Chapter 14 - Kynburgh' Palace.

Stiles POV

"Urgh."

The first thing that came to sight as I opened my drowsy eyes was the eye-catching chandelier hanging on the ceiling. I could not help but wonder about my current location since the chandelier looked rather expensive.

Looking in the direction of the sudden disturbance, I sighted a female going about with her business.

"How was your sleep?" She inquired without looking at me.

"Good, I guess."

What more could I say?; waking in an unknown location with a lady working at my bedside.

"Do you feel any uncomfortability?" She asked, finally facing my direction.

I must say, she is beautiful. She had scarlet eyes with blonde hair that cascaded down her back.

"Don't know," I replied.

I don't see any reason in answering her questions. At least, not until I can tell what situation I'm in.

"Am I in the fortress?"

"Yes. Specifically, Kynburgh Palace."

Ohh! Does this have anything to do with the crown… I thought, scrutinizing my body for the ornaments.

"I'll advise you not to move much."

"What am I doing here?" I decided to go straight to the point. Was I a captive? And if I was a captive, why would they give me such luxurious hospitality?

"I'm not in the position to answer your questions. I'll advise you to wait a while for someone that has the authority." She shrugged, placing a metallic plate on the wooden cabinet.

"I'd like to check your vital signs." She sought my permission, before placing her fingers on my wrist.

"Can you tell me about the incident?; The one at the fortress' gate." I inquired in an apprehensive tone.

"No casualties. The biggest issue was a sprained ankle." She shrugged, letting go of my wrist.

Twitch

Even Mom, in all her glory, could not withstand my episodes. There is no way they could withstand it! I guess she is saying this to ease my guilt. After all, she considers me a child.

"I can tell you don't believe me from your expression." She said, heading for the door. "But trust me, I have no reason to lie."

Those were her last words as she closed the door, her footsteps fading with time.

Recalling what happened at the fortress' gate, I felt there was something more to my power than I could see or feel. A sudden sense of urgency dawned on me.

Haa. That ethereal woman set me up… I thought, rising from the bed. Time to put some of my lessons to use…

My Mom had been obsessed with security, so she trained me to fight and use all the abilities I could utilize to my gain.

Melee combat had been her main focus since I had issues with utilizing my energy.

Standing, I threw a jab randomly, creating a ripple. Slowly, I repeated the jab, utilizing both my right and left arm.

Don't mistake me, I don't plan on fighting against death if it comes, but I won't let some bitch use me to accomplish some stupid agenda.

Hehe. This is going to be fun!

Unknown location in the palace…

"From our deduction, he should be around the age of twelve." A female, dressed in a light blue gown said, looking at the papers before her.

"Identity?"

"He must be a foreigner to this region. There is no record of him in our database. Though, we have sent out skilled informants to the neighboring communities." She replied to the male not seated far from her.

"What of the people he came in with?"

"They claim he talked of being a cannibal and a demon." She replied, emphasizing the 'cannibal' and 'demon' parts.

"I'm pretty sure the royal family is pissed." The male said with a sigh.

After Stiles's appearance in Kynburgh, his reputation spread out wide as the next ruler; one who would take them to glory. It was clear the existing king family won't sit well with this situation.

"His sons are proposing we kill him off, using the incident at the gate as an excuse to fuel their support."

It was clear Stiles' episode did not sit well with some people. After all, humanity was a race filled with conniving individuals who aimed to destroy what they could not decipher.

"Our records talk of the Ruler Crown." The female said with bated breath. "A ruler who can lead us to our true glory."

"I'll advise you not to let lore get the better of you, Rebecca." The male said, rising from his seat.

From Rebecca's expression, one could deduce she believed fully in the story of the past. Despite the male attempt to dissuade her, she still held the belief that the legend is true. Stiles' appearance was just a means to ignite the flames of faith within her.

"He has a slim chance of survival. With the upper echelons of this fortress against him, I don't think he would last long." The male said, heading for the door.

"And don't forget our current ruler. Though he is sick, his words are still paramount." He continued, closing the door behind him.

Rebecca knew better than to get ahead of herself. Even though the aforesaid Crown choose Stiles, there was no saying if he would survive to take the throne.

'I'll have to look for people willing to side with my course.' Rebecca thought, chewing off her nails.

'It is going to be risky, but for a bright future, I have to walk that path.'

Rebecca immediately headed for the shelf in the corner of the office, hastily searching for an unknown file.

After a few moments of scanning through the shelf, she discovered what she was looking for. "There you are."

In her hand was a hardcover book, big enough to hold up ages of knowledge. Her current task was to read through all records she could find of the Crown—to know all its peculiarities. This way, guarding her on the path she needed to follow to come out successful.

'I'll have to meet the boy.' she thought, simultaneously glancing through the pages. 'I hope he can provide me with useful information.'

Having other thoughts, she showcased a devilish smile. "The world would once again witness our terror. I can't wait."
