THE CONVERSION: The Desperate Bargain
The sun was high in the sky, and the air hung heavy with tension as Jack nervously dialed Philips' number. The phone rang, each tone echoing the urgency of the situation. Finally, Philips answered, and a brief sigh of relief escaped Jack's lips.
"Philips, my man, how are you doing today?" Jack's voice betrayed a mix of anxiety and hope.
"I am fine," replied Philips, a note of curiosity in his tone. They exchanged pleasantries, but it didn't take long for Philips to cut to the chase.
"Why the reason for this call?" Philips inquired, his voice becoming more serious.
Jack cleared his throat, his nerves palpable even through the phone. "My girlfriend has been kidnapped, and we've tracked her to a condo in El Dorado."
Philips' silence on the other end spoke volumes, and then he asked, "Are you sure she is there?"
