"Her grave?!"
"What happened to her?!"
The old man's reaction shocked Lilith as she look at him very carefully, wondering where he knew her mother.
The old man cleared his throat and urged. "Kid, explain what happened to me."
Since what happened to her mother was not a secret, Lilith told him. "They said that mother raped father's younger brother and so... and so, she was beheaded in the city square."
"Beheaded?!" The old man gasped and Lilith nodded, the old man's hold onto his heart as he fell back onto the wicker chair.
After a long moment of silence, he raised his head and asked. "What is your name?"
"Lilith, Lilith Millward," Lilith said.
The old man nodded. "Lilith, take the bow with you, its arrows are inside the shop but I don't think it is convenient to take it all, after all, it is very many and could arouse the suspicion of the guards."
Weapon 🔪 was a very dangerous object and so the number of weapons in a weapon shop is to be recorded and the amount bought within a month. The information of the buyer was also required, and this will be submitted to the palace three months later. Anybody who bought a large number of weapons will be deemed suspicious.
Of course, this is not what surprised Lilith but the fact that the old man wanted to give the bow to her free of charge. Even though she wasn't planning on leaving without the bow, she pitied the old man, he look scrawny and yet he wanted to miss the money.
"Old man, why do you want to gift me this bow free of charge? Don't you need to eat and to provide for your family?"
The old man raised his eyebrow and stroke his long white beard. "What do you want to say?"
"Take this, this is all the money I have with me." Lilith took out the thirty silvers she had.
The old man stares at her again and Lilith couldn't help but think that he had a fetish for staring.
He finally stretched out his hand and collect the money from her.
Lilith had yet to forget her first question, she sat down on a chair beside him. "Old Man, you are yet to tell me how my mother is related to you."
"You want to know?"
"Yes."
"I and your mother are related, she is my nie... my friend." He corrected himself.
"Friend?" Lilith think it was weird. Her mother was friends with this old man who seems to be in his eighties when she was just in her early thirties.
Of course, she didn't say this aloud but asked instead "What should I call you then?"
"Lucas." He said and went inside the shop, coming out, in his hand were ten arrows, and he handed them to her.
"You can come and get more after you finish using this."
"Thanks for the bow and arrows Lucas, I will take my leave now. Bye!"
Lilith said and Lucas waved at her.
When Lilith reached home, it was noon already and Jane was already preparing lunch.
Lilith on the other hand didn't know how to cook, nope, she didn't have the talent, her hand were meant to cut or shoot people and not to cut onions.
She waited for Jane to cook finish and they had lunch together, after that, she accompanied Jane to go to Curtis and Harriet's shop to deliver their meals.
They rested at Harriet's shop and that's when two women who were dressed luxuriously came to buy fruits. They were followed by their maidservants, further announcing that they are nobles.
"Lady Miriam, Lady Edwina, you are here?" Harriet said as she stood up and welcome the women.
Miriam smiled at her, nodding, and then ask. "What kind of fruits do you have this week,?"
"There are raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, and loganberries."
"Which one do you think the princess will love?" Miriam turned to her partner, Edwina.
Edwina shook her head. "I only knew that the princess loves fruits, the specialties? I don't know that."
"You want to buy for the princess?" Harriet asked curiously. She was very good friends with Miriam since the latter wasn't arrogant so she was sure that she wouldn't be shunned.
"It is the princess's birthday in a week, and the princess is a fruit lover," Miriam explained.
Lilith's eyes shone when she heard this. There is a chance for her!
