the forest.

Our wagon is currently traversing a trail within a forest that leads to our village. Adding to that, we are currently in a heavy storm.

"The weather is absolutely the worst today!"

I let out a frustrated complaint.

"But it's a good thing we were able to deliver our products today before the storm snuck in"

Harold told me with the intent of cheering me up.

"Hmm Agreed"

I agreed.

It was a good thing we wore these Anti-drench cloaks, or else we would've been freezing. Though these magic cloaks costed us a fortune, i'm now just realizing the benefits of this cloak.

(I apologize for arguing with you to not buy these magic cloaks Harold earlier, i really do)

I apologized in my head as i glance at the back of the capable man i married as he coach the wagon.

"Oh by the way, your son's letter is supposed to arrive tomorrow, well i hope it arrives..."

I told Harold.

"Don't worry it will arrive, and your son will already be in Academia"

He was focused with his coaching but despite that, he still assured me.

"You are such a lovely husband, Harold-"

My compliment was cut short.

"What the heck?..."

Harold exclaimed as he stopped coaching the wagon.

He then unboarded and went towards the side of the road.

My eyes followed him as i was baffled by his behavior.

"Hey!!!! Harold!!! What are you doing?! it's raining hard!!"

I called out to him

I then got up and unboarded the wagon to follow him.

"Harold!!"

I called out to him once again as i go through the trees and shrubs just like Harold did.

"I don't know what you saw here but we really need to go ho-"

My words were once again cut short.

A whole entire scene that portrays an accident was revealed in front of my eyes.

"Agatha!...."

Harold weakly but loudly called out for me after seeing me behind him.

I couldn't even respond to him because of the scene in front of me.

*CCHHHHHCHHHHHHHCHHHH

The surrounding trees were swaying and dancing

*SHHHHWSHWWWSHW

the violent wind was singing,

*BGSSSSHHHKKKK

the thunders and lightning were roaring and the rainfall was heavier than ever.

Harold and i could only stand still from the shock, as we observe the scene.

The storm was loud but our heartbeats were louder.

The surroundings were nothing compared to the scene itself, a broken carriage crushed by both gravity and the debris from the cliff side, puddles of water that were all turning red because of blood, the fragrance of petrichor slowly being contaminated by a metallic smell, but what rests between these details were the cause... the bodies.

"These people, is there an important person here!?"

I asked no one but myself and Harold as i began to walk closer to the scene.

"I don't know!... Oh and don't come closer for now! let's observe first if there is anyone alive, because if any of them were dangerous and capable, and they wake up, i don't think we could stay here any longer!"

Harold told me by shouting as he halted me from my steps.

I then stopped and nodded at him.

(Harold is right, we don't know if these people are harmless anyways, so let us oberve for now)

I thought to myself.

I then began to dart my eyes across the scene, and began observing.

I then saw a body at a farther distance from the epicenter of the accident.

There was one man that was positioned the farthest from the carriage, he was stabbed by a sturdy branch of the tree he seemed to have landed on.

There were other men who were positioned around the carriage, they wore these black and cryptic garments that only screamed that they were assassins.

"Assassins!"

Harold muttered loudly.

One of them got their head crushed by the floor, one of them got stabbed by a wooden debris from the carriage on their head and was also crushed by the gravity, and the last one got crushed by a huge boulder.

"But i don't think that any of them are capable of surviving this fall!"

I told Harold as i look at him from afar. He seemed to have come inside the center of the scene, the carriage debris.

"No, Agatha, you're wrong!"

Harold called out to me as he slowly looked towards me.

He then gestured me to come inside the center with him.

There was one more man, no a young boy in the middle of all the carriage debris. He was laying on the dirt-ridden ground as if he was sleeping on a bed.

I then knelt down to check his body for pulse. And good god he was still alive. But there were no injuries at all. No cuts, no concussion, no broken and dislocated limbs, no stabs, no nothing. He was just drenched and dirtied all over.

"How is this possible?"

I questioned.

"His carriage obviously dropped from all the way up there"

I said as i struggled look up the cliff while its raining.

"Why?"

Harold asked.

"He's alive, that's good.....but..."

I answered while still wondering why and how he has no injuries.

"But what?"

Harold further asked.

"He has no injuries whatsoever.."

I answered Harold as i touch the face of the young boy.

A blonde young boy, with pale skin, he is dirty, but you could still distinguish the well-sheltered beauty he might have been. He also looks to be the same as my son, and from his expression, he must've been confused before this accident happened.

"That's not important, what's important is that he's alive! Let's go bring him to the wagon"! Quick!

Harold urged me.

I obeyed him because he was right, what was important was that the boy was still alive.

After making sure no one other than him were alive and that no one around were watching us, Harold then began to put the boy on his back, and i helped him with it.

We exited the scene of the accident, and vowed with ourselves to not speak of this matter to anyone until the boy wakes up.

We then went back to the wagon and placed him beside the products we brought from the city. We covered him with three of the blankets we had in the wagon for covering our products to soak up the water from his body and protect him from the cold.

Harold then went back to coaching the wagon and we proceeded to go back to our village with a knot in our hearts.

The whole ride on the way to the village was just us being silent and probably still thinking about the scene we witnessed earlier.

The weather then began to calm down and it was now a quiet night, we already exited the forest and was now in the normal plains that our village is at.

During the calm ride, I didn't really want to talk with Harold for now as he also is probably sorting out his thoughts, so i just didn't converse with him. But to cope with my boredom, i began observing the young boy.

Accompanied by his noble looks were his noble clothings.

A white tunic, riddled with golden details, its dirty now though. Jewelries, jewel earrings, a golden neclace, a silver ring with a green gem on it. Black pants made from magic-made materials.

But the most striking was the insignia on the back of his tunic, it was no longer recognizable, so there was no way for us to tell on which house he was in.

I then put my eyes back on the sides of the road to spot for possible dangers, and luckily there was none.

We arrived at our village, and settled back in after months of not coming back.

We settled the boy in one of our guest rooms, and took care of him.

---

Days have passed, and still the boy is asleep.

We were getting a little worried of how long he will have to stay like that, and how long we will have to take care of him.

But despite the wait, Me and Harold still took care of him. Even to the point of talking to him about our daily lives, despite him being so deep asleep.

We have let our guards down with him as a literal stranger for weeks now, mainly because of his warm and innocent smile that he displays from time to time.

Those smiles were just too alluring for us to continue guarding up whenever we enter the guest room he was in.

Also coupled with the fact that our son have just left us to go to a prestigious academy, leaving us feeling empty for weeks now.

We have basically nearly placed him as a stand-in son, in place of our real child.

---

A month passed, and we began to deeply worry.

It was just so absurd for us for someone completely uninjured from that freak accident to continue heal sleeping.

So we concluded to let in a curse-healer to check on him.

Our pocket hurts, but we couldn't really afford to let a child that we have grown attached to to just die, despite us not even knowing his name.

---

After a day, the curse-healer we have anticipated for, arrived from the nearest city from our village, and we let him check on him.

"Hmmm... It seems that there is nothing majorly wrong with him though... What caused this long sleep might be a physical problem"

The curse-healer informed us with a bewildered expression while looking at the boy.

"But do you perhaps might know what house this boy come from?"

I then proceeded to ask the curse-healer.

I then showed him the faded back of the boy's tunic.

The curse-healer inspected the faded insignia on the clothing while holding his chin, and shook his head.

"I can't really point out anything from this disheveled insignia, and i don't think he's a noble from this region either, because if he was, i would've recognized his alluring and popularly looks. I've been working for Ruthenian nobles all my life."

The curse-healer answered us straight-forwardly.

We then showed the curse-healer out of the house and payed him.

---

We were relieved that it wasn't a curse, but we also weren't relieved either because now we will never know his real problem.

We searched for many and every healers we could find within the entire region, but we couldn't find anyone who knew his real problem.

We were running out of money for his inspection, so we decided to call it off.

---

Months have passes again, and he was still frozen in time.

He was still able to eat, drink and even urinate and defecate like a normal person, though with our assistance through magic. But unlike his stable bodily functions, he was still deep asleep.

Through time, the news of our guest spread within the village, many of the village people began to ask about the boy, and some of our closed ones even began to check up on him to either observe him, or even talk to him.

His sleep reached a year, and thats when people in our village began to call him the "Eternal Slumberer". And some even feared that his "curse" was going to affect both me and Harold, and then them.

But alas, nothing really happened, and soon the unfunny rumor died down.

---

A couple of months passed again, and we just decided to take care of him like our child who was just asleep, until someone connected to him finds him.

We lost hope now, and just decided to take care of him until he ages and passes.

We also decided to hide him from our son once he visits back.

Mainly because he might lash out at us and yell at us for letting an 'accursed' person within our home.

And he might do something with him if he was desparate enough.
