Chapter 1 - Earthquake

Hello… whoever is reading this.

I am a citizen of a small island of no more than one million inhabitants located in the Pacific Ocean, it is a beautiful country that I really love very much...

Although the tourists were few, everyone on the island lived our lives to the best of our ability without interfering with anyone.

You may wonder why I am telling you this... because my country has an enemy that I want to eradicate at all costs.

Have you heard of a place called the United States? It is a nation which is said to be the most powerful on the planet, far ahead of countries like China or Russia, which is why everyone respects and fears them.

Many countries would fight to have the full attention of the United States and thus improve their economy, tourism and power in general.

Yes… but we didn't need it.

That country... has... The United States had never interfered with us, it could be said that despite being far from everyone, we had developed peacefully without interfering with anyone.

It could be said that we were an unknown country in the eyes of the world.

That was until a week ago.

*…and in other news, the US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is entering the territorial waters of Oceana Island and preparing to begin operations*

An aircraft carrier... is a gigantic air base converted into a ship which can navigate the seas of the entire world, it could be said that they are the kings of the sea.

Why is an aircraft carrier coming to our island?

Well, it is something simple but complex at the same time.

A new element was discovered in one of the coal mines in my country.

Yes, as you read, when it was believed that all the elements on earth had been discovered, this arrives and makes the news explode internationally.

It would seem that the whole world should help in his investigation, but it did not, the United States threatened our government to be the only ones to investigate it.

Weird, right? Why would the United States be so interested in a new element to the point of sending one of its aircraft carriers to guard the operation?

That item may have an importance that no one has seen yet... and the United States wants to steal it for itself.

Yes... just as they have done with everything that interests them around the world.

Immediately upon announcing the operations, an international blockade was imposed on us which included imports, exports, tourism and everything in general, so no one enters and no one leaves.

This is all hasty, but it is what they have decided.

This has brought my nation into chaos and food is missing from my people's tables.

All for that damn element...

As you can see there is a great enemy for our nation, we should all be against it but... my people are satisfied, they don't fight for what is theirs.

They all just let that foreign country do what they want with our nation, don't they know that it will take away our country?!

Seems like I'm in a crazy world where no one thinks this is wrong.

If only I had the power to do something...

xxx

First of January 2023.

At this moment I am on the beach watching the aircraft carrier approaching in the distance.

The waves hit the coast one by one, that generates a relaxing sound and makes the water reach my feet.

But despite that beautiful feeling I'm not calm.

I bite my lips hard while I think about how they will stay with us.

Damn nation, they'll just steal ours and leave.

My fists clench just thinking about how powerless I am in this situation.

Power... if I had power...

Power is everything in this world, be it military or political, unfortunately I don't have either.

As I watched the aircraft carrier anchor in the distance, something happened.

The waves in the sea began to tremble and splash everywhere.

W-What's up... earthquake!

The earth began to shake stronger and stronger until I couldn't stand up anymore and I fell to the ground.

The tremor grew stronger, so much so that I could no longer see anything clearly.

I knew how dangerous it was to be on the coast, but despite that I couldn't get up.

As I could I tried to drag myself away from the water but thanks to the tremor I had no control of my body.

In the distance, I could hear cars and buildings collapsing while people screamed.

The beach I was on was sinking as the earthquake grew more and more intense.

The waves began to beat against the coast getting closer until they finally reached me and, like a rag doll, I was dragged by the sea.

I tried to resist but the water did not give up, I quickly dragged myself out to sea.

The cold water on my skin and the constant waves that suffocated my chances of breathing made it clear to me that I would possibly die.

At that moment the water seemed to form a whirlpool because I dragged myself to the bottom.

With all my strength I tried to swim up but the water was stubborn and insisted on taking me with it to the bottom of the sea.

So I will die.

It was my thought as I watched how everything became darker and darker.

>Help me<

As I resigned myself to my destiny, I heard a voice in my head.

>Help me<

The voice was repeated, this time louder.

She sounded… desperate.

In that I felt some light hit my eyelids so I opened my eyes.

God…

I was surprised to see a huge stake of… Crystal? Brilliant protruding from the seabed.

I looked down and saw how the stake got thicker and thicker the further down I looked.

>Help me<

Every time the voice spoke the crystal stake would light up a beautiful rainbow color.

Strangely, I touched the stake with my right hand.

>Would you help me?<

Nobody has ever helped me... if I could do something for this voice...

Faced with that question, I could only think...

I'll help you.

Immediately the stake glowed brightly and began to boil red hot.

Painfully I removed my hand and saw how the stake throbbed.

The surrounding water began to boil from the heat generated by the stake, even my body began to heat up all over.

I tried to see more but at this moment the little oxygen in my lungs finally escaped and my vision turned black.

>Thanks for helping me<

xxx

An unknown time later I regained consciousness.

I used all my strength to open my eyelids and look around.

Where…? The beach.

I was in the rubble of a dock next to the beach.

I did not feel the earth shake, it seems that the earthquake stopped.

I looked at my clothes and they were all torn with blood stains all around.

With the delicacy of not making excessive movements, I got up and supported myself with a stick that I found lying around.

As I walked, I looked at the sea and saw how the debris floated and was washed up on the beach by the waves.

I also saw dozens of boats helping people in the water and looking for survivors.

A little further away you could see the aircraft carrier and her escorts floating calmly in the water, who seem not to be collaborating with the aid.

My eyes narrowed and dozens of curses went through my head but in the end I didn't say any, I just used the stick and started walking.

Each step was torture, the wounds on my body bled and intensified, with each step they made me weaker and weaker.

It didn't take long for my legs to give way and I fell to the ground.

Luckily my efforts paid off, now I was close to the road, here it is possible that they will find me.

Dimly I turn around and look at the sky.

The clouds moved slowly across the sky, indifferent to what happens here on the ground.

Looks like I won't last long...

I thought about my whole life up to now and... I really didn't have happy moments.

Faced with my possible death, I didn't really feel anything, I don't have family and friends, no one will worry if I die.

No, if there is someone who would worry if I die... I hope it's okay...

The blood began to heat my body, I have heard that this is a symptom that you are on your last legs.

I was having a hard time breathing so I opened my mouth and breathed in and out quickly in an attempt not to run out of air.

That's when that big glass stake I saw earlier came to mind.

It must have been a dream... yes, it is not possible that something like this exists.

I weakly closed my eyes and waited for my end.

>You can't die yet<

That voice is the same as the one I heard before.

With the little strength that remained in my being I opened my eyes and, although I am not in condition, I was surprised by what I saw.

>You promised to help me, you can't die<

A petite woman with wings, purple hair, and a frilly purple dress stood before my eyes.

How cute… she looks like a fairy.

No… wait, fairies don't exist.

Maybe it's an angel welcoming me to the other world?

I closed my eyes and opened them again, I thought that with that the fairy would disappear but... it didn't.

"Who are you…"

I said with what little strength I had left.

>I guess I'll have to, I won't let you die now that you promised to help me<

The fairy floated towards my chest and, although it sounds impossible, he entered my body.

I immediately felt a freshness that spread throughout my body.

This is not bad at all.

After that I closed my eyes and lost consciousness.

xxx

When I regained consciousness, the first thing I felt was the soft mattress of a bed.

So comfortable…

It's the first time since I left the orphanage that I've slept in something so comfortable.

I feel in the clouds.

On a whim I wanted to continue sleeping but inside I knew that this would prevent someone who needs the bed from sleeping in it.

I opened my eyes and, as expected, I was in a medical bed.

Behind me the sunlight was coming in which means there is a window, on the sides there were several medical devices.

Luckily none is for me.

I raised my body a bit and saw the surroundings.

"…the patient is stable for now"

"Mother…!"

"It hurts… it hurts a lot"

I observed the place and sadness invaded my heart, because the place was full of injured people and their relatives.

Even the floor was not saved, there were people everywhere.

Doctors were running non-stop from bed to bed tending to all the injured patients, apparently they are short of manpower.

I noticed that my body didn't ache so I knew I didn't need the bed.

I got out of bed and noticed that I had a few needles inserted in my arm.

"S-excuse me nurse, I feel fine now"

I stopped a nurse who passed by me and asked her if she would help me remove the needles.

"Understood"

Carefully the nurse removed the needles from me, freeing me, then she said goodbye and ran to another patient.

I got out of bed, careful not to accidentally step on someone.

I saw several injured people on the floor, which made me a little annoyed that they gave me a bed and not them.

"You can upload it"

"Thank you, Miss"

I bent down and with the help of a relative lifted an old man onto the bed where he had previously been.

"Thank you"

"You are welcome"

After that I started maneuvering between the patients to get out of the hospital.

The stagnant air in the place gave it a pessimistic atmosphere.

The humidity of the place and the hardness of the ground made my feet feel uncomfortable.

Fortunately or unfortunately I had lost my shoes and socks, which in a certain way helped me to better maneuver between people.

I looked around and there were all kinds of people admitted, some with small injuries, others with a broken leg and a few with injuries so strong that I am not willing to narrate them.

Seeing all this made my heart clench and a huge pain in my chest.

As I could, I looked away and concentrated on walking.

After a while I was able to leave the hospital on the street.

My God…

The surroundings were littered with debris from the surrounding buildings.

Police and firefighters were helping to get the victims out of a nearby building with the help of rescue dogs.

Dogs…

At that moment I remembered my best friend and my breath hitched.

I quickly located myself and began to run towards the interior of the island.

Rubble after rubble, person after person, I didn't care about anything, my vision was focused on getting home.

It didn't take long for him to arrive at an old apartment building.

Either because of the materials with which it was built or luckily the building was standing and had not collapsed

Seeing this made me relax a bit and slow down my speed.

I went up the stairs and got to apartment 103 and tried to open the door.

The key!

With concern I looked for the key in all the pockets of my pants.

Fortunately it was in my right front pocket and was not washed away.

He was in such a hurry that it took several tries to fit the key into the lock.

On try number four he can finally open the door and I rushed in.

"Wow"

A dog greeted me with a bark at the door.

"Rurik!!"

With joy I reached down and hugged my beloved Rottweiler.

Rurik seemed to be scared, I forcefully wrapped my arms around his body and used his big tongue to lick my face.

"Yeah...everything's alright"

I couldn't hold back the tears and cried.

If something had happened to Rurik...

This beautiful dog is my only relative and possibly the only one who would cry if I died.

Rurik is a Rottweiler that I found in the garbage two years ago, it seems that his previous owner did not want to deal with a pet so he left him in a cardboard box to his fate.

When I found him, he had not eaten for several days and was about to die, but thanks to my care he was able to recover and become part of my family.

I used my hands to caress Rurik's black fur covered body and patted his head a few times.

"Come on, I'll give you food"

I used my left hand to wipe away my tears and put on a smile as I stood up.

I walked into the kitchen with Rurik in tow and picked up a small white plate which I used to scoop out dog food from a large sack.

"Wait"

Obediently Rurik sat down and watched me as he put the food on his favorite red plate.

"And that's it"

At my order Rurik got up and began to eat.

"Good Guy"

I gave him a little pat on the head and watched him eat for a while.

After a while I remembered that my clothes were torn and that I was barefoot so I walked to my room.

These clothes are no longer useful, I will have to buy more.

I opened the wooden door of my room and entered.

Although I don't think there will be anything open for the next few days…

While I was thinking about that, I went to my closet and by coincidence I saw myself in the mirror.

One moment…

I stopped abruptly and turned my head towards the mirror.

What the hell…

The mirror surface reflected my bed, table, fan and window in the background, all completely ordered.

In the center of it was a flat woman of about sixteen years old and with torn clothes.

Everything normal up to there, bone I am a woman and my age is seventeen years so there is nothing strange.

But where the problem is is in my hair and eyes...

Since when are my hair and eyes purple…?

I walked over to the mirror and put a hand on it, then closed my eyes and opened them again.

There is no mistake, my hair and eyes turned a somewhat dark purple, as if it had been delicately painted to be perfect.

"Because…"

He can't help but mutter while looking at my reflection.

>That's because you merged with me<

Suddenly a rather shrill voice sounded in my head.

This is already the third time...

I clearly remembered the time I almost drowned and on the beach, I heard the exact same voice.

But I thought they were hallucinations...

"Who are you?"

Ask while waiting for an answer that satisfies my doubts.

>I am a channel with the crystal<

"I don't understand…"

>Basically I am the representation of the magical crystal that is under this island<

In that I remembered the crystal I saw in the water.

"But magic doesn't exist"

>No, of course it exists, it's just that it hasn't been activated yet in this world, but the intervention of humans and their attempt to dig and extract pieces of the crystal has caused the crystal to come out of its ancient rest<

"I do not get it"

>In short, if the crystal comes out of its dream completely the world will see a big change<
