Chapter 16 - Materia Alley

The taxi finally came to a halt on a bustling street known as "Materia Alley." It was a marketplace where people could purchase and trade items like potions, weapons, and even monster corpses.

Deimos couldn't wait to see what kind of bargains he could strike here.

He followed Rose along Materia Alley's bustling streets, taking in the sights and sounds of the vibrant market.

They both entered the monster shop, and he noticed people bargaining with the shopkeepers over various types of monster parts, such as the skins, pelts, teeth, and claws of the monsters.

The counters were adorned with a number of horrific trophies, a tribute to the many brave adventurers who had risked their lives in pursuit of these terrifying beasts.

Rose quickly found the counter and approached the shopkeeper, while Deimos followed her.

"We would like to sell a level 5 Ratmorph corpse."

"Incredible, can I please see the condition of the corpse, ma'am?" the shopkeeper replied.

Deimos' hands moved as he clicked on the system storage and pulled out the monster's corpse, laying it on the counter before the shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper slipped his glasses up his nose and leaned in to inspect the Ratmorph corpse Deimos had placed on the counter.

He poked and probed it, inspecting every detail of the creature's remains. He thoroughly scrutinized every element of the body, which appeared to take an eternity.

"Hmm, the corpse is in good condition, though it has some damage to the skin. I can only offer you 500 quesos for it, no negotiation."

"Deal," Deimos quickly said.

500 quesos just for a corpse? What the fuck is this? I can just kill a monster and sell it to earn money if they are going to provide this much, hihiheheh…"he thought.

"How would you like the money, in cash or coins?"

"In panda coins, please," Rose replied.

"Okay, can you please provide me with your username?"

"It's LittleDeimos69@PandaCoins" Deimos said.

[Ding!]

"Nice,"

"Anything else I can help you with?"

"No, I will visit if I have to do more business with you. Thank you for your help."

He was glad that he had registered an account on their way there as Deimos and Rose left the store. As Rose had previously instructed him, he could now shop for products or materials with coins anywhere in the world.

"Why did he offer so much money for a level 5 corpse?" he asked, trying to satisfy his curiosity about it.

"Basically, the corpse can be used for many different things like making weapons, potions, armor, etc. That's why every monster's corpse is valued so much.

"As their level goes, you can even earn millions and more."

Deimos' eyes were wide open in shock after hearing that.

"By the way, where do you live, Deimos? If you don't mind…

… wanna hang out at my flat?" She asked, with a little blush.

"Sure, no problem."

"Great! By the way, what about your parents? Don't you want to inform your parents?"

"I don't have any parents. I am an orphan," he replied.

"Oh, I am so sorry to hear that,"

"It's cool, what about your parents?"

"They died when I was a kid when this whole apocalypse started."

"I am sorry to hear that; they must be proud of how strong you have become alone," he said with a gentle smile on his face.

A strange emotion bloomed within Rose's chest as she looked at Deimos, causing her cheeks to flush.

She couldn't help but feel drawn to his smile, finding it charming and irresistible. Her heart beat a little faster, and she wondered if he felt the same way about her.

*Buzz*

Her phone suddenly began to vibrate in her pocket. She took it out and looked at the screen with a frown.

The call appeared to have bothered her, so she swiftly disconnected it and switched off her phone.

"Who was it?"

"It's the same guy I told you about before. It was the gravest mistake of my life to give him my phone number,"

"What does he want with you?" he asked.

"He wants to invite me to his party to go and level up. Ignore it; let's call the cab and head home.

"I am a very good cook, and let me treat you to some great pasta tonight," she said while thumping her chest.

"Yes, chef!" Deimos said with a chuckle,

Then let me treat you with some dessert after that, hihihehe" he thought.

Now I am quite confused about which desert Deimos talked about here. The Deimos I know is a psycho killer who only knows how to kill and fuck. I have never seen him cook, not even once. Maybe he is going to attempt something by watching some cooking videos on the internet. Let's continue then…

The taxi screeched to a halt in front of a towering structure that looked like a fortress made of glass and steel.

The building had at least 20 levels and appeared to be extremely expensive.

As Rose paid the fare and left the taxi, Deimos gazed up in awe at the grandeur of the structure.

He followed her into the building, his gaze drawn to the magnificence of the lobby, with its marble floors, lavish couches, and a jewel-encrusted chandelier.

As the lift ascended to the seventh floor, Rose turned to Deimos and apologized, "I'm sorry, but this is the only area I can afford a room in for the time being."

Are you kidding? If she sees my room here, she will walk away at the first moment. What bullshit is this? I can only afford a room here, Is she fucking mocking me." he thought.
