"Knock!!! Knock. "Hailey, wake up and get ready, your father's lawyer would soon be here", her aunt said while knocking on Hailey's bedroom door. "Am awake Aunty and I will be with you in five minutes", Hailey said as she went to the bathroom to take her bath, after bathing she got dressed and went downstairs.
"Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling today?" Her aunt asked. "I'm okay, Aunty", Hailey replied. "Alright, let's get situated, the lawyer is almost here," Her aunty suggested. As they sat down in the sitting room, the lawyer knocked on the door, "Grace go and get the door" her aunt said, a few seconds later, the lawyer came in and greeted Good day. Hailey and her aunt responded to his greeting.
He then sat down and said Hailey, I'm deeply sorry for your loss, please accept my condolences. Hailey nodded, okay then let's get down to business, the lawyer said, The room was quiet except for the sound of the lawyer shuffling papers. Hailey sat nervously in a chair, her heart pounding in her chest. This was it – the moment she had been dreading since her father's passing. The reading of his will.
The lawyer cleared his throat and began to speak. "As the executor of Mr Xander's estate, I have been entrusted with the task of distributing his assets according to his wishes as stated in his will."
Hailey held her breath as the lawyer continued. "To our beloved daughter Hailey, we leave all our assets, including our house, our cars, and our savings account. It is our wish that she use these resources to pursue her dreams and live a fulfilling life."
Hailey's eyes widened in shock. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. All the Xander's assets – everything they had worked so hard for – was now hers.
The lawyer looked up at her, a small smile on his face. "I know this must be a lot to take in, Miss Xander. But your parents wanted nothing more than for you to be taken care of. They loved you very much."
Tears sprang to Hailey's eyes as she nodded her head, unable to speak. She couldn't believe that her parents had thought so much of her, even in their final moments.
As the lawyer packed up his papers and prepared to leave, Hailey stood up and walked over to him. "Thank you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you for everything."
The lawyer patted her on the shoulder. "It was my pleasure, Miss Xander. Your parents were good people, and they would be proud of you."
Hailey nodded, her mind whirling with thoughts of what she could do with her newfound wealth. She knew that she would miss her parents every day, but she also knew that she had been given a second chance to make something of herself. And she was determined to make her parents proud.
She went over to where her aunty was sitting and hugged her." Sweetheart, you need to be strong, your parents entrusted everything to you, so you need to keep up the family legacy", her aunty said while patting her back. I promise to make you and my parents proud, Hailey said." Alright, sweetheart, and remember no more crying", her aunty said. Hailey smiled and nodded.
