The phone call went through, but there was no response from Tang Wan's end. Yang Chen thought the phone might be faulty, but he could hear faint breathing, indicating that Tang Wan was struggling to find the right words.
Yang Chen chuckled lightly. "What's this? Testing my hearing, to see if I can hear your breath?"
Finally, Tang Wan spoke up. "Are you... still angry?"
"Angry? When was I ever angry?" Yang Chen asked.
"Last time I wrongly accused you... I was too anxious at the time. I only found out what happened yesterday..." Tang Wan's voice was soft, almost timid, quite a departure from her usual assertiveness.
Yang Chen smiled. "It's good to know. I wasn't really angry."
"Then, can I invite you to dinner tomorrow? It's Christmas, consider it an apology," Tang Wan suggested.
"I have plans tomorrow. You're not at fault. I didn't know Tangtang was your daughter, otherwise, this wouldn't have happened," Yang Chen replied.
