Chapter 5 - What exactly happened?

Evelyn's eyes fluttered open and she shielded her eyes from a bright light from the ceiling. She adjusted to the light and looked around.

The first thing she saw was the bright moon gleaming in the night sky, then she could see her sibling sleeping on a dark blue couch, her father sleeping on a light blue armchair and her mother sleeping on a mattress that was on the floor.

She didn't know where she was and pinched her cheeks, wondering if this was a dream. "Ow!" she said.

Immediately, her mother heard her and woke up. She rushed to her daughter side and tears came to her eyes. "Evelyn, dear! Are you okay?" her mother asked.

Suddenly, her father and siblings woke up too. In seconds, her whole family surrounded her. They were all speaking at once that Evelyn had no idea of what they were saying. She looked towards her mother with a confused face and her mother nodded as if she understood what Evelyn was feeling.

"Okay, okay," her mother said to her other children and to her husband. "Evelyn's confused. You guys talk too much. She has no clue of what you're saying! Let's tell her what happened first, and you can talk one by one. The poor child has completely no clue of where she is, what happened and why she's here!"

Mrs. Charming fluffed up Evelyn's pillow and helped her to sit. Ethan gave her a glass of warm water and Elly hugged her.

"You must be wondering what happened, Evelyn," her mother said and began to recall of what happened. "I stopped by the library to pick you up, but you weren't there. Only your backpack and the sketch you sketched about your dream was on the ground, so I started to panic. At first, I thought you was hiding but after calling you I realized you weren't playing with me. I drove around the city looking for you and I found you on the road. I met your father later on, and then I bought you to the hospital. Luckily, your injuries weren't very severe, but you still needed to be admitted to the hospital for a week or two, depending on how fast you get better, of course. You just have a twisted ankle and your right leg bone is, well....a little broken. Also, you have a bruise on your left arm as well."

Evelyn frantically tried moving her right leg, and boy, did it hurt. She groaned in pain as her mother called the nurse.

A few minutes later, the doctor and a nurse rushed in and examined Evelyn. The doctor turned to Mrs. Charming and asked, "When did she wake up?"

"She woke up ten minutes earlier and I told her what happened," Mrs. Charming replied. The doctor turned to Evelyn and gently rubbed her right leg. "Does it hurt?"

"Yes! It hurts very much!" Evelyn yelled and the doctor quickly stop rubbing her leg. The doctor applied some ointment on her leg and bandaged it carefully.

"May I see your bruise on your left arm?" the doctor asked. Evelyn nodded and showed him her bruise. "Okay...." the doctor took some notes and rubbed ointment on her bruise as well.

Finally, the doctor checked her twisted ankle and took more notes. After a full body check-up he reported to Mrs and Mr Charming.

"Your daughter will be discarded from the hospital after a week. Her bruise is turning into a scar and her twisted ankle will be better soon. I don't know about her leg bone yet, but I'll send her into the X-ray room tomorrow for a X-ray check-up. As for her body, everything is functioning perfectly."

"Thank you, doctor," Mr. Charming said and Mrs. Charming gave a twenty-dollar tip to the doctor and nurse each.

After the doctor and the nurse left, Mrs. Charming took a small bottle of pills from a oak-brown stool tucked into the conner of the room and poured some water into a glass.

After that, she dropped the pill inside and the pill turned into pink liquid once it touched the water. "WHOA," Elton said. "That is so cool. How did it turn into liquid?"

"Well, that is kind of cool," Ethan said, examining the glass in his mother's hand. "You don't see somethin' like that every day."

Evelyn giggled at her curious brothers from the hospital bed she was lying on. "It's because of science. Science stuff," she answered her brother's question. "Things that Ethan didn't listen to and you are too small to learn this." she wagged her finger at the boys and smirked at Ethan.

"Hey! That's offensive! I did listen!" her older brother said. "I was the best in class! I earned the 'Best student' trophy last year!"

"'Best student trophy?' We don't have those in school....Oh! Are you talking about the trophy everyone got last year? But father and mother pretended you won to encourage you to be a better student?" Evelyn giggled.

Ethan was shocked and stared angrily at his blushing and apologetic-face parents. "FINE! I admit I was never good at studying....that's why I want to be a professional gamer!"

"Okay, enough talking," their mother interrupted. She passed the glass of pink water to Evelyn. "Drink this,"

Evelyn nodded and took the glass from her mother. The liquid smelled disgusting and Evelyn plucked her nose and quickly drank the liquid.

She passed the empty glass back to her mother and her Mrs. Charming placed the glass on the tiny table. "Okay, everyone, get back to sleeping."

As soon as Mrs. Charming said that, everyone returned to their napping place and fell asleep. Evelyn toss and turned while sleeping because she had the weird dream again....
