Chapter 4 - CHAPTER FOUR: The Accident.

Then, with a last glance about her, Lan Chunhua got hold of one of the suitcases and led the way out of the flat. Her husband followed and together they preceded their daughters out of the flat. Chow Yi Nuo was the last to leave. She turned at the doorway, stood for a long moment looking back into the room that she had seen for all her childhood. Then, with tears in her eyes, firmly closed the door and followed the others down the flight of stairs.

Minutes later, when all of them were settled in the  four carrier minivan that Chow Mingze owned, the journey began in earnest. Father and mother sat in the front seat while the girls shared the back seat with the foodstuffs. The two lorries snaked ahead of them.

The car slowly pulled up at the T Junction, through the freshly washed windscreen, Chow Mingze peered into the highway; looking to his left and then his right. Chow Mingze did not see anything in the distance so pulled out.  Suddenly out of nowhere a white Nissan Stagea was zooming through the highway from his right. Chow Mingze's simple mistake was instantly regretted, he knew the crash was inevitable.

At that moment Chow Yi Nuo's and Chow Xin Yi's hearts stopped as they looked at each other in distress. Now everything seemed slower as if time itself had seized moreover, nothing could be heard other than the drumming of their hearts. Precisely before the cars contacted each other, Chow Mingze turned his head to face his daughters Chow Yi Nuo and Chow Xin Yi, who looked back at him with their innocent faces.Chow Mingze took a deep breath and pressed the breaks, but deep inside he knew it was too late.  Crash, the clash between the two metal-beast ended in a devastating turn of events; the windows shattering and metal screech as they tore apart.

.........

Chow Mingze had jerked the steering wheel tightly, and the tires folded beneath them. His head shattered the windshield, then the sound of crushing filled the silence. Gravity betrayed Chow Yi Nuo and forced her head into the roof of the car. A sharp migraine formed near the back of her head, and her ears started to ring. Although her vision blurry, she saw her sister's head hit the glass and it shuttered instantly, the glass shards flew into the air and made their way into her skin. It was very painful and she groaned in pain. She then looked at her father, his head was bleeding, her mother, her head was also bleeding. Metal tucked under itself and crunched against the pressure of the ground. Chow Yi Nuo's elbow was thrown mercilessly into the glass window beside her. She had become the car's marionette. It plucked all of her strings haphazardly, obviously lacking any sympathy as it threw the contents of the car with her and her companions. There was not anything to slow her from being propelled against the back window. Glass shards were thrown into the violent tumble, carving the memory into her brain. Chow Yi Nuo slowly closed her eyes as dizziness filled her head.
