Chapter 91 - Shooting Star Amidst the Tempest

Things were NOT going fine. Gu Yuena was being worked to the bone playing two vastly different 'characters' while also dealing with the swarm of evil soul masters chasing after her boyfriend. It made her want to ditch her duty but the image of Wulin having to take over while injured and exhausted got rid of that thought in a heartbeat.

Truthfully speaking, she wasn't sure how Wulin was doing. From their bloodline connection she could tell he was at least alive and conscious but that wasn't much to work off. Her spiritual sense didn't have nearly as much range as usual because of the ten colored thunder so it was all she had but it was far from reassuring.

That thunder had shook the entire city, a loud enough explosion erupted from it to shatter all the glass in the beautiful city, and the heat had vaporized more than one section of the city. She couldn't even get too close with her spiritual sense but it was clear that it was a disaster.

"I found her!" An eerie voice echoed through the alleyway she had momentarily hid in, her eyes instantly flicking to the source. She hadn't managed to sense them coming not because she couldn't but rather because she was growing tired. If this continued…

"Ugh." Rolling her eyes in annoyance she swiped her hand slowly, a blade of wind bisecting the fool who decided to come after her. It was easy to deal with him but the issue came from the numerous people who would rally at his call.

Their cultivation was all low, ranging somewhere between ranks 20 and 40, but they weren't there to be a helpful fighting force. They were pawns to weaken the strong while slaughtering the weak. And, unfortunately, that was exactly what was happening to her.

She couldn't tell exactly from where anymore but somebody was following her and pushing all these peons after her. She wasn't sure if her stalker was aware of her playing the part of Wulin as well but it was best to assume they did.

Sighing in annoyance she closed her eyes for a moment as a gentle breeze ran through the air, a low buzz echoing through the area. With delicate control of the wind element she was able to search for anybody using echolocation so she was very confident. There was nobody around, she could act freely.

She had many ways to deal with the evil soul masters in her area but they all centered around the idea that she wasn't on the brink of exhaustion. Luckily, she had a solution that would also make her job even easier.

The golden necklace adorning her neck was filled with the blood essence of her other half, the tyrannical power practically begging to be used. Wulin couldn't utilize it beyond its elemental control as it would make the punishment even worse in the end but she was a different case.

Temporarily merging the power of the Golden Dragon King with her own she felt the two merge, the power of the Dragon God flowing through her body for a single exhilarating instant. The amount of power flowing through her veins was almost addictive.

Immediately her physical and mental exhaustion washed away, the efficiency of the two blood essences enhanced dramatically upon their merging. But, even with her exhaustion gone there was plenty of power left to spare.

Enhancing her mind to their limits she could feel her spiritual sea growing, the location of all nearby life sources entering her mind in the blink of an eye. Further sorting them by the dark element she quickly had the locations of all evil soul masters in a large area in her mind.

Collecting the lingering static in the skies a faintly colored cloud formed in the sky, lightning arcing endlessly within its depths. It was powerful as expected of the dregs of universal judgment and it took less energy than one would assume but Gu Yuena was struggling to manage it regardless.

The issue wasn't so much energy requirements though it was a concern as well. The dense power of the Dragon God made it just barely possible but the true issue was controlling it. The power of lightning was already wild and difficult to control but when it was combined with the power of the universal order? It was difficult even for her.

But, when the wild power dropped from the skies like a flash of light the immense effort it took to control it all became worth it. Though incomparable to the bolt that struck her other half each contained more than enough power to kill a rank 60.

Combined with her near perfect accuracy born from her spiritual tracking all that remained of the evil soul masters in her range was ashes. It had only taken the blink of an eye before the area she controlled was destroyed.

'That wasn't enough.' She could feel it, that disturbing gaze lingering on her body. Whoever it was that was watching her was still there. Worse still, they weren't even trying to hide their gaze yet it was untraceable nonetheless.

But, it abruptly disappeared. There was no traceable reason nor was there a blinding flash of a fancy attack. It was swift, silent, and most importantly abrupt. It was the ideal assassination, one that Gu Yuena couldn't even begin to track down. Should that attacker be sent after her…

'So that's Sagittarius.' She thought to herself, awe in her mind even as she thought long and hard about how exactly she would go about dealing with such a foe. Sagittarius, a member of the illustrious Zodiacs, a group that served Grace Mirchea Luslec alone. They were an elite force among FUG and she could certainly see why.

Sagittarius was an archer who had been placed atop the hotel Wulin likely resided in now, the tallest building in the city, and could strike anyone no matter where they were or the angle. Such was the prowess of the owner of the Empyrean Longbow.

He was a dangerous fighter, an opponent that could kill you before you could blink while sitting entire cities away. It was for that reason the Spirit Pagoda desired him and why he had quickly become one of Wulin's most valuable subordinates. Assassination was no different than breathing to such a man after all. He was extremely skilled and what he did but…

'I've caught you.' In that brief instant, she had managed to lock onto his location. The scent of Wulin hung thickly around him so it was nothing more than a chore for her to find it and differentiate it from the rest of Wulin's subordinates. Now, Gu Yuena would never be caught off guard by him.

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

It feels like it's been ages since I introduced the Zodiacs, but I only now managed to throw them into the story. Sometimes, having a pace as slow as this is quite the issue. I'd have it no other way of course but I can whine once or twice, right?

If you want more chapters, head to patre*on.com/TrapOverlord for up to 25 extra chapters. It isn't required but it'd be much appreciated.
