"You know, it is frustrating that we...that I have to do this," Mrs. Addison pressed her fingers against the skin of her forehead and tirelessly placed one arm on the steering wheel.
"What else can you do?" Her father stared at her, guilt tugging at his heart.
"There could have been something else you could say but definitely not a brain tumor. I mean, dad! You've just trapped me in a worse situation. What if Kayla finds out everything? What do I do then? I just want them to be safe yet I have to tell so many lies," She sighed and looked out the car window for a brief moment.
"We both know that it's not their safety that stops you, Beatrice. It's the fear you've built in you for the past 15 years," Her father said.
"I'm scared because I know what I don't want for my children, dad. Everyday I wait and listen if they are going to come for us and that's the fear I have in protecting my kids."
Her father sighed.
