Chapter 9 - Keeping Distance

Hermione was sitted near a water fountain. The coolness it emitted brought a sweet calmness to her despite the noise echoing everywhere. She had done alot today already, watching the dance, seeing different beautiful items being showcased– for the rich of course.

Now she just wanted to rest and nothing more, she couldn't even find the appetite to eat the delicious snacks she came for. She had waited long for Kasper but he didn't show up. He had told her not to go far away and she did just that.

It seemed that he was very busy, then what made him attend the fair today? She didn't know why, because she knew him, he was not someone who liked social events like this. Maybe he came for work after all.

Hermione suddenly felt a certain chill on her back, her brows furrowed, she knew it was not from the cold. She snapped her head to look back.

"You look beautiful."

He was there. His hypnotizing grey eyes looked down at her with a smile spread on his handsome face. He strode closer to her. "I mean it. You look beautiful." He repeated.

Hermione finally heard what he said, snapping herself out from her daze. She felt heat creep up on the sides of her face.

Diverting her gaze from his face, she cleared her throat and looked down, using her hand, she swept her hair behind her ear. "You came." She said instead. Acting as though she didn't hear his compliment.

This only elicited a broad smile from him, revealing his fine set of white teeth, with sharp canines. He knew she was flustered. What an innocent woman. He thought.

She got flustered by only a compliment, it made him think she had never been with a man before. But the faint scent on her said otherwise.

"I Did." He responded.

Hermione nodded, having nothing to say again.

"You are here with someone?" His deep voice echoed out in the noise.

"Yes, I am."

He raised his brows as if asking for an elaboration.

Reading the meaning of the look he gave her she spoke. "A friend of mine."

"I see." He replied shortly.

He took little strides forward. "Don't tell me you told me to come, to have me walk around all by myself." He shouted to her.

Hearing him, Hermione ran up to catch up with him, forgetting kasper's words of not going far.

The was something on her mind but she shut it down, her lips pursed.

"What?" She heard him ask.

Confused, wether she was the one he was referring to she queried. "Did you say something?"

"What do you want to ask?" He said, shocking her.

Hermione squinted her brows, how did he know that she wanted asking him a question.

"I know you are probably wondering how I managed to know that you had something to say."

He turned to her. "Your breathing." He said, his eyes going down to her nose and then to her parted lips. He gazed back at her eyes. "It is tensed." His eyes travelled down her body, running his gaze on her curves that were outlined through her dress, before looking back at her eyes again. "Your composure, you are uncomfortable." This time his eyes went down to her chest.

Hermione's breathe had increased, even more than before. She found herself speechless under the handsome stranger's scrutinizing gaze.

"Your heart, it is beating faster." He said finally, holding her dazed eyes. God! Those eyes.

Hermione forced herself to look away, tearing her eyes away from his, she felt her stomach tumble in a foreign way. Clearing her throat again, she said. "I wanted...Knowing your name." She breathed.

The handsome stranger chuckled, nodding his head he replied. "Curious, are we now."

"If you don't want to, It is alright, I am fine with calling you my Lord." She said dryly.

"Servyn, Servyn Graylen." He asserted, keeping his eyes on her to see her reaction.

Hermione's expression changed, she looked at him too. No way!, This….this is unbelievable, definitely unbelievable.

"Does that ring a bell?" He questioned.

"You…you are..." Hermione found herself unable to speak, she just walked away instead, as fast as she could. Her mind in disarray. What is happening with her life. Why does she always gets entangled with the wrong people. This was not supposed to happen.

"Miss Larabee!." He called out as he went after her, walking through all the people scattered around. Humans!

But she didn't stop, instead she hastened her steps.

He was finally catching up with her. "Miss Larabee!" He called out to her. "Hermione."

She stiffened, and he paused behind her. It was the first time he called her by her name, and he just realized it too. A small smile slithered his lips. It felt…strange.

"Your Highness." She turned to him. Her calm self was long gone.

Servyn did not hold his chuckle back, it escaped his lips.

"If I may ask, what is funny to you, Your Highness?" Hermione asked, with a hardened gaze.

"You, but you are not funny, you are amusing." He replied.

"What do you mean?" She asked with confusion evident in her eyes, as her brows slightly furrowed downwards.

"You want to distance yourself from me now?"

"It is better safe than sorry." She mumbled to his hearing.

"I see, so you see me as trouble then."

"If that is how you perceive it, then who am I to change your mind Your Highness."

"You are being rude you know." He smirked.

"My apologies, Your Highness, I shall take my leave, my friend must be looking for me." She said, ready to go when she felt a light pull on her hands. The distance between them had reduce. She found herself only a few inches away from him, staring at his strikingly grey eyes.

His lips caught her attention when it moved. "You cannot leave until I say so, Hermione."

Oh Lord, what has she gotten herself into?
