Chapter 24 - Marry Hailey

The next morning, after Hailey left for work, Grandma Mary called Leonard to come over. "Hello Leonardo, come over, please it's urgent, "Grandma Mary said. "Okay Grandma, I will be with you soon," Leonardo replied.

Grandma Mary sat in her cosy living room, a cup of tea in hand, waiting for Leonardo to arrive. She had invited him over to talk to him about marrying Hailey. She knew it was a delicate subject, but she felt that it was important.

As she heard the knock on the door, she set down her tea and hurried to answer it. Leonardo stood on the doorstep, a small smile on his face.

"Hello, Grandma," he said, stepping inside.

"Hello, dear," Grandma Mary said, closing the door behind him. "Can I get you something to drink?"

"No, thank you," Leonardo said, glancing around the room. "What did you want to talk to me about?"

Grandma Mary took a deep breath, steeling herself for the conversation ahead. "Leonardo, I want you to marry Hailey"

What!!! Do you want me to marry that cleaner girl? Leonardo asked. "Yes, that girl saved my life by risking hers, If it wasn't for her quick thinking, I would have been crushed by that car." Grandma Mary explained.

Leonardo sighed, stopping in front of the window and gazing out at the busy street below. "I'm grateful to Hailey too, Grandma. But marriage is a big commitment. I can't just do it because I feel obligated." Grandma Mary leaned forward, her voice becoming softer. "I know, dear. But think about it. Hailey is a wonderful girl. She's kind and smart, and she has a heart of gold.

Leonardo sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Grandma, I just don't know if I'm ready for that kind of commitment. I have a lot going on in my life right now." "Of course, dear," Grandma Mary said, patting his hand. "But just promise me you'll think about it, okay? Hailey deserves to be happy. And I can't think of anyone better to make her happy than you."

"But Grandma, I don't love her and I don't even know her, I only saw her once in my office. I can't get married to someone I don't feel anything for", Leonardo explained.

"I know, dear," Grandma Mary said, placing a comforting hand on his arm. "But sometimes love isn't just about a feeling. It's about a commitment. A willingness to work through the hard times and stick by each other no matter what. And I know that you and Hailey will have that kind of love."

Leonardo smiled, the tension in the room easing, "I love you Grandma and if marrying Hailey would make you happy then, "I'll think about it, I promise Grandma."

Grandma Mary settled back in her chair, a look of contentment on her face. She knew Leonardo would make the right decision. After all, he was a good boy, just like his father before him. And Hailey, well, she was a true angel.

"Alright, Grandma, I need to go back to the office", Leonardo said. "Okay, my love, take care of yourself, and please keep in mind the promise you made," Grandma Mary said. Leonardo kissed his grandmother and then left for his office. On his way to work he called a private investigator. "Hello, I want every detail about Hailey Xander on my desk tomorrow morning".
