The door of the chamber was shut, and the windows were all covered with heavy velvet curtains. I took out my special candle and put it on the silver paper candlestick. Then I recited the incantation and a bright flame leaped in my hand. I lit the eight candles one by one, then placed them around the coffee table, let them occupy the east, south, west, north, northeast, southeast, southwest, northwest, eight directions.
Auntie Dalena sat silently in the chair beside me. She looked very worried with her head down. Lowa was still sitting on the couch, watching me with interest. Amy wanted to help but was scared. Lowa and I laughed at her, and after I'd assured her that I could do it alone, she quickly retreated to the couch and looked around timidly and curiously.
