Barely conscious, he saw a figure approaching him in the distance. He didn't react thinking it was probably the bandit coming back to finish the job, but Aldous felt a chill run down his spine as he heard the voice. He tried to turn his head to see who was speaking to him, but his body was too weak to respond.
"Who are you?" Aldous croaked out.
The voice replied, "I am the bringer of death. The one who comes to claim your soul when your time has come."
Aldous paid no mind to the comment. It's probably a bandit he thought.
"Why are you here?" Aldous asked.
"I am here to offer you a chance to live," the Grim Reaper said. "But it will come at a great cost."
Aldous was intrigued. He had nothing left to lose. "What is the cost?" he asked.
"You will live, but when your time comes, you will pay dearly," the Grim Reaper said.
Aldous was hesitant. He didn't know if he could trust this person he could barely see. But he also didn't want to die in this place.
"How do I know you're telling the truth?" Aldous asked.
The Grim Reaper chuckled. "You don't. But what choice do you have? You can die here, alone and forgotten. Or you can take my offer and live. The choice is yours."
Aldous thought for a moment. He didn't want to die, but he also didn't who this person was or why they'd refer to themselves as 'The bringer of death'. But he knew that he couldn't stay in this place any longer.
"Fine," Aldous said. "I accept your offer."
As soon as the words left his lips, Aldous felt a surge of energy coursing through his body. He felt the wounds on his body closing up and his strength returning to him. But he also felt something dark and ominous lurking within him.
It was only then that he realized the true identity of the person who he was speaking with….The Grim Reaper. But it was too late. He had already made the deal.
After the deal, the reaper vanished as quickly as he came, although Aldous's wounds were healed and he wasn't at deaths door. He was still unable to move, he was too weak so for a while Aldous just layed there.
