Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

When I turned around and wanted to go back downstairs, I heard a sound like a door opening, and when I looked, it turned out to be Jenny opening her room door.

"Yawn... What's up? It's still morning," Jenny asked, rubbing her eyes.

"Ah... sorry for disturbing, I just wanted to check on Maria's condition."

"She's still asleep. Last night, I asked someone else to throw a party so that Maria wouldn't be sad all the time. You know how that incident affected the mind of a 15-year-old, especially since she witnessed with her own eyes how people in her village were brutally killed," Jenny explained.

"Yeah, that's why I wanted to ask about her condition, but it seems she's still asleep," I said, glancing into Jenny's room.

"Don't worry, she'll stay here. I'll take care of her. I'm going back to sleep," Jenny said to me as she went back into her room.

After making sure Maria was fine, I went back downstairs, cleaning the bar as usual, washing all the glasses and dishes, and as usual, the only ones left from last night's crowd were Max and Reid.

The two of them were like brothers who always slept together, the only difference being the fate of their wallets, or rather, their money.

Reid himself was a member of this union and at the same time, he was one of the many level 7 warriors in the kingdom who were tasked with maintaining peace within the kingdom, like the police. That's why he was always lazy here because he had no financial problems since all the kingdom's soldiers would be given money every day.

It was the complete opposite for Max. I myself haven't gotten to know him well because so far we've only talked a few times, but from what I know, Max is a single man who still hangs his life on jobs given by the bar.

That's why the two of them looked like brothers because they always stayed here every night, but they looked contrasting because one of them had no financial problems while the other one always struggled with finances.

After finishing all my tasks, as usual, I went to Jenny's bar table and brewed a glass of milk. Personally, I preferred milk over coffee because it just tasted better, as simple as that HAHAHA.

I saw Reid starting to wake up, rubbing his eyes, then waking up Max who was still sound asleep. The two of them then walked and sat in front of me, and as I suspected, they wanted me to make them coffee.

"So... what are your plans for today?" Reid asked me.

"I think I'll train again all day, starting with running around the walls of the kingdom," I replied.

"Are you serious? Don't you know that this kingdom is really vast? If you start running now, you might come back here when it's already nighttime," Max explained to me.

"I've planned to improve my stamina first because when Victor tested my physical endurance yesterday, I felt that my stamina wasn't large enough to match it. I even felt extremely tired just from that test, and that doesn't include running back here again," I answered.

"I understand, so you mean you want to improve your stamina first so that when you train with the others, you can train for longer, right?" Reid asked.

"Well, yes," I replied.

After finishing my drink, I hurried to clean everything and glanced at my wall clock. It showed 8:14 in the morning. I prepared myself and said goodbye to Reid and Max to start running around the walls of the kingdom.

First, I ran towards the kingdom's gate because honestly, the view outside the walls was more appealing to me than the view inside the walls because as far as the eye could see, only buildings and houses were visible here.

It was the complete opposite of the life outside the walls, where the view was incredibly beautiful. The sky looked so clear with not a single cloud in sight, but a gentle breeze blew, dissipating the heat even though the sky was so bright.

Moreover, the lush green grass fields and colorful flowers were sights you couldn't see within the kingdom's walls. I ran along the footpaths, passing through several villages outside the kingdom's walls.

In one area, there were numerous trees bearing various fruits. In another area, there were many peculiar animals enclosed within fences, being fed by humans, and I believed those strange animals were livestock.

And now I arrived at the eastern side of the kingdom; I could tell because I started running across a bridge above the river. The day was getting hotter, and I was truly exhausted. I took a short break under a tree near the river, and after resting, I walked towards the river and drank its water.

I had no worries at all when drinking water from the river because as far as I knew about this world, the river was intentionally preserved in its natural state to serve as a water source for the kingdom.

As I was about to continue my training, my stomach began to growl, indicating that my body needed something to eat. I ran back, and not far from the river, I saw a house with numerous apple trees. I sprinted towards the house and asked the owner of the apple orchard for permission to take two apples.

And it seemed like today was my lucky day because the owner gave me apples that they had picked earlier in the morning.

Wait a minute, earlier this morning?

"Excuse me, sir, what time is it now?" I asked the owner of the orchard.

He told me that it was already 1:45 in the afternoon. No wonder the temperature was getting hotter, and the day was getting brighter because it was already noon. I bid farewell to the orchard owner and continued running while eating the apples.

Time indeed flew by quickly. I hadn't even reached halfway around the kingdom's walls, but the day was getting darker. The lighting around the kingdom's walls was still quite bright, but it seemed that my running speed was not enough to circle the kingdom in a day.

However, my curiosity still envelops my thoughts. I wonder where I will end up if I keep running until it's completely dark. I decided to start running again, following the path that already had streetlights to illuminate the way.

During the journey, I realized that I seemed to be able to withstand hunger in this world. Since last night, I haven't eaten anything. As far as I can remember, I only had milk in the morning and went straight to training.

During this training, my stomach felt hungry. However, when I ate an apple, the hunger instantly disappeared. Usually, when hungry and haven't eaten anything, I would feel extremely dizzy when tired, but I didn't feel it at all.

Could it be that I was reborn into this world with special abilities?

When I first arrived in this world, I did feel like my body was incredibly light, as if there was no burden at all. I could even escape from those monkey-like creatures in the forest.

However, primates like them should have strength and speed surpassing humans, shouldn't they?

But as far as I remember, one of them had a larger body than the others. Moreover, he could speak and wield a very large sword. Perhaps he possesses intelligence like humans?

I remember my conversation with Jenny when we first met. She mentioned that in this world, there are five races with the largest populations. Besides our human race, there are four other races: elves, orcs, goblins, and chatterbeasts. I know what the other four races look like because I enjoy playing video games. However, the chatterbeast race is what still intrigues me because I've never come across that race in any of the games I've played.

Could it be that the monkey-like creature is a chatterbeast? Do chatterbeasts choose forests as their dwelling place? This is just my assumption since I remember the word 'beast' in 'chatterbeast'.

I have so many thoughts swirling in my mind that I unintentionally end up circling around this kingdom's walls. I walk back towards the kingdom's gate, but unfortunately, I see that the gate is closed. No one informed me that the gate has opening and closing hours.

"Excuse me, sir," I shout to the gatekeeper standing on the wall.

They notice my presence down below.

"If you have any business, please come back tomorrow, and make sure you don't come at this hour, young one!" says the gatekeeper.

"Sorry, sir, I'm not an outsider. I live in Bar Eldoria with Jennifer. Do you know her?" I ask.

"Are you talking about the one who always causes trouble at night?" they inquire.

"Uh... y-yes," I reply.

I see them exchanging glances and discussing something. After a few minutes, one of them descends, and the gate opens.

"Come in, young one. Next time, make sure you return before closing time," says the gatekeeper who opened the gate.

"Sorry, sir. If I may ask, what time is it now?" I inquire.

"It's currently 2 in the morning. What were you doing outside the walls at this hour?" the gatekeeper scolds.

I can only apologize to the gatekeeper.
