She seemed alright for the moment so I decided to run downstairs for a couple of cokes.
I knew I was dying of thirst and figured she would be too. I grabbed my robe and headed for the kitchen.
My brother came into the room as I opened the fridge, saying "work up a thirst? It sure sounded like it." I just smiled and told him that I hadn't realized we were that loud".
"I think the neighbors windows cracked with that last one. I don't know what kind of vitamins you're taking but if you can spare some let me know" he said.
"You might want to air your room out some and change the sheets before the folks get home. I got busted like that once. You don't want that lecture!"
I didn't remember this and was curious so I asked "when did this happen? Were mom and dad really pissed?
He sighed "I was about your age and you were at Grandmas house. I guess we both started young. I got the whole lecture.
The funny thing is the sex part didn't bother them at all. It was all about rubbers and shit like that. They went on for over an hour."
"That reminds me" I said "do you think you could pick a couple of boxes of Trojans up for me? She's my age so we don't need to worry yet but I want to make sure. Problems like that I don't need".
He said "sure, give me the cash after I get them. But if you need any before then there's some in my night stand." I thanked him and headed back upstairs.
Jan was sitting up in the bed and looking a bit confused. "Where did you go?" then said "oh! Thanks, you're a life saver. I am soo thirsty"!
"I figured it was the least I could do. After all, if it weren't for me you wouldn't be".
"What took you so long?" When I told her my brother was there she freaked.
"He didn't hear us did he?"
The look on her face was something else when I told her the comment about the neighbors' windows. The more I told her about the conversation, the redder she got.
I finally cracked up and explained that he was cool and wouldn't say anything. I did warn her that he liked to tease people even more than me. I should know.
Being six years younger than him I had been on the receiving end of it long enough. I had to help Jan get dressed.
She was really sore and as might be expected had trouble walking at first. We went downstairs to give her time to steady her legs somewhat before she left for home.
Al was watching TV and laughing his ass off. "Damn", I said, "must be a good show. You never watch television unless it's news or sports". He told me it was the news and they were talking about how the crew of Apollo 13 had repaired things well enough to make it back.
"Duct tape man, can you believe it? With a roll of duct tape and a hammer you can fix anything!" He noticed Jan while we got our own chuckle over that.
He asked her "how could somebody as cute as you be interested in this little runt?"
I got an even better appreciation of Jan's humor then. My brother was a lot like me (or vice-versa I guess since he was older) he just did not get embarrassed.
Nothing usually fazed us but the look on his face when she came back with "oh, he's not little at all" and acted as if she was checking the front window for cracks was amazing.
When he closed his mouth he looked at me. "She's a keeper. Has she got a sister"?
Jan answered for me "Yes, as a matter of fact I do. You might know her from school actually. Her name is Joyce Denton".
My brother looked at Jan more closely and smiled "hmm, let's see... 5'7"... smart, talented, funny, and gorgeous... somebody like that almost got me killed yesterday.
I didn't get her name but she looked like an older version of you. She wouldn't be a cheerleader or in the band would she"?
Jan laughed and said "that was you? She used to be a cheerleader in ninth grade but that and band was too much so now she just does the marching band.
She didn't actually see what happened but she was really embarrassed about it". She went on to explain about what occurred for my benefit. "Some of her friends are cheerleaders and they were practicing the same time as the band and the football team (my brother plays defensive end).
They bet her that she couldn't play trumpet on top of a pyramid. She didn't think about having on a skirt and not her uniform until afterward".
My brother shook his head, saying "I heard a great rendition of 'Tijuana Taxi' and when I turned to look I saw a fantastic pair of legs attached to a girl playing a trumpet.
The last thing I remember was a lovely pair of light blue panties before I got nailed by our fullback, at least until the smelling salts woke me up. Coach had a field day and the team showed NO mercy. I think they were just jealous that they missed it".
That gave me an idea. I remembered Al was always griping about how the girls he really liked not giving him the time of day and how the only dates he could get were with the ones who wanted to date a jock to improve their social standing.
"Seems like the least she could do is call you to see if you survived." I suggested. "I mean, if she's as pretty as her sister she should know how dangerous a sight like that can be to a defenseless male like you. I think she should apologize."
Jan said "Can I have your number? Maybe she'll call you later." Jan then asked Al what I had been wondering too.
"Where did you come up with all that other stuff about Joyce? I mean, how would you know about the smart, talented and funny parts"?
Al said "It's obvious. Anybody who could pull that off had to be all three".
Jan said "Joyce doesn't usually go for football players. Some of her friends have and all she's heard them talk about being treated bad and how most of them weren't too bright.
I probably shouldn't have said that and I hope you don't take it the wrong way but it's kind of made her keep her distance."
Al sighed "no offense taken. she's right. Most of them are stupid jocks that get their grades handed to them because they make the school money by packing the stadium every week and getting playoff money every year".
I poked my nose in then "not all of them are that way. When was the last time you didn't make an A and earn it?"
Al graoned "last year. I missed a week because I had the Flu, remember? If you miss a week of Callahan's Calculus class you're toast. I barely got a B after that, sucks because I had a 4.0 until then."
I looked at Jan and we both smiled because we knew they'd get along fine. I walked Jan most of the way home and we talked (conspired really) about our matchmaking.
We both found out some things that made us think it was a good fit. Joyce and Al were a year apart in school. Al was a senior and already had committed to attending the local University.
He was going to play football there and could have gotten an athletic scholarship but as a way for the school to get more players on the team he took the academic one that was also offered and would play as a walk-on.
It seems that they also had a very good medical program (complete with their own hospital) and he wanted to become involved in medical research. Joyce was a junior and in all the advanced placement courses she could get.
There had even been talk of graduating early and attending the same University that Al was planning on next year. We shared a last kiss around the corner (and out of sight) from her house and went our separate ways.
