Chapter 7 - 6. Viimeinen. ( The Last One.)

Eventually, Adam said he wanted to see this or see this janitor now, and Bran agreed and said: "I'll come with you. The three of us will go and question this janitor. Besides, I've already told my other son to learn everything he can about this establishment."

The vampires told the wolves about the bar where this janitor had been, and the men prepared to gather information.

Bran told Adam, "Hauptmann, I'll assume then that you will restrain yourself from attacking that idiot, no matter what he says about anyone."

Adam looked at Bran and said calmly, "Don't worry, old wolf, I'll control myself. You just concentrate on controlling yourself so no one gets an accidental aneurysm when you get nervous. "

Adam looked at the vampires and said, "Bran has the ability to influence humans, to make veins burst in their brains. And he worries about my temper.."

Samuel said: "From what I've heard about those institutions, they are not nice places. I've had a couple of werewolves in my care since they were rescued from the facility, and unfortunately, they both died. These torturers are ruthless and cruel. These experiments and tests often have nothing to do with helping people but are more about examining the weaknesses of werewolves and others to use weapons against them. Now I don't know what they have done to Mimi, and I can't guarantee what condition she is in, whether she can be saved or whether she is in such terrible shape that..."

Nicholas said: "That won't happen to our friend. Our blood will help; we can give it away, though a vampire's blood heals a lot and doesn't make anyone a vampire. The way vampires were made in the series that's not exactly true. It has its own thing going for it that there's no fear that if she got our blood, she would soon be a vampire."

Adam said: "Does she have a name?"

"Actually, we haven't talked about it much. We called her Mimi; she had her own name, but when these bad guys killed her identity in Finland, and everyone believed she was dead, there was no hope of her coming back to Finland under her own name. Mimi Springcove. She made it up herself, and we were just about to get her papers under that name when she was kidnapped," Nicholas said.

"Mimi," Adam said.

"Only human, but special. Really special and a pretty damn funny personality. She had wonderful stories about her dogs and cats. She made me feel young again. I mean, she was 60 years old when she was kidnapped, but she's so damn innocent, so fragile in a way, and somehow that makes me want to defend and protect her," Nicholas said.

"Like I said, she was brainwashed or programmed, what you want to call the process, to kill me. She had a poisoned stake, and I've never smelled such poison. But I could smell the combination of drugs, and I knew the fucking psychiatrist was on the case. "Nick explained.

"She must have smelled the drugs for two weeks before all the drugs were out of her system. They were something long-lasting, and we kept her asleep by compulsion so that the drugs started to go out when we unloaded the programming, which was a long process—by the time she was lucid, nine weeks had passed. We have her blood in the freezer, but I don't know if the meds stayed in it. We have a blood sample packed in ice in the car if you want to test it. If it's any good now, we took it with us as evidence in case you didn't believe it. " Elias spoke, in his calm manner, not letting his inner beast show at all.

Samuel said: "Yeah, I can already look at it here; freezing changes the chemistry, but if there were that many drugs in it, there should be traces. Drugs and metabolites don't change that much in the freezer, but I want to smell it if I can even tell you directly who would be using these drugs."

Nick got a cooler from the car with four blood tubes in it. He handed one tube to Samuel, who sniffed the icy blood and grimaced.

"Sniff this, Bran, and it really smells like a fucking pharmaceutical. How on earth could this individual have even moved or functioned in such a sea of drugs? If a normal person's blood smelled like this, that person would be in or heading to the morgue. These are fucking strong synthetic drugs, nothing on the market, so that pretty much narrows it down. Whoever this is is not a nice guy, and this one is not well-intentioned. One of these drugs even gets me in a rage, and it's not easy to make me lose my temper."

Bran sniffed the tube and sneezed. "Yuck, yes, there is an apothecary, a miracle indeed. So this person can live on this amount of drugs and survive on it. One would have thought that this amount of such powerful drugs would have already broken down her psyche. Indeed, this girl must be a very special and powerful individual."

Elias held out another vial. "This is a week later. She was still out of it, but somehow, we felt that the programming wouldn't have held without these drugs because when the drugs broke down, the programming started to break down because of her. It was as if the drugs were blocking her own action against the programming."

Samuel said: "Still incredible doses. I take these blood samples for myself, let them thaw, and then try to identify at least some of the drugs. But because they are synthetic preparations, they don't have trade names, but I start looking to see if there are any patents applied to them and if any drug trials are going on with these substances." He stood up, took the tubes of blood and walked away for a bit.

The vampires looked at each other and nodded. "That drug smell was probably the only thing that kept me from drinking Mimi dry when she came to our door. She smelled really weird, and at first, I wondered if she was sent by one of our enemies or one of my crazy ex-girlfriends." Nick said.

Samuel returned and said: "I'd certainly like to examine this woman if we manage to rescue her. There is something extraordinary about her, and she may even be the key to some diseases. She is a medical miracle. Is she then some kind of mutant? How did they originally take this Mimi as a victim?"

Elias replied. "Mimi remembers one doctor bragging to another about how they had been monitoring commercial DNA banks and apps. Mimi herself had sent a sample of herself to a company a month earlier. It was some kind of health-related offer. They were studying susceptibility to various diseases and the effectiveness of drugs. Mimi sent them a sample of her buccal cells and a couple of tubes of blood, as the instructions had said. She was waiting for the results when she was kidnapped. But without a doubt, Mimi's data from the company's servers has been wiped clean. And probably Mimi's samples either robbed or destroyed."

Adam cursed." I am a security consultant and have helped many such companies. They usually have lousy firewalls, and their cyber security is non-existent. In fact, it's only been a few months since one of these companies or their buildings was destroyed in a fire, and all the data and samples were destroyed. I remember an incident when it wasn't our client, but we got several companies to ask for help to store the data and the samples in another location. When this company went belly up and had to pay out some pretty damn big settlements in court to these people whose data or samples were destroyed. And I guess it wasn't just a coincidence."

Bran added: "Let's not forget that our wonderful government sometimes collaborates with these people to find werewolves or witches, for example. Some people would like to have a register of the super-naturals so that none of us can hide and then publicity on top of that, but there are laws in place. But some in government are not on the right side, and supposedly, there are people in there who have access to secret, dirty money, drug money, and so on, and with that, they fund all sorts of shady and illegal projects. But that's just a rumor for now."

Nick looked at his phone, which beeped. "Showtime boys. I used mind control and got the bartender to tell me when this janitor would be back. He says it was his day off, and he came to the bar to have some fun. What do you say, boys? Shall we go in for a bit of interrogation? You'll see this intelligent guy in action, and I think you'll get all you need out of it. "

Bran, Adam, and Samuel got up, and the vampires followed them. They got into one of the SUVs and drove 15 kilometers to the club. The vampires discovered that there was an easier way out of Marrok's village than the fucking cart path they had come down.

Samuel said, "That's my dad's way of weeding out unwanted visitors," he said. "Look who's driving that road. They must really need to get here. Two out of three turn around and take care of their own problems. You were under surveillance the whole time. This forest is full of wild werewolves. They don't belong to any pack; they live mostly in pairs or alone, but they told Bran you were coming and where you were coming from. "

Nick said nothing. He was actually surprised at Bran's reluctance to meet strangers, but then again, when he heard all the North American wolves in his mind, it might explain the need to be hidden.

When they arrived, they got out of the car and went to one of the tables to sit and observe. The janitor was in a boisterous mood, trying to grope the waiters and tell his exploits with the lunatics to anyone who would listen.

Bran said, "I'm going to the bar now to order drinks. Let's see if I can hook a fish. He's not a giant of intellect, and the way he talks about those people in the institution is creepy. It is like he doesn't see them as individuals, just as guinea pigs."

Bran walked over to the bar and ordered himself a Jack Daniels. The janitor came up next to him and started bragging and fucking Bran, almost.

He said, " You're not human. You're a werewolf. I know you people, you dog. Oh, that I could get you on the floor quick and you wouldn't get anywhere. I know what I'm doing, and a boy like you, well, you wouldn't last long where I work. You'd be dead pretty quick. You're weak."

Adam, Samuel, and the vampires watched for a while as Bran ignored the provocation and sipped his drink.

Bran looked at the janitor for a moment and said, "Appearances can deceive, but I don't want to be there, which is what you're talking about. What do you do for a living? Are you a guard or something? When you talk about how, you can control everyone."

"No, I'm a janitor and a bit of a guard; look where I work; they need a good man; there are crazy people there. You wouldn't believe what I've seen, and there's no patient in there with a name, so I'm not breaking any confidentiality laws when I don't know who the targets are." The man explained enthusiastically.

Bran asked, "You work in a mental hospital, don't you? You talk about crazy people and lunatics and who knows what."

Bran deliberately kept his voice a little bored and arrogant, as if he couldn't care less about the man. He didn't take his booze-fuelled ramblings seriously, nor did anyone in the bar.

"Not when it's one of those secret laboratories where they test everything. You know, you don't believe the tests. They do the drug cocktails. These scientists can get a subject to rage with just a drug, and that's the point. This one doctor studies rage in different creatures, and humans are an excellent subject to study. He wants to see what a human can do if it's really raging."

Man's voice slurred a bit. He was that drunk, but eager to brag.

"Well, there are quite a few subjects in this treatment, and then they attack the poor nurses, and that's where they need me. One woman there she's small, about 155 cm, and probably doesn't weigh much. I don't know if she's a druggie, but she's not all there. She's got the strength of three men, and she's killed people there because she's not taken seriously. This doctor's favorite thing to do is to get her mad; she escapes from all sorts of restraints, and this doctor wants to get her mad almost all the time and then tries to find a way to control her."

He talked and noticed nothing wrong around him. Adam's eyes flashed a brief yellowish hue.

"Well, her appearance doesn't always give you a reason to take her seriously, but as soon as someone gets another metal pipe in their stomach from an IV stand, they take it as a threat; she's medicated like a zombie, but if they don't remember to give her the drugs in time...".

The man dragged his finger across his throat

Bran said: "If she's so strong, what can you do to her? The girl, that is. So why would you risk your life if she's such a crazy killer? "

The guard said: "When I jump on her, I'm stronger and heavier. She won't get out from under me until they give her the medicine again. You just have to be clever when you get a girl down and give them a spot where they can inject her. Then you just have to wait for her to limp properly before you get up. "

The man seemed proud of his contribution.

Samuel got up from the table and went to the bar to talk to the man. " What kind of drugs do they use there, and do patients die from those experiments? Are there only people there? And is it a really secret place?"

Samuel's voice was curious and interested, and the janitor said, " It's an old factory, actually, no one thinks it's a research facility now, it's not official, but the pay is fucking great and I do good work there. Yes, people do die there; they don't just do research for rage, and sometimes something goes wrong, and then... Well, there's a good incinerator, no evidence, and when the targets are the ones, they're not even looking for. Some targets have been wiped out of existence, so electronically so they can use these individuals as much as they want, but they're particularly interested in catching werewolves. They haven't got the right ones yet, well they've caught a couple of girlies, but there's a project and they're not up for it."

Adam and the vampires watched the conversation for a moment, and then Adam gestured to the waitress and ordered beers for the three of them. Samuel and Bran played well together. Soon, they had information about the place, part of the floor plan, and security in general.

They poured the man drinks at a steady pace, knowing just how to argue with him, that he was revealing important details that would be very helpful in the rescue. Bran and Samuel started to get pretty furious when the janitor described some bodies he'd had to take to the incinerator, but the men kept their rage firmly under control.

Bran was already starting to form a plan, but it would need a little more refinement. Bran sent all the information to his other son, Charles, who began searching the city archives for floor plans and researching the facility's staff. Charles was fantastic with computers, almost a hacker, so finding the information was pretty much effortless for him.

Bran told Charles to find and research everything he could by nightfall, so Charles drove close to the facility and easily turned into a wolf. Charles' mother had been a witch, so her magical powers allowed Charles to transform in an instant. Charles was also the only werewolf that was born, not made. Charles spent his time exploring, finding trails, and telling his father about them all the time as he explored.

The men returned from the bar to Bran's home at almost midnight. They had gotten the watchman really drunk, and then the vampires had compelled him to reveal himself to the women, and the cops arrested him pretty soon. That man would probably lose his job when this came out and it could be that he would sing information to the police about the place too. Bran wasn't quite sure of that, but it was a good try, nonetheless.

Charles had preliminary inspected the place and confirmed what Bran thought was a good rescue plan. They would infiltrate the facility from below. The facility was built on top of old mines, and the guard said the tunnels were rarely used. It would be safe to walk through, and the tunnels were used as break rooms for workers, storage facilities, and so on. That would be their entrance.

The tunnels had several service hatches and a lift to the normal floor. One service hatch would lead directly to the floor where Mimi was supposedly being held. That would be their route into the facility. The only problem was that they would have to walk almost 20 kilometers through the tunnel; Mimi probably could not walk, so they would have to develop some form of transport. The easiest way would be as a wolf, and they would have a distinct advantage. They would be stronger, faster, and more durable, and 20 kilometers was no distance for a wolf to travel.

Samuel, Charles, Adam, Bran, and the vampires went through the plan for two weeks. They were looking for more information, and then it turned out that the janitor had mysteriously died in prison, apparently of alcohol poisoning, shortly after he had talked about the facility. It told Bran that these people were serious and this should be planned properly, so that's why they went through the plan for two weeks, even though Nick didn't even want to think about what was being done to Mimi the whole time.

Nick and Elias would not go into the tunnels but would wait outside in the car, ready to go because Charles would be the only one who could turn into a human right away, so drivers would be needed to drive them out. Charles would have to help the wolves into the car and Mimi into the car, so the driver would have to be ready to go right away. Plus, the vampires would notice if anyone approached or if there was any suspicious activity. They had that much experience and could deal with the occasional threat themselves if it came up.

They would have one more addition to the rescue plan. Adam's ex-wife, Mercy. She had died in a terrible accident, but she had done what she had to do, so she had a choice: either peace or a new existence. Adam had hoped that Mercy would have chosen peace and happiness.

Mercy had risen to a higher plane of existence, so she was a ghost of sorts. She would be able to help with this because Mimi would one day be chaos, just as Mercy had once been. Mimi would just become much more powerful. Mercy had permission from above to help with this. Adam didn't want to face Mercy or talk to Mercy. The less they had to do together, the better. Somehow, Adam felt Mercy had betrayed them, their love because she had risen to this higher level at Bran's request.
