Chapter 5 - Daughter Chu Ziluo

Chu Heng carried in the leftover noodles from last night.

The noodles weren't white at all, a bit on the darker side. Ye Muyu knew this was a kind of chopped buckwheat noodle, coarse in texture, not like the refined buckwheat noodles from her past life. This was clearly the kind of rough grain only seen in the countryside.

Chu Heng walked in and saw the dishes arranged on the table. Noticing Ye Muyu only pretending to eat pickles, he remarked coldly, "You can afford eggs. Why only have pickles in front of you?"

His words were full of sarcasm.

Ye Muyu frowned slightly. Why were ancient people so hard to deal with?

Chu Ziluo and Chu Jin dared not reach out their chopsticks to grab dishes. They carefully observed the expressions of the two adults.

"I can reach all the dishes." Ye Muyu replied casually, hinting that Chu Heng was overthinking it.

Sure enough, Chu Heng's expression turned dark. He ate his noodles in silence, but everyone could feel the displeasure radiating from him.

Ye Muyu remained very calm, helped the two children peel their eggs, and placed them in their bowls. Under the children's surprised gazes, she said softly, "Eat up."

Chu Ziluo, hearing it was indeed Mother who spoke, obediently buried her head to eat.

Chu Jin glanced secretly at Chu Heng, noticing Father hadn't gotten angry, and quickly devoured the eggs, half at a time.

Chu Heng watched his eldest daughter bury her head in her bowl, not daring to grab any dishes, while his son was daring, too daring in fact, with no eating etiquette. Rice fell onto the table.

Anger welled up in him.

"Ziluo, lift your head and take some dishes."

"Chu Jin, pick up all the grains of rice by your table and eat them."

Chu Heng's voice was stern. Chu Jin turned pale with fright and lowered his head to pick up the scattered rice and feed it into his mouth.

Chu Ziluo's hands trembled as she went to grab dishes.

Ye Muyu frowned slightly, feeling Chu Heng was too harsh. Clearly, this person didn't have a good impression of her; rashly speaking up might ruin the meal.

So she said nothing, occasionally picking dishes for the two children.

Perhaps with Chu Heng, the 'stern father,' present, the meal was eaten unusually quickly, bringing a new experience.

Chu Ziluo, rarely eating so much, carefully touched her belly, afraid of being noticed.

Chu Jin, nervously trembling all over, was watched by Chu Heng the entire time. His legs trembled, his hands trembled, and he couldn't hold his chopsticks steady, repeatedly dropping and picking them up.

After finishing the meal, Chu Heng set down his bowl and chopsticks.

Ye Muyu had long since finished eating.

Chu Heng said, "I need to go back to the old residence later."

No one responded for a moment.

Ye Muyu suddenly realized he was speaking to her, "Okay, you go ahead. Are you coming back for lunch?"

Chu Heng gave her a deep look, said nothing, and stood up to leave.

Once Chu Heng left the house,

Chu Jin lay limp on the chair like he had been drained, patting his chest in fear, "Mother, when is Father leaving again? He's simply too terrifying."

Chu Ziluo didn't dare to speak. She stood up and began to clear the bowls and chopsticks.

"Put them down, you don't have to do this." Ye Muyu noticed her actions and gently told her to put them down. She then got up, took the bowls and chopsticks, and walked into the kitchen.

There was still hot water in the pot. Using the hot water, Ye Muyu washed the bowls and put them in the wooden cupboard on the counter.

Finishing the dishwashing, she came out again.

It wasn't until she walked back into the main room that Chu Ziluo and Chu Jin reacted.

Chu Ziluo stood trembling in front of Ye Muyu, "Mother, it rained last night, and I got up late this morning. I didn't mean not to call you..."
