Chapter 10 - Dystopia

Fallen Angel

Chapter 10

Courage and confidence that were once mine began to dwindle at the sight of pending peril and catastrophe.

Grudges emanated from an unknown origin.

I tried to calm myself down, thinking about the mess I put myself into.

"Don't worry, my parents would be here very soon and these excuse for a cop would be sorry" Stacey boasted

"You don't get it, when your parents come they'll only take you away and not me" I objected.

"That's not true" she defended and I kept quiet knowing that my reply won't change anything.

"See, Hermit I assure you nothing bad would happen okay" She leaned towards me and planted a soft kiss on my cheeks.

"You two better have your time now while it lasts" one of the cops mocked in a typical jerk's voice.

Soon the police van which we were in, made an abrupt stop at an anonymous location. I had no idea what their intent was, I tried peeping through the back but the cuffs restraining my movement won't let me.

"Why do you have my daughter in there?" I heard Stacey's father roar in fury.

"I'm very sorry sir, I never knew she was your daughter " the cop pleaded.

"She was amid gangsters " the other cop tried shifting the blame.

"I want my daughter out of this van now!" Stacey's mum ordered.

I never knew her parents were this influential and commanding in society. I knew they were rich but not powerful.

The cop came to the back of the van and had us uncuffed.

At the very moment Stacey's parent set their eyes on me they became exasperated.

"You!, I told you I don't want to see you anywhere near my daughter!" Stacey's dad bellowed.

"I'm sorry sir" I pleaded

"Sorry for yourself, ingrate!" Stacey's mom fired at me.

I became broken as soon as I heard her call me that name.

My mind flashed back to when I was banished -

"*You ingrate!, you disobeyed me!, after all, I have done for you!*"

"*I am deeply sorry my lord*"

It was a reflection of my past, I couldn't help but feel sad. Words have a permanent effect on a person but mine was beyond permanent.

"Mom, stop you're hurting him with your words" Stacey complained pitifully.

"Let's go home," Stacey's dad said, he seem to be a man that hated emotional events. They went straight to their car and zoomed off.

Then there I was still in the van but uncuffed.

"Don't you have a house young man?" The officer asked

"Yes I do" I answered

"Then get the hell out of here"

I got down, took a deep breath, and looked for a cab.

.

I found my way to the house and met the family watching TV.

Even Mrs. Becky watched with them.

It was a bit unusual but I guess things have changed since my trip to heaven.

"Hey Hermit, we've been waiting for you all day" Audrey complained and hugged me.

"Hermit, why don't you come to join us?" Mrs. Becky requested.

I was skeptical at first but later accepted.

They were my family after all.

-----------

The morning was accompanied by cold weather, it reminded me that we just entered the winter season.

The winter season was a memorable and remarkable season of my life.

A lot of events took place at that time, but not to worry our past doesn't define our future so it's of no relevance.

After doing all the necessary things needed to be done, I arranged my things preparing to go to work.

"Hi Audie, hi Naomi " I acknowledged their presence as I walked into the living room.

"Where are you going?" Audrey asked

"To the resort obviously" I replied

"Oh Hermit you've been given 2 weeks off" Mrs Becky hopped in the conversation.

"Why should I be given 2 weeks off?" I asked ignorantly

"Because you just recovered from a 5 months coma"

I sunk into the chair immediately.

I knew I'd got no defense but I can't just sit at home idle like Audrey and Naomi, it's just not me.

"Okay, I get it" I agreed.

"Also, I made an order of 5 pizzas and 3 parfaits, do well to eat okay" Mrs Becky cheerfully announced.

"But don't you think the bar would lose customers?" I tried dissuading Mrs. Becky to avoid staying at home.

"No, the bar would be fine just like it has been the past five months, don't worry home would be enjoyable" she prodded and I just couldn't say a word.

She scooted out of the house to the garage.

I started thinking of what to do before noticing Mrs Becky still at the door retreating her steps.

At that moment I knew it was the police.

Mrs. Becky never feared a thing except for cops and government officials, because they were the cause of her late husband's death.

"Is this the residence of Mr. Hermit?" The cop asked pointing his gun directly to Mrs Becky's forehead. She was horrified and was shivering with her hands in the air.

Everyone became terrified at the sight of the numerous cops that made their way into the house.

"Everyone get down!!, your hands at the back of your head!!"

This was my Waterloo, it's as if I'm in a dystopia.
