Back at base, Captain Takahashi and Kato secured the raider in a small holding cell. They had cleared out a section of the laboratory and converted it into a makeshift prison, complete with reinforced walls and a heavy door.
The raider glared at them from his cell, his hands cuffed behind his back. Captain Takahashi sat across from him, a stern expression on her face.
"We're going to ask you some questions," she said. "And you're going to answer them truthfully. Understand?"
The raider sneered. "What if I don't feel like cooperating?"
"Then we'll make you cooperate," Kato said, cracking his knuckles.
The raider didn't look intimidated. "You think you can scare me? I've been through worse than this."
Captain Takahashi leaned forward. "We're not trying to scare you," she said. "We're trying to understand why you attacked us, and what you're doing here."
The raider's expression hardened. "I don't owe you any explanations."
"Maybe not," Captain Takahashi said. "But you're in our custody now, and we have ways of making you talk."
Kato stepped forward, a sinister grin on his face. "And we're very good at what we do."
The raider shifted in his seat, a look of fear creeping into his eyes. "What do you want to know?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Captain Takahashi leaned back in her chair, her expression softening slightly. "Why did you attack us?"
The raider sighed. "It's nothing personal," he said. "I was just trying to survive. I thought you might have supplies, or weapons, or something that could help me and my group."
"What group?" Kato demanded.
The raider hesitated. "We call ourselves the Scavengers," he said finally. "We're just trying to stay alive, like everyone else."
Captain Takahashi nodded. "And what are you doing here?"
The raider shrugged. "We heard there might be something valuable in this place. We were hoping to find it and use it to our advantage."
"What did you find?" Kato asked.
The raider shook his head. "Nothing yet. We were still searching when you showed up."
Captain Takahashi stood up, motioning for Kato to follow. "We're done here," she said. "Take him back to his cell."
Kato nodded, grabbing the raider by the arm and leading him out of the room. Captain Takahashi remained behind, lost in thought.
She knew that the raider was only telling them part of the truth. There was something else going on here, something he wasn't telling them.
But for now, they had to focus on their mission. They couldn't let anything distract them from their goal, no matter how tempting it might be.
