Chapter 9 - Ornaments

Maria POV

We had never thought of the consequences of entering a relationship, only realizing it after discovering I had a fetus in my womb—something that fed off everything I took in.

I felt shattered; anxiety was the strongest feeling I had at that moment.

But as days passed, it changed to determination… determination to keep the fetus alive, introduce it to the world, and shower it with my undying love.

Unlike me, Liam felt it had to be eliminated. Among us, Liam was kind-hearted; he preferred using peaceful methods while I preferred using violent methods.

Back then, he claimed the child would only suffer, he would only receive the scorn of the world for his origins, and even ghouls would have a better place in the hearts of the masses than him.

He wasn't lying; even demons with their vile existence, considered him an abomination. He was like the worst of the worst. Everyone wanted to eliminate him, even though they knew he didn't have much time to live.

That only lasted until I found the record in the ruins: An ancient building, housing knowledge of civilizations that existed before us.

The record talked of a hybrid. In particular, an angel-demon hybrid—a Nephalem, as the record calls it.

It talked of the ornaments of a Ruler and claimed that adorning the Nephalem with these ornaments of a Ruler would save his existence.

I had worked to get all the ornaments listed on the record, even ones that looked similar, adorning Stiles with all of them.

The last piece I bring unto my son, in hopes that he may live a long life.

Getting close enough, I pierced his skin with the needle, injecting the contents into his bloodstream.

"You are a strong boy, Stiles," I commented, taking out a glittering object from the box. "I know you can do it."

Maybe I shouldn't trust what those records presented—It could be a setup to turn my son into something he's not, or lies to draw followers to their course.

Stop thinking about this, Maria. It's too late to turn back. I had sacrificed a lot to get here.

If this fails, then I'm sorry Stiles. If it succeeds… We could be the family you dream of.

The item I held in my hand was like a crown. Its edges were so sharp that I bled by holding it. Surely, with such divinity, it could solve Stiles' problem.

I could tell he was flabbergasted by the item in my hand. He had never been aware when I placed the other items on him, so this must seem fascinating and horrifying to him; what contrasting emotions.

"Don't be scared," I said.

"Y–you are bleeding!" Stiles growled, his energy fluctuating.

"That's more reason for you to cooperate, so I don't bleed anymore."

How bad of me to target his emotions.

He only nodded, lowering his head so I could fit the crown easily.

Light filled the room the moment the crown touched his head, Liam gasping in awe as he watched the scene.

Author POV

Before the crowning

"Any update on their location?" A male in a black suit and tie asked.

"Not yet. But I'll find it!" A male in casual dress replied, operating a huge device.

"Uncle Jasper messed everything up." Said a girl in exasperation, pouting to show her dismay.

"I'm sorry, Himari-chan!" Jasper bowed to the girl, apologizing for his mistakes.

Unlike the moment during Maria's attack, he looked fine. Only his tattered clothes gave out the fact that something odd happened.

"On the good side, I made her leave the weapon," Jasper added, pointing to the spear that lay on the ground.

"You are so thick-skinned, to say such things when you requested I leave them to your able hands." The man in the suit retorted, glaring at Jasper.

"Quiet guys! I found it!" The male in casual dress said. "I don't know what they did, but there was a huge disturbance from their end, making me locate them easily."

"How far is it?" The leader inquired hastily.

"Far… very far."

Turning to the vehicle parked on one side, the leader asked. "Can you take us there?"

"As long as you get the coordinates, I can take you anywhere." Answered the individual in the vehicle.

"Heh, Here we come."

Maria POV

"They are here" Liam growled,

"Seems they were able to utilize the coordinate sample we left behind," I commented.

This is one of the biggest setbacks of using coordinates to travel. If a little sample should be left behind, your enemies with a good Tracker, could use the pathways of the sample coordinate.

That was why we never used the array where an eyewitness existed.

"We need to leave immediately," Liam said, looking at Stiles who had a perplexed expression.

"What's going on, Mom?"

Observing Stiles, I felt his turbulent energy calm down. He was like a normal kid, one with no affliction.

"How do you feel?" I asked, grabbing his shoulder.

The crown could not be seen, same with the other ornaments I put on him, this was something that always baffled me.

"What's all this, Mom?" He continued, not replying to my question. "The rings, the necklace, and the crown on my head?"

Now it was my turn to be shocked by his question. Whenever I put any of these pieces on him, they always vanished and he also had no idea of them. But now… he could see them.

"Does it hurt?" I asked, touching his head to feel the invisible crown.

"You can check these things anytime. Not now, please!"

I could feel Liam's frustration at my actions. Not like I'll blame him, he had gone through a lot these past few days.

"We have to go somewhere, baby." I caressed his cheeks. "Somewhere better."

"Can I trust you, Mom?"

"Yes, of course."

Things would really get hectic from here. Just to fulfill my greed, I dragged Liam down this path. Did I truly love him? If I did, would I regret the choice I'm about to make? Would he resent me?

Looking at Liam, I felt I needed to change the base of my question. Would they resent me?

I'm sorry, this is the only path for us.

For destiny to be fulfilled, I guess.
