The next day I wake up it all seems like it was just a dream. The sun is shining very brightly in my eyes when I roll over so I crawl my way out of my bed to shut the blinds before sitting back down on the edge of the bed. Last night seems like a big blur to me. Kissing Josh was everything I had ever thought it would be, except it was not. His touch was soft and sweet but it is still weird because he is my friend. He wants to give this whole couple thing a shot so why should we not? He was very nice and understanding when I told him I had to leave suddenly. I ran into Lauren on my way down the stairs and out the door last night. I told her I was tired from all the partying and decided to go home so I could think of what had actually happened between Josh and I.
I have always ignored everyone's comments on how Josh and I should be together ever since I can remember. Last night was amazing or so I thought until later when I arrived home. When I got home; the kiss, the dancing, partying, everything did not seem all that great anymore. While I am thinking about it right now, the kiss does not seem as amazing as I thought it was at first. There was not a spark when his lips touched mine, so maybe we should not be more than friends like I thought in the first place. My phone starts ringing to interrupt my thinking process. I frown when I look at the caller id. My phone shines a random ten digit number that I have never seen before. Hmmm, I wonder who it is. I hit the accept button before putting my phone to my ear.
"Hello? This is Audrey, who is this?"
"Hey Audrey, it is Josh."
"Hey Josh, how did you get my number?"
"Lauren gave it to me, I hope you do not mind."
"No, it is fine. What did you want to talk about or need?"
"I was wondering if you want to hangout or do something today; that is if you are not busy."
'Hmmmm, I happen to not be busy today but I am not sure if I want to spend the day with Josh after what happened last night. I am still confused about everything but I guess it could not hurt to just hangout as friends, could it?'
"Well, I am not busy so I guess I am free for today."
"That is great, I will see you in a little bit."
Before I can ask where I am supposed to meet him, he hangs up on me. After kissing him last night, it dawns on me that I have no idea how I am supposed to act in front of him today. Are we still friends or more after what happened last night? I get up off my bed to start getting dressed. I finally decide after what seems like forever, that it is probably better to dress comfortably in jeans and a t-shirt rather than dressing up. A honking noise has me running over and looking out the window to see Josh standing by his car. I grab my jacket on the way down the stairs and scurry out the door to meet him.
"Hey, what are we going to do," I ask
"Well, I figured we could go see a movie if that is okay with you," he says helping me into his car.
He walks around to the drivers side, gets in and starts the car to drive off away from my house. The whole ride there, we sit in silence.
'I have no idea what I am supposed to say after last night. Maybe he does not know what to say either. Or maybe he did not feel anything as well when we kissed and that is why he is not saying anything. If that is the case then why ask me to hangout today? Are we just hanging out as friends then?'
When we get to the movies, he opens my door and helps me get out of his car. I follow him as he walks up to the ticket window and orders two tickets for some action movie that just came out. I hold back a sigh as we walk inside to go watch the movie. He chooses to sit in the middle of the back row in the theatre. I sit down next to him on the right side before the movie starts within a couple minutes. The movie is mainly about cars doing dangerous stunts and catching on fire. Normally, I would not watch an action movie because I do not understand them at all but I guess I do not really have a choice today. How can boys be into this kind of stuff when I find it so boring? When it is finally over, he takes me home without saying a word the whole way back. To be honest, I am very pleased to be back home and quite surprised he is walking me all the way to my front door.
"So I guess I will see you at school," he says walking back to his car.
Without waiting for an answer, he gets into his car and drives off. I make my way into the house to walk up to my room and lie back down on my bed, thankful that the date with Josh is over. I mean if you can even call it a date. Lying on the bed, I think about how weird Josh was acting today. It is like he did not want to be there with me at all. If that is true, then why ask me to hangout in the first place? I thought he would be happy to see me after the kiss that happened between us last night, but he acted like it never even happened. Maybe he really did not feel anything from that kiss at the party. I guess we will just be friends from here on out, which is definitely fine by me. Instead of wasting my time thinking about how lame the date was, I decide to just relax and get some sleep.
