Chapter 10 - Chapter 3

Over the coming days, with some reluctance, I finally unpacked all the things that Carter had brought over from Lamport. And as Mason said, I made myself at home. I finally found the library that Mason spoke of. It was impressive, although no one seemed to be using it. The thick layers of dust and cobwebs were enough to let me know that no one had set foot in it for quite some time.

With a heavy sigh, a plopped myself on the bed, ready to go to sleep. It was Sunday evening and the tutor will be at the house first thing in the morning. A giggle echoed through the corridor, and I was curious to see where it was coming from. Enid by now was asleep, and I was the only other woman in the house, well girl.

I slowly pushed myself off the bed and tiptoed my way to the door. Again my inquisitive nature got the best of me. It was none of my business, but I had to know. I turned on the door knob as quietly as I could and opened the door just enough to catch a glimpse of whoever was in the corridor.

On the opposite side of the corridor, Mason and a beautiful blond woman, with generous curves entered his room. When Mason turned around to shut the door, he caught a glimpse of me and my breath caught in my throat, busted. Without wasting any more time, I shut the door as quickly as I could and scrambled into bed, hugging the covers. Somehow I was afraid that Mason would get upset, for prying, but I knew he would scold me in his stiff manner first thing in the morning. He'd been gone for a few days, and it had been just me and Enid. Louis in Carter popped in just to check on things and then left. I liked having Enid around, she was sweet and gentle but always busy doing things around the house. I wanted to help, but she kept saying that I would get her in trouble with Mason if I would get sick again.

More giggles and laughter echoed from the other room, and kinda made me wonder how often Mason dropped his poker face, to make room for the laid-back Mason. With those thoughts in mind, I kinda drifted to sleep, floating on my dreams. Most of them weren't nice but I was grateful they weren't as terrible as before.

When I woke up in the morning it was still dark outside. I quickly glanced at the clock on the wall, it showed five thirty in the morning. Most likely everyone was still asleep. So I kinda made my way through the room to slowly get ready. I followed my usual morning routine, showering, and brushing my teeth and hair. I pulled on my usual attire since I seldom left the house. I never bothered with anything else. It was the usual trousers and a shirt. I was tall and thin, so my legs looked like two sticks in jeans and avoided them at all costs.

I puffed my cheeks to work up the courage to walk out of the room. I knew I would have to face Mason, and after he'd caught me peeking. I was dreading it.

When I opened the door, I sort of bumped foreheads with the beautiful blond that Mason was with the night before. She was just as shocked as I was, but she smiled and walked away with her shoes in her hand, looking rather dishevelled. It didn't take a genius to know what had gone on behind closed doors. I had most certainly read plenty of books about it and fantasised about it more times than I could count. Despite my hermit life, I was still a teenager full of raging hormones. There was no doubt about that.

I watched the frazzled blond walk out of the door and glanced at Mason's door, but I didn't wait for him to come out. That would make things even weirder than they already were.

When I stepped into the kitchen, Enid was slaving away as per usual, making breakfast. I was a bit at odds with myself. On the one hand, I was dreading seeing Mason but on the other hand, I couldn't wait to see him.

" Good morning, darling. You're up early" Enid greeted me with the same candid smile, while she stirred in the porridge.

" Good morning, Enid" I greeted and made my way to the stove drawn by the smell of bacon and eggs. That was enough to make drool. I was hungry.

" The tutor is coming this morning. No more lazying around." I amusedly said, flipping one rasher of bacon on the grill, hoping that Enid wouldn't notice.

" Ahah" Enid tutted me " You're playing with fire dear. Mason is at home. After last time, he wouldn't be very pleased to see playing cook in the kitchen" Enid's eyebrows furrowed but it didn't stay like that for long, and a smile broke on her plump, cracked lips.

I sighed and placed the fork back on the side " Fine. I'll go sit. I can make coffee. It's not hard or dangerous. I can easily do that." I bargained, hoping that I'd able to do something to fill my time until the tutor got here.

Enid nodded " Alright, but be quick. Mason will show up any minute now." Enid cautioned as I made my way to the cupboard, rummaging for the coffee tin.

" At what time is the tutor coming?" Enid asked as she poured the porridge into bowls, and placed them in the oven to keep it warm.

" Carter said he would be here at 8:30. I'm looking forward to going back to my studies," I glanced at Enid who was finishing up placing the bacon and sausages onto a plate, along with eggs. She'd made quite a spread.

" That's quite a spread." I voice out my thoughts, pushing down the lid on the coffee maker.

Enid hummed, stifling a smile " Mason works up quite an appetite when he has a guest over." I bet he does, I thought to myself.

" I see," I innocently said, picking up a rasher of bacon off the plate, knawing on it.

Enid gave me a pointed look " Young lady, that is no way to behave. Sit down at the table, and grab a plate. You're not a savage" Enid lightly scolded, amusement dancing in her eyes.

" You will get me in trouble if Mason finds out that I haven't taught you proper manners," Enid added placing a plate on the kitchen island.

" Use that," she said pointing at the plate " And this" She placed knife and fork on the table, a little miffed at my behaviour.
