Lu Dongbin, one of the best known legends in historical folklore, was the scholar of the eight immortals, with a legendary story told throughout time.
He acquired his immortality from the deities of the immortal realm centuries of years ago. No one could figure out the valid story of how and why the gods bestowed immortality upon him, but he was said to have faced ten trials which he successfully completed, therefore earning him his immortality.
He was dressed as a scholar and thus, honored as such, as he was a scholar in the mortal realm before he retained his immortality.
He was also said to have learned the secrets of Taoism from Zhuang Lin Quan.
His talisman used as his emblem was a double edged sword also known as the demon slayer and a fly brush.
