Chapter 13 - Happy Early Birthday

I couldn't wait to meet with Anna and tell her the news of our new assignment. She wasn't excited the assignment was centered around her birthday but she was happy to have a new task. "I have been so bored without the Luna being here." She told me. Luna Ariel would not arrive for another two weeks. That would give us enough time to handle all the Alpha’s requests.

For me, I was just happy to contribute something, even if it wasn’t a permanent job.

By week’s end, we had gathered everything we needed and packed it up to go to the cabins for the meeting that would take place the next day. The Alpha Kings’ lands ran large and wide. For security reasons, the designated area to meet with the rogue leaders would be at the very edge of that land.

The ride from the Alpha’s house to the cabins took almost an hour. I was amazed at how far the pack’s land extended. And every inch of it was beautiful. From the high trees to the various lakes. No matter where I turned, grandness could be found.

Alex and a few guards escorted us to the cabin, which made the ride more enjoyable. He joked around a lot which always kept my spirits up. Every time I was around him, I could not help but smile.

When we arrived at the cabin, Alex and the other guards helped unpack everything into the two cabins. One house was for the Alpha and the people he wanted to attend the meeting. And the other cabin was for the rogues. While they unpacked everything from the cars, Anna and I dusted and made the places look presentable. I could see some of the guards frowning when they notice the items we stocked in the rogue’s cabin. I even heard a few guards say things like, "Why do we have to feed them? Why are they giving them fresh blankets and towels?" I scowled at the comments and remembered what Alex said about the rogues wanting to be treated like every other wolf.

"Are you okay Zaya?" Alex sneaked up behind me. I had just finished dusting the cabin which hadn’t been occupied in what looked like forever. "What was that face you just made?"

"Nothing." I brushed off his question.

"Ok good. I would hate for your fun night to start with a problem."

I did not understand what he meant by that. "What do you mean? I don’t have anything planned for tonight."

His smile grew big, like a kid holding on to a secret. "Well, my brother and I remembered that Anna’s birthday is tomorrow and your birthday is coming up in two days. We both thought it would be a nice idea to have you two relax out here away from everything. Since you are out here anyway, you might as well take advantage."

I was skeptical. Godric was nice but he didn't seem like the type of person who would care about my birthday. "Are you sure Godric said it is okay for us to stay? You guys are using this area for an important meeting tomorrow. I doubt if he would be ok with us making a mess."

"It was his idea. And to make sure you ladies don't make a mess, he said you can stay in his room upstairs. By the time he gets here, he'll be more interested in taking care of business. He won't care what state his room is in."

I looked around at the secluded area. Knowing the rogues would arrive tomorrow morning and remembering what Godric said about kidnappings had me unexcited about being all the way out here alone. "I'm not sure I want to be out here alone. And I'm sure Anna feels the same."

"Silly wolf. You ladies will not be alone. As Beta, I am securing this area until Alpha gets here. I and the guards will be patrolling these woods all night."

Hearing that Alex will not be far away made me feel a lot better. I gave him a quick hug and thanked him. As soon as I embraced him, my nose was invaded by a soft sweet smell. I quickly backed away from him. He had a look in his eyes that I couldn't place. "I'm going to go tell Anna the great news." I ran towards the house, in a hurry to get away from him and what my nose was trying to tell me.

I was completely confused by my body the last few days. Anna said my senses and my body would feel a certain way when touched by my mate. She said I would feel something even if I didn't have my wolf yet. She also said I would smell something I love when he is near. I was starting to think she was wrong because I smell sweet stuff when I am near both Godric and Alex. It was impossible for me to have two mates. The moon goddess would not allow it. So something must be wrong.

I put my worries behind me and found Anna in the house. She was making the bed in one of the guest rooms. When I told her the news she was beyond happy. We spent the whole night hanging out in the Alphas room which was equipped with everything we needed. A fireplace, huge bathroom, lounge area, and a small bar. It was the perfect escape. Since no one was around, we grabbed one of the bottles from the bar and drank all night.

Anna had passed out on the couch in the lounge area. I curled up at the top of the bed with my arms and legs wrapped around a pillow. By the time morning came, neither one of us cared to get up.

My body jolted awake. I grabbed the pillow against my body while I tried to remember where I was. Anna was still across the room slouched on the couch. She was sound asleep. The smell of vanilla and sugar hit my nose. It was so strong that my body froze. By now I knew that smell. The first few times I smelled it, there was a mixture in the air making it hard to distinguish. But now it was clear. I sat up and nearly fell out of the bed.

Godric was laying in the bed with his back facing me. He looked as if he had just laid down. Still fully clothed. There was a light snore as he breathe in and out. Making as little movement as possible, I laid back down.

I continued to watch as his body move up and down. Making note of the curves of his muscles. The shirt he was wearing left no room for anything else. No matter how hard I tried not to think of him in that way, Godric was beyond handsome. Just like Alpha Ken, he was almost perfect. I scooted closer to him. I realized this was the closest I had been to him in days.

Not knowing when I would get this opportunity again, I took one deep breath inhaling the sweet scent. It was almost intoxicating. I wasn't sure what the moon goddess had in store for me, or what my body what trying to tell me. But I told myself I would embrace it. My eyes closed and I fell asleep once more.
