Sophia stared blankly at the photograph on her bedside table.
"It's still here" she muttered to herself caressing it.
"I can't believe dad is using my marriage to Ryan Smith as an excuse to sign a deal with The Aredian Smith Defense." She said
"He never truly knew me or the things I love, I don't know how best to handle this, and I don't want to betray you a second time" she spoke to the photograph as she plucked it out of the frame.
"I love you D.J, only you" she said pressing her lips against the photograph. She was still lost in her own thoughts when a gentle tap on her door jerked her back to reality.
"Excuse me ma'am, these clothes have been picked out for your date tomorrow." The maidservant spoke as soon as she walked in.
"Leave it there" Sophia replied with disgust. The maid turned to leave, but then, she spoke up.
"Tell the chauffeur to prepare a car, I will be going out for a bit." She said
"Yes ma'am" the maid servant replied without any objections.
Sophia drove off without a chauffeur or her personal assistant, Mr Coleman. She drove for hours and finally got to the suburbs and pulled over before a bar.
"I can do this" she tried to console herself, but as she made for the door, she stepped back again.
"Maybe just a glimpse...yes...a glimpse should be okay" she muttered to herself, and brazenly, she walked into the noisy environment of the bar. As she struggled to find herself a seat, her eyes scanned the faces of the bartenders over the counter.
"What would you like ma'am?" One of the bartenders asked with a broad smile across his face.
"A martini" Sophia replied
"Woah! That's a good one!" He said reaching out to a bottle.
"Light or heavy ma'am?" He asked, but Sophia wasn't paying attention. Her eyes was glued to another bartender who had just walked in from one of the VIP rooms with a tray on which sat half a dozen of empty champagne flutes.
"Do you like that bartender?" The guy asked snapping his fingers to get Sophia's attention.
"Umm...I ...n ...no" she muttered a bit flustered, but he smiled still shaking the bottle he held in his hand
"Light please " Sophia said looking away in shyness, but soon diverted her gaze at the bartender again.
"A refill please" the bartender spoke, placing the tray before another bartender behind the counter. Sophia stared on with misty eyes. She wasn't paying attention to her surrounding, and had her eyes glued to this bartender. A tear finally escaped her eyes, but just then, someone hit her from behind and she fell head first to her glass of martini, staining her shirt. The wasted guy struggled to stand erect, and reaching out to Sophia, he grabbed her hand.
"I... I'm s..so...ssorryy" he said, but Sophia broke free from his grip, grabbed her purse and made for the door. The bartender's attention was finally drawn to her, but she hurried out of the door without looking back.
"Take care of this mess, and go apologize to that lady" the bartender said to another bartender, picked up the tray of drinks and disappeared into one of the VIP rooms.
"This is unbelievable" Sophia muttered to herself as she searched for her keys in her pocket.
"Are you alright ma'am?" One of the bartenders asked running up to Sophia.
"I'm really sorry about..."
"It's fine" Sophia interrupted him. She got into her car and zoomed off almost immediately. She couldn't stop tearing as she drove.
"I'm sorry D.J" she kept saying to herself.
Back at the bar, Kyla sat still in shock.
"What's wrong Kyla? Been a while you gulped something this tough?" Came Cassie, Kyla's highschool classmate.
"I can't believe Sophia Walker was here" Kyla spoke absentmindedly.
"And who exactly was that bartender she was staring at?" She spoke again but to no one in particular.
"I need to find out what's going on here..."
"Kyla!!" Cassie exclaimed trying to get Kyla's attention
"What's wrong? You came out here to relax, but you're still muddled up in your thoughts." She said
"Nothing's wrong Cassie, I'm absolutely fine" Kyla replied still staring into space.
"She's hiding something, I need to find out that little secret of hers." Kyla thought to herself.
