Chapter 12 - Chapter 11.

•Virgo's POV•

•Half an hour later•

I genuinely regret going in a group with Leo and Ophiuchus(after catching up with them). All Ophiuchus does is hiss and complain while Leo just continues staring at her dopey-face. I mentally facepalm. I may be smart, but making this decision really was a dumb move of mine.

"Virgo, are you okay?" Taurus whispered from next to me, as I just realised I was holding the bridge of my nose. I looked to him and gave a swift nod. He simply frowned, not completely convinced.

"I just hope the others are doing better than us." I sighed, folding my arms across my chest.

"Is there something wrong with this group?" Taurus asked. He was so dense, was he oblivious to the constant complaining and cringe-worthy stares ahead of us? I simply gestured between Leo and Ophiuchus, and his frown deepened. "I.. Really don't understand.."

"Them. They're so annoying." I put simply, and just ended the conversation abruptly as I walked up next to Leo. "Hey, Leo..." I whispered in his ear and he must've not noticed me as he flinched.

"Oh, hey Virgo. What's up?" He smiled lightly, a slight pink taking over his cheeks.

"Can you control your lustful stares towards the Snake? It's going to make me puke." I made a grimace to exaggerate how revolting it was to watch.

The light pink on his cheeks turned into full on flames on his face. "I... I don't understand what you're talking about!" He said quickly, then walked back to Taurus.

"Tch.." I went next to Ophiuchus who was focused ahead for any dangers. "Howcome you pay no attention to Leo?" I finally asked after some hesitation.

She glanced to me, huffing in annoyance. "Why do I need to answer to you, again?"

"Well, why not? If you don't like him, you should have no trouble answering." I smiled wryly, as she huffed again.

"He's just irritating. Why does he suddenly like me now? Since when? It's annoying." She grumbled.

"Can't you see how much he cares for you? He risked his ass for you back in the castle, the least you can do is thank him!" I snapped, her attitude has gotten her nowhere. She thinks she can just boss everyone around and expect people to do things for her. It's impractical and unrealistic.

"Thank him? I didn't ask nor need protecting from a crab!" She hissed, and slithered faster to get away from me. I let her, I just couldn't understand her too well.

•Virgo's past•

•Previous life, when she was around 13 years old•

"Don't force me please, mama.." I pleaded, as my adoptive mother simply had her hands on her hips and stared down at me. It was only 12pm, how could she do this to me already?

"You have to read or you won't get any smarter, now off you go, chop-chop." She said. She was nice, and so was papa. They had a large mansion with a rectangular pond right outside of the door. There were about 8 bedrooms, a drawing room, 2 living rooms(formal and informal), a kitchen, a dining room, an office, a huge library(which I despise) and a bathroom(it's downstairs, as all of the rooms have ensuites).

"Fine, mama.." I mumbled, and trudged off to the library.

My parents had left me here as they found themselves too poor to afford my needs. They left me to their good friends, Gerda and Fredrick(my adoptive parents). Although they say they were good friends, wouldn't someone as rich as these people give to my poor parents? It didn't make sense at all.

I took a book from the shelf, sat down at a table and began reading.

I suppose my love for reading came from this..

Once I had read a few pages, I was hooked and found myself continuing to read.

Fwip.

Fwip.

Fwip.

Before I knew it, I had finished the book and it was already 4pm. I walked back out with the book and sat on the long, dining table.

"You were reading a while, Virginia. Have you finally come to your senses about it?"

"Quite so, papa. Quite so."

I suppose some would say my life was easy compared to others, though, this is simply the tip of the iceberg to a much larger problem.

It was late night and everyone was asleep, except for me. I was reading with a lantern on my bedside table keeping the pages illuminated and visible.

Creak.

Creak.

Creak.

I slowly looked to my open door, my eyes widened as I saw a shadow of a man coming towards me. Arms outstretched. I screamed, although.. Before I knew it, a dagger was through my abdomen. Then another. And a third time's the charm. Blood gagged from my mouth, as I tried to scream, nothing came out except the thick, red liquid.

Tears gushed from my eyes as I realised who the man was. Papa. My real father.

•The Present•

I awoke as I sat up, cold sweat clung to my forehead. It was just a nightmare. It wouldn't happen again.

I looked to the sky, and easily recognised it as barely 2am, I had barely slept a few hours.. I sighed, sleeping really wasn't something I could do easily. I had insomnia due to my horrific past..

The past is the past, I tell myself daily, though I never did find the reason as to why my own father, my real father, would do that to me.. His daughter. It was more excrutiating trying to figure out the explanation behind it than the pain of having a dagger's blade through my stomach thrice times.

Everyone else was asleep. I guess I could keep watch.

I walked behind a tree within the forest, and slid behind it and sat, hugging my knees. I hummed to myself, maybe I was going insane after overthinking everything..

"Just think about keeping the others safe." I mumbled to myself, and stared ahead, into the dark abyss of the forest.
