Chapter 4 - Admission Test(1)

There was a faint blood-red air surrounding Chao Feng as the spiritual energy surged throughout his veins and charged into his dantian, permeating through its thin walls and eventually increasing the amount of spiritual energy by a small amount while also taking him one step further towards the Martial Servant realm.

As the energy surges through the veins, the veins and the body are strengthened greatly, Chao Feng could even feel some slight changes to his physique.

For this one surge of energy, he had cultivated for an entire day. He stopped cultivating as to not accumulate physical and mental fatigue and instead he opted to sleep and continue training the next day, this time he would need to work on his combat techniques.

The admission test involved students being released into a nearby forest to fight against beasts, it was a test of their combat skills and their cultivation level.

Humans are the most advanced life form in terms of knowledge, technology, etc, but in strength, beasts and humans are comparable.

This is because beasts also have the ability to cultivate, and it is even more proficient than humans. Beasts are born with a dantian, it is a certain adaptation while humans have to forcefully awaken their dantian, this means that between a seventeen year old human and a seventeen year old beast, there would be no competition. The beast had seventeen years to cultivate, while the human would have had ten at the maximum.

Humans are extremely arrogant, but it is completely unwarranted. Arrogance is reserved for the weak who need to cope, understanding your flaws, working on them and improving is reserved for the strong who need to get stronger.

Chao Feng fell into a deep sleep almost instantly, dreaming about cultivation.

When he awoke, morning had just dawned upon the Lower Chaotic Realm. He got up and ran to the surrounding area of the academy, where there was a sizeable pavilion.

"Hello, child. May I know your name, cultivation level and age?" An old man with a walking stick suddenly appeared in front of Chao Feng.

"Chao Feng, first rank of Martial Origin realm, seventeen years old."

Seventeen years old and only at the first rank of the Martial Origin realm, he has absolutely no future. The old man shook his head inwardly, but still smiled on the outside.

"Please proceed to the ground floor, where there are Origin-level Martial Techniques."

"Thank you." Chao Feng bowed and entered the pavilion, noticing three large bookshelves on the ground floor.

He examined the bookshelves for a total of an hour before he came across a skill he believed suited him well.

The skill was called Soaring Heavenly Blade, and required a sword to use.

The skill had three stages, and once the user's understanding of the skill reached the peak of their current stage, it would break through to the next stage.

The first stage, the only stage that Chao Feng could access information on at the moment, was called Sword Strike, it was a basic sword strike but it drew external energy from heaven into it, amplifying its effects greatly.

"Hm, Soaring Heavenly Blade is an extremely hard skill to gain proficiency in, if you are trying to raise your strength quickly, this is not suitable." The old man shook his head and advised against it.

"I see. One day, I will come back to get it once I can take cultivation slower, thank you, sir." Chao Feng bowed and placed the book back, looking for another hour before he found a book that was hidden behind another book.

It was called Unrivalled Sword of Purity.

The name alone was enough to attract Chao Feng and two hours had already passed so before inspecting it, he rushed to the old man.

"This skill, even I do not know this skill. From the name alone and the aura, it seems like a great skill. I recommend you take it." The old man was confused when he saw the book.

"Thank you very much, sir!" Chao Feng bowed and was about to leave before the old man called out to him.

"Wait! How will you practise a sword technique without a sword? You kids are too impatient." The old man raised his hand a sword appeared in it, it was long and sharp.

"This is a longsword, in my opinion, it is by far the best kind of sword. Use it well."

The old man gave him the sword and saw him off, muttering.

"This kid… If he had talent, maybe he could be something special. His manners are a realm above everyone else, they all call me old man while he calls me sir. I will nurture him from the shadows, maybe he has some hidden talent."

Chao Feng walked through the garden before he found a cave to practise in. There was a tree beside the cave which he could use to practise his sword technique and the cave could be used to meditate and read the skill book.

First, he read the skill book. Then he went to the tree to practise. He repeated this process a few times until he was finally able to grasp the skill.

"Cultivation and meditation draws in spiritual energy. To draw it in, one has to be in the mindset of meditation while being in the physical state of executing the skill, this is the true difficulty. At this moment, I can only execute the mindset of meditation, I have managed to draw spiritual energy into my sword. Now, I need to focus on the two aspects separately before I can combine them and achieve the full effect of the skill." Chao Feng evaluated his ability.

Having the mindset of meditation meant to have the same state of mind as when you are meditating, in any other case, this would not have any profound effect and no energy would be drawn in. The skill allowed one to draw energy in using this mindset, but it was only possible when the cultivator had the intent of carrying out the technique, this really was a profound Martial Technique.

Chao Feng practised until one hour before the admission test, and at that point, he could barely use the physical and mental aspects of the technique simultaneously, creating an effect with less than ten percent of the original intended effect.

This was great for such a hard technique and only around a day's worth of work.

Now, Chao Feng had a little more confidence in being able to pass the test. Upon passing the test, one would become an outer disciple of the Black Dragon Academy, gaining the lowest amount of benefits. However, since Chao Feng was from the Chao Divine Clan, he would be able to gain benefits equivalent to an inner disciple. That was only if he passed this time, if he failed and tried again, his benefits would be the same as everyone else.

"I need to pass!" Chao Feng's eyes had a blood-red glow to them as he walked to the main building with determination.
