When Kaden opened his eyes after attempting to maintain his meditative state, he saw a faint outline of a path shimmering in the air where the monks had previously walked. It was as if the state of Zen allowed him to perceive layers of the world that were otherwise hidden.
Kaden grinned, his earlier frustrations washed away by this new discovery. "So, this is the Peaks of Penance," he muttered to himself, marveling at the concealed gateway in front of him.
He stood up and walked towards the edge once more. He then stepped onto the shimmering path.
As he did, his body tingled as if passing through a thin veil, and the mountain scenery around him morphed into an entirely different landscape.
He found himself standing on a precarious stone path that seemed to spiral up another mountain range. Except this range was unlike any he had seen before. The Peaks were swathed in a dense mist. They were steep and narrow with no sign of vegetation.
