Chapter Twelve
T O R T : BOOHOOING AND HOODOOING
Mikael quickly entered his room with Lambert hot on his heels. He was sweating. As Mikael pulled at his cape and latches he began to undress. Lambert entered the room with him and slammed the door behind her.
The wood did not appreciate her enthusiasm.
"I can't believe you."
Divinity. Mikael could feel her soul brighten.
She was pissed.
"Kina would have killed you for this."
Mikael gritted his teeth.
Lambert was five when she joined their party. Lambert may be twenty-one now, but she was unfortunately an SSS class healer that became a child soldier during a war they were all forced to fight in.
Their god, Lux, was to thank for their entire survival during that war thanks to her divinity.
Mikael kept removing his overly complex attire as Lambert went on.
"We both know what happens to those who are tortured-"
Mikael got a bit heated.
"He was not tortured."
"Did you forget you were left in isolation for three days and are still feeling the effects of it to this day?"
Mikael paused in removing his cloak. His hands tensed.
"Six months. Six months Mikael, six months."
Her voice sounded broken.
Mikael was aware that, though Lambert could be hot headed and prone to sharp words, she was, and has always been passionate about the health and wellbeing of others. Especially from those she considers family.
So when she paused and covered her face Mikael had to turn away and face the wall. The sun was a quarter up the sky.
"That woman loved that boy with her entire soul."
She held him day and night with eyes that could only see her child and her sun. He was everything to her. Her world, her light, her legacy. She would do anything for him. Mikael watched the love of his life love their son as fiercely as he loved her. It was beautiful to see, and he was glad he was able to make it happ-
"When you came to me after his assassination incident and told me everything, I was at a loss. And after all that, after everything I know now that I've seen him, met him, you just… You asked me if there is a way to get him back? To return to normal? Are you mad?"
Mikael turned and looked to see Lambert's eyes go gold. The air around the city became heavy. Those who know now know a god has descended down.
Mikael was forced to kneel.
"Praise Lux."
"It seems my little prophet almost broke a commandment."
Lux looked around the room.
"He will never be the Osiris you remember."
"But-"
"Did I stutter?"
Mikaels face was shoved to the ground. The weight was back breaking. Lux began to walk around the room.
"The boy you know is dead. Gone."
Lux paused at a broken pin. She wondered if it was important.
"Isn't this what you wanted when you sent the boy away?"
Lux paused at the King's dresser. Little knick knacks from his other children laid about. A dried flower, a painted rock, a tooth. Lux picked up the incisor and held it up to view.
"Did you not hit the boy to scare him so badly that he would never think to do that again?"
Mikael could only grit his teeth.
There was no point lying to a god.
"Some of your thoughts at the time were filthy, disgusting, tainted, nasty, repulsiv-"
"Please stop."
"-e. What I find funny is that you even have a friend who is-"
"Stop."
Mikael was holding his head so tightly his nails broke skin.
"-like that."
Lux put down the tooth.
"I guess it is all okay when it is someone else."
Mikael ground his head on the tile.
"I can't fault you too much."
The god moved towards the bed.
"You humans have complex sociological civilizations and love to make your own rules for things, so I guess what you did is considered normal, for this Kingdom, that is."
Lux stopped and took a seat.
"Where one culture celebrates, another mourns. You chose to mourn and in turn, your actions have led you here."
Lux looked out the window. Her little prophet was finally calm.
"Do not ask what you know is impossible for my prophet to do."
Then the God was gone.
"…I used to look up to you. When I saw how much you cared and loved Kina I couldn't help but hope to meet someone like you and be a person who could love someone that strongly despite what we have all been through."
Lambert closed her eyes as tears began to fall.
"And the one thing she left us, the only thing we have left of her, you…"
Lambert whipped her face angrily before getting up.
"I'll check on the boy tomorrow."
Lambert did not look at Mikael, who was still on the floor, as she left.
It was some time before Mikael got up.
It started with a vase. Then a picture, then the furniture. Mikael tore apart his entire room, destroying everything in it.
No one dared to enter.
