The sudden sound woke Kevin up from his drowsy state, "Where am I? Shouldn't I be dead?" Kevin looked around and saw nothing but pitch darkness.
"Do you accept the profession of Underworld Person?" The mechanical female voice rang in his head again. "Profession? Underworld Person?" Kevin saw a new profession on the status panel in front of him in his mind.
Profession: Underworld Person Skills: Death Eye, Death Flow, Spirit Form
Kevin looked down at his nearly translucent body and felt his weakness. Remembering that he was already dead, he chose to accept this profession.
"Special individual gains profession, Underworld Person." Kevin's ghostly body became solid, he clenched his fist and felt a surge of power flow through his body. He no longer felt as weak as before.
Suddenly his vision flashed, and he found himself floating next to the wall of the second floor of the abandoned building. Kevin looked down and saw his lifeless body lying on the ground. He realized that he was in a spiritual state, the effect of the "Spirit Form" skill.
Kevin looked around and saw only bloodstains on the ground. He couldn't find the goblin warrior or Eric.
He went into his own body and his perspective returned to his physical eyes. Although his body was dead, he was able to move with difficulty.
Kevin felt that he had more magical power than before, perhaps because of the awakening of his profession. He controlled his body and raised his right hand,
"Heal," a green light enveloped him, and the grim wound on his chest disappeared, his body recovered its vitality. The stiffness of controlling his own body also disappeared, and he successfully resurrected!
Although healing magic has a strong curative effect and can fully heal serious injuries, missing limbs or organs cannot be magically generated out of thin air. If a person is already dead but their body and organs are intact, using healing magic on them will only result in a fully restored corpse rather than a living person.
However, Kevin, who can exist in a spiritual state, can heal his body and resurrect himself even after death!
Kevin stood up, his iron sword was nowhere to be seen, but the steel pipe that was knocked away earlier was nearby. He picked up the pipe and moved cautiously down the stairs.
As he approached the first floor, he heard heavy breathing. Kevin peeked his head out to look at the first floor.
A goblin warrior stood with its back to the stairs, gasping for breath, and there was a body lying in a pool of blood at its feet. It was Eric! Kevin felt very sad, even though he had used a healing spell on Eric before he died, Eric still couldn't escape and was killed by the goblin warrior on the first floor.
Kevin looked at the goblin warrior again and suddenly noticed something special. What was it? He saw a rectangular box on the goblin warrior's body, with less than half of it colored in red, and two letters "HP" written on the left side of the box. Does this mean the remaining life of the goblin warrior?
Kevin looked closer and found that there was a part of the red color that was empty, about one-sixth long. With the bleeding from the wounds on the goblin warrior's body, this part of the red color was gradually decreasing. Kevin was sure that this was the goblin warrior's life force, as he remembered a skill from the "Underworld Person" profession called "Death Eye", which should have this effect.
What about another skill? Kevin tried to silently chant "Death Flow", and a black aura appeared on his hand and wrapped around the steel pipe. Kevin guessed that the "Death Flow" would only take effect after attacking the enemy.
Kevin lowered his body and began to gather strength. He aimed for a large wound on the right side of the goblin warrior's waist and charged forward. He plunged the steel pipe fiercely into the goblin warrior's body.
Kevin saw its HP drop another notch, and many of the red parts became illusory, about one-third in length. The goblin warrior sensed the ambush from behind and felt intense pain. It roared in anger, turned around, and swung its broadsword down hard. Although Kevin had anticipated its move, the steel pipe was stuck too hard, so he had to dodge with his bare hands.
Kevin rolled on the ground to avoid the goblin warrior's attack. At the same time, he caught a glimpse of the sword in Eric's corpse's hand.
"Sorry, Eric, I couldn't save you. Let your sword help me now." Kevin took Eric's sword and assumed a posture, watching the goblin warrior's movements.
The goblin warrior swung its broadsword angrily. In its rage, it did not notice the steel pipe inserted into its waist.
Kevin became very calm at this critical moment. He did not confront the goblin warrior head-on but dodged its attacks again and again. Blood continued to flow out of the goblin warrior's wound through the steel pipe, and the illusory red parts in its HP were disappearing, becoming empty. But what puzzled Kevin was that the previously solid red parts in its HP were also turning illusory red and disappearing.
He saw that the black aura on the steel pipe had infiltrated the goblin warrior's wound. Kevin suddenly realized that it was the skill "Death Flow" that made the goblin warrior's wound deteriorate and become more severe.
After confirming this, Kevin had no intention of attacking actively. He was solely focused on dodging the attacks of the goblin warrior. The goblin's speed slowed down, and the strength of its sword swings became weaker and weaker. After about five minutes, it could no longer support its body and fell to the ground.
Kevin did not immediately approach when he saw it fall to the ground. Instead, he waited for another two minutes to ensure that it had no strength to stand up and attack. Then he stabbed the goblin warrior's neck with several thrusts until it took its last breath, and he saw its HP disappear completely. Kevin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After resting on the ground for a while and regaining some strength, Kevin stood up. He pushed Eric's body away and found his iron sword pressing against him. Kevin's mood was complicated, but considering the danger and his energy issue on the way back, he decided not to bring Eric's body with him.
To avoid further humiliation of Eric after his death, Kevin moved his body next to a crumbling low wall and then pushed the wall over. This prevented other monsters from eating Eric's body.
Kevin returned to the ruined building where he collected the two short swords of the goblin and Eric's sword. He then took off his torn and unusable outer clothing, wrapped these things up, and held them in his hand. He put his iron sword back into its scabbard on his waist and walked back to his dwelling.
Fortunately, Kevin did not encounter any other monsters on his way back. When he passed the "city wall," the people stationed there saw him return covered in blood and shouted at him, "Hey, kid, didn't expect you to come back alive. Where's the other freckled boy? Where is Eric?"
"Eric is dead. He died under the attack of the goblin warrior, and I was just lucky to escape," Kevin replied.
"Oh, you guys are really unlucky! The one called Eric was even more unlucky to die. You still have some luck to escape from the goblin warrior's attack," the man sighed.
Kevin did not tell him that he killed the goblin warrior, fearing to cause additional trouble. He was curious about his new job and had many questions. In the words of Father Daniel and others, Father Tang was a very powerful warrior, and he might know something.
"It's time to go home," Kevin thought.
