"You little bitch!" I cursed out loud as I tumbled down the L-shaped couch, falling right into my ass.
I'm not a very religious person, but I know that children are supposed to be innocent.
They're the perfect replica of trust, innocence, and pureness and they're also meant to be angelic, adorable, and friendly.
However, this thing that Zayn calls his daughter only has the "adorable" one on the checklist.
I'm literally confused if he and his previous wife or girlfriend built Maya or if Satan himself did with black magic.
This kid acts like the devil's child.
"Will you just give the damn thing back?" I yelled angrily as I watched her run behind the TV table while she giggled hysterically.
Pushing her pigtails out of her face, Maya shoved a candy in her mouth and looked at me with a smirk.
God, I just don't know how long I can look at that stupid expression anymore.
"I'm not going to tell Daddy that you just said that," she said in between chews. "And come on— I thought you wanted this. It's true that you're short but your legs are way longer than mine, you could do so much better than this, Sabrina." She added, shoving the candy container back on her jeans.
As curious I am about how deep her pocket is, I'm also quite insulted when she said something about my height. It kind of reminds me of that night when Zayn and I went to target in our party clothes to buy supplies for our revenge crusade.
The very same night that he also offered me the opportunity to sneak my way into his life.
"Maya, this is not a joke," I said, trying to talk to her calmly for the millionth time. "My life depended on that thing, and if it's dead, I'd probably be dead too." I added desperately.
After I said that, she seemed to think about it for awhile. But after processing the information for a few minutes, she made a clicking noise and pulled her boots up. Again.
"Don't worry, Sabrina. We have a lot of flowers outside," she said. "And Daddy's going to pay for your funeral. You wouldn't have to worry about a thing." She added before running away again.
See? This is exactly why I hate kids.
Groaning, I stood up from the ground with my sore ass and started trekking down the direction that she had ran at. I can't really run with this ass now.
It took me awhile to track her down because of my pace, but when I saw her, it was the perfect opportunity.
She was so caught off guard by the lid of the candy container, and it literally seemed like it was the biggest problem in the world for her.
Grinning, I sneaked up behind her and since she was still caught off guard by the candy container, she didn't immediately noticed when i charged towards her.
And just like that, the next thing that I know is that I was already leaping at her, making the both of us fall to the ground with a loud thud.
I may look like an idiot tackling a five-year-old right now, but at least I got the flashdrive.
Yeah, it was worth it.
"I got it!" I yelled enthusiastically as I raised the blue flashdrive in the air.
Unfortunately, before I could even celebrate further, a small whimper cut me off. I looked around to see who just made that sound, but I quickly went back to thinking like people my age when I noticed that the sound was actually coming from beneath me.
It was Maya who was making that sound, and I was hovering my entire 47kg over her.
Zayn is so firing me for this.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," I apologized as I quickly got off her. "Sweetie, ar- are you hurt?" I asked a little panicked as I went on and checked her body for any signs of injury.
It's just my first day in this job, and I'm already fucked.
"Maya, answer me. Are you alright?" I asked again, but instead of giving me an answer, she just started sobbing.
"I just want to play with someone," she said in between sobs. "Now I know why you think I'm annoying." She added, rubbing her teary eyes with her tiny hands.
I sighed at that.
Although it's true that I find her annoying, I still feel a little bad for her. Her entire family might be deadass rich, but I know that their schedule gives her a lot of alone time.If she was a teenager, she'd probably love that.
But she's not, she's just a child.
"Oh, Maya," I said empathetically as I scooted to her.
I might be a vindictive bitch, but I'm not emotionless. The family that I used to have gave me no room for second thoughts. They only showed me the good side of the world and I guess that it's still with me, although it's obvious that I'm not entirely my old self anymore.
A lot has changed.
I've changed.
"I don't think you're annoying, I just value my space sometimes. You have to understand that," I said as I helped her sit on the ground while I wiped her tears out of her reddening cheeks.
"It's the same thing," she insisted. "You're only saying that to make me feel better." She added with an adorable pout.
I chuckled at that.
"If you really think that I'm doing that thing just for you, then I guess it's pretty clear that I don't find you that annoying, don't you think?" I raised an eyebrow as I picked her off the floor and sat her down on my lap.
"I guess," she responded, still looking at me like a lost puppy.
What's that thing that used to make me feel better when I was a child?
Oh, yeah. A hug.
"Will a hug make you feel better?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.
She nodded her head at that.
"Okay," I said, putting an arm around her tiny figure. "I'll give you a hug. Don't you dare use this against me someday though, I'll kill you." I added, knowing that she's more likely to blackmail me with this thing in the near future.
As soon as I said that, she almost immediately sank into my approach and wrapped her arms around my neck. The hug stayed a little longer than I wanted it to, and when I reached my limit, I let go of her.
She's literally sucking the life out of me.
"Thank you, Sabrina," she said, burying her chin on my shoulder.
"You're welcome," I responded.
After I said that, she immediately pulled away from me and started walking in the opposite direction. She kept looking back at me with that smug look that didn't made sense at first.
Knowing that I still had a lot of work to do, I stood up from the ground and shoved my hand into my pocket to take the flash drive out. But when I found nothing there, everything made sense to me.
The bitch fooled me.
"Maya!" I yelled, to which she responded with an evil laugh.
A literal evil laugh.
Frustrated, I ran in the direction where she was headed, and since I was mad as hell already, it didn't take me long to catch up with her.
I may have short legs, but she's not wrong when she said that she's five and that my legs are way longer than hers.
Well, just for now.
As we were getting closer and closer to the end of the hallway, Maya looked back at me and saw that I was only a few feet away from grabbing her by the shirt. With her eyes wide, she turned her back towards me and increased her pace even more.
She was running so fast that she literally went from being grabbed by me, to crashing into a person.
Yeah, I'm not kidding.
She literally crashed into someone.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to run like that?" The person said in a scolding voice as he held Maya in his arms, preventing her from falling to the ground.
"Too many to count." The little menace responded while she giggled uncontrollably.
"Oh, come here," the man said as he hoisted her up and gave her feather kisses. "You seem like you're playing tag with someone. Who are you running away from?" He asked.
As I stood there, almost at the end of the hallway, I couldn't help but feel nostalgic at the sound of this man's voice. Not the good kind of nostalgia, though. He reminds me of this memory from my teenage years that I'd rather not talk about.
But I swear—I've definitely heard him before.
"Sabrina!" Maya answered enthusiastically.
"Sabrina?" The man asked.
Okay, I haven't just heard him. I've met him.
I'm just waiting for the drum roll to come to an end so I can finally see his face again.
"Oh, who is she?" He asked. "Is she Daddy's girlfriend?" He added.
Although I couldn't really see his face since his back was facing me, I know that he's grinning
It's an expression that he always have when his voice sounds like that.
"God, I hope she is," Maya said, throwing her head back. "And before you say something embarrassing, she's standing behind us right now. Come and say hi, Sabrina. My bubba is here!"
